Thor Update: New clip and SPOILER details revealed!

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios have released the first clip of their first superhero movie out this summer, Thor! It's not too much of a spoiler, but it is a detailed version of the "Taser scene" seen in the second full length trailer released a few months ago. Go check it out in the embedded clip below:

Now for the SPOILER details... Do not read beyond this point of you don't want to know. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

Apparently, a cameo in the movie has been confirmed in the form of another hero making an appearance... and that is none other than Jeremy Renner playing the part of the archer avenger himself, Hawkeye! It's a quick scene described via Slash Film, so if you wanna know more, check out the details there!

Green Lantern Update: Geoffrey Rush voices Tomar-Re!

After delivering amazing roles in flicks like the award-winning movie The King Speech and The Pirates of the Caribbean series, legendary actor Geoffrey Rush can now add superhero to his list of credentials, as websites Bleeding Cool and Hero Complex now report that he is slated to voice the role of Tomar-Re, one of the more distinguished and well known aliens that make up the infamous space police force known as the Green Lantern Corps, who are set to appear alongside Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan in June's epic superhero sci-fi flick - Green Lantern!

The news comes as a fresh and pleasant surprise, since Geoffrey Rush's performance in The King's Speech as mentor/ teacher/ speech therapist Bertie was one of the most dynamic roles I've ever witnessed in the history of cinema, not to mention his performances as the swashbuckling and calculating rival of Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, Barbossa! He'll fit right and well voicing Tomar-Re, the signature "Chicken Fish" looking Lantern who serves as one of the many mentors and allies Hal Jordan encounters in his travels as a Green Lantern in the movie! Rumors also have it that a second trailer is due with screenings of Thor, and that Michael Clark Duncan may voice the great GL drill instructor Kilowog (another perfect fit if it's true!), but that news hasn't been confirmed just yet. For now, we can be assured of another great performance with Geoffrey Rush on board. For more info and confirmation on his role as Tomar-Re, visit the source posts over at Bleeding Cool and Hero Complex!

The Confined does awesome Silent Hill goodness!

After navigating through my usual web searches, I found this awesome little Silent Hill tribute made by fans of the dreaded survival horror franchise created by Konami! Called "The Confined". With the terrifying creatures created by Nathan A. Quattrini and featured in Kotaku, the three minute clip is something truly worth beholding for fans of the cursed and haunted town that's plagued 7 games and a live action film so far, with an 8th installment and second flick already in the works to scare more people out of their wits with their own worst fears manifesting themselves into dark caricatures that'll eat them alive! Check this 3 minute clip of this wonderful fan film below, directed by Leo Kei Angelos (who also did a fan film for Dragon Age), with the full thing slated for a release this fall!

Captain America Update: Joe Johnston talks more about his inspiration, and new photos surface!

Posted in the LA Times' Hero Complex page, Captain America: The First Avenger director Joe Johnston talked more about his inspirations behind making the film. Having had experience working in the seminal Steven Spielberg/ George Lucas adventure film "Raiders of the Lost Ark" as visual effects art director and directing the Disney hero flick The Rocketeer, it's no wonder that Johnston drew inspiration from the first Indiana Jones flick to create the backdrop and World War II setting that Cap's movie is based in. However, he goes on to note that the Marvel movie eventually came into its own as filming took place, and what we eventually see in the trailers and promotional stills is a product that fans hungry for some superhero action will definitely not miss out when the movie opens on July 22 this year.

Speaking about pic stills, movie blog site Slash Film has also posted new ones that show off a couple of "Behind-The-Scenes" filmmaking moments that we've seen in the recent trailer. For more information and details, visit LA Times Hero Complex (for Johnston's interview) and Slash Film (for the pics)!

Superman Reboot Update: Amy Adams is Lois Lane!

Fresh from her appearance in the award winning 2010 boxing flick "The Fighter", it appears that Amy Adams has landed herself another big supporting character role, this time as the love interest of Clark Kent/ Superman, Lois Lane, in Zack Snyder's upcoming 2012 reboot of the Superman film franchise!

According to a post in the LA Times' Hero Complex and Enewsi, director Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. have chosen Adams as their woman to play the top female ace reporter from the Daily Planet, who makes it her mission to follow and write stories based on the Man of Steel's exploits, eventually becoming involved in Superman's life personally and romantically. The news is kinda ironic when you think about it, seeing as Amy Adams worked with Christian Bale in The Fighter, and the English actor plays Batman in the Christopher Nolan Bat-flicks! This is big news indeed, and with names like Henry Cavill as Superman, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, this may be the biggest Superman movie yet! For more info on the story, visit LA Times' Hero Complex page and Enewsi!

The untitled Superman Reboot is set to open on conventional and IMAX theaters on December 2012!

Humor: An Angry Birds Movie Trailer?!

Ever wondered what "Angry Birds" would look like if it made the transition to the big screen? That's exactly what Rooster Teeth did when they made this faux trailer short, turning the hyper addicting slingshot type mobile game into a live action drama that'll definitely put smiles to a lot of peoples faces.A familiar Hollywood name appears in the "credits" too, and it was kinda spoiled on the Kotaku post I saw this clip in. Check the video on the player below, courtesy of the official Rooster Teeth You Tube Channel.

LOL. This was pretty cool to watch, and it makes me wanna play Angry Birds again.XD

13 Assassins looks awesome!

I haven't seen a film by Japanese director Takashi Miike for a long while, and this newest film he has, 13 Assassins, simply left me stunned and speechless after I checked out the trailer via Slash Film! Controversial as they are, if you've seen any of his films like Ichi The Killer and the Dead or Alive series, then you'll know what I'm talking about here. This samurai flick was released last September in Japan, and finally makes its way to the western shores come April 29. It has the makings of another violent and awesome epic that'll certainly pique any action buff's interest, so give it a go and check out the trailer below! For more info, check out the source post over at Slash Film!

The Three Musketeers 3D Trailer debuts!

It's still hard to believe that this classic piece of French literature is once again getting the film treatment, but Paul W.S. Anderson's version of The Three Musketeers will see release in theaters worldwide this fall, and now a trailer has made it's way online courtesy of Enewsi and You Tube. If you're one like me who remembers the early 90's Disney film with Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherlund, Oliver Platt, and Chris O'Donnell, you can forget all the chivalry, swashbuckling comedy, and the Bryan Adams/ Sting/ Rod Stewart song related to that version. This new one is darker, grittier, more serious, and it has names like Milla Jovovich, Juno Temple, and Orlando Bloom in it, all presented in true Paul W.S. Anderson fashion. Check out the trailer below and see what you think of it.

The Dark Knight Rises Update: Juno Temple cast in film

As reported by movie sites like Screen Rant and following Joseph Gordon-Levitt's addition to the cast of The Dark Knight Rises (though no role has been specified yet), Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan have officially signed in another young talent into the film, in the form of English actress Juno Temple! Like JGL, her role hasn't been specified, but rumors have been fueling around in the interwebz that she may land the part of playing a female sidekick to someone. A lot of hands point to Selina Kyle's (Anne Hathaway) partner and one-time Catwoman replacement in the comics, Holly Robinson!

If you can see where this is leading, then you'd know I'm all in favor of that role landing in Ms. Temple's lap. It's realistic and it makes more sense that Holly will be in the film, seeing as she appeared for the first time working as a prostitue alongside Selina in Batman: Year One, and Nolan draws heavy inspiration from that source material as well as other classic Bat-books. So if Juno Temple plays Holly, I'm going to be very interested in seeing how she helps Hathaway's Selina Kyle in the path to becoming the feline rogue/ adversary/ love interest of Christian Bale's Batman/ Bruce Wayne. We'll just have to wait and see for official confirmation, so for additional reading, you can visit the source post over at Screen Rant!

Movie Review: Sucker Punch

It's hard to imagine that I finally got to watch this, but now that the curtain has been drawn and I have seen the premiere, I can officially sum up Warner Bros. latest action flick offering, Sucker Punch, in only a handful of words - Intense. Nauseating. Wild. Fun. Fanservice. That's just a poultry selection of what a chum like me can say after walking out of the film in one piece, and believe me, there's a lot going for this crazy chick action flick that's directed by Zack Snyder, the guy who gave us the Dawn of the Dead remake, 300, and Watchmen. Before I get into my review proper, let me just warn all of those peeps out there prone to seizures - there's TONS of flashy lights and shaky camera work that'll either leave you mesmerized or barfing away, so be on the safe side and heed the warning I give you today.

Movie: Sucker Punch
Starring: Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens, and Jamie Chung
Directed By: Zack Snyder

Sucker Punch is ambitious; Possibly one of the most ambitious films I have ever seen to date in my history of movie watching. There's a ton of references, both sub contextual and intentional, that will make the average viewer giddy or annoyed, depending on their stand towards various pop culture genres like Anime, Comic Book stories, Video Games and Movies. The film clearly is an amalgamation of these three, and it happens to be Zack Snyder's latest offering on the Hollywood plate; An original one at that that takes his style of film making and meshes it with a bizarre storyline that can be perceived as both senseless fun or visual artistry. Set in a 1950's styled era, the movie focuses on a young girl named Baby Doll, who is sent to a mental institution by her cruel and manipulative stepfather. Losing everyone she loved to tragedy, Baby is forced to rely on her imagination, which carries her away from the pain and into a world she can manipulate and move freely in. After befriending some fellow inmates and meeting an old man inside her dream who has shown her a way to get out, Baby and her new friends must channel their minds and act within the boundaries of reality and fantasy in order to set themselves free.

The Dark Knight Rises Update: JGL is NOT Alberto Falcone?

Confusing as it may sound, it seems that the rumor/ news that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Alberto Falcone in The Dark Knight Rises may not hold up some water due to some conflicting reports. On one hand, you got Variety reporting that he is playing the son of Carmine Falcone, and on the other you got Entertainment Weekly debunking that report and saying that JGL will be in the movie, but not as Falcone. As movie blog news site Slash Film points out, both sources are reliable, and the reports could be different information leaking out to confuse different parties about what exactly is the scoop on TDKR, whom director Christopher Nolan and his team keep under a strict veil of secrecy. In any case, what IS confirmed is tha JGL is in the film. It just can't be confirmed at this point what role he'll be officially playing... yet. For more info on the story, visit Slash Film, EW, and Variety.

The Dark Knight Rises will premiere in theaters on July 20, 2012.

A Special Post from Capcom's Street Fighter team to Japan!

The folks over at Capcom-Unity have posted this great looking Street Fighter wallpaper, which was created and inscribed with a special message by the Street Fighter team in Japan, dedicated to the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami that has affected those living in the land of the rising sun. The Dark Knight Rises Update: JGL is Alberto Falcone!

This has been long rumored and speculated about before, but according to a report from Variety and followed up by a post in Newsarama, it can now be officially confirmed that actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt will appear in Christopher Nolan's next bat-flick The Dark Knight Rises; playing the part of Alberto Falcone, son of Carmine Falcone (played by veteran actor Tom Wilkinson and last seen in Batman Begins) and heir of the leader of the Falcone Crime Family. With the news official since last Friday, JGL reunites with Nolan, who directed him in Inception, and his fellow co-star in the film Tom Hardy, who will play Bane in the new Batman movie. I did state in my previous post a month before that this role was tailor-made to fit for JGL, who has the build and look to fit the role of Alberto, who was also known as The Holiday Killer in the pages of Batman: The Long Halloween. Nolan has a knack of drawing inspiration from classic Batman stories and creating script that's just A-list material in his bat-films, not to mention his choice of top class actors that only reassures us fans that we'll be getting a great product come 2012! For more information on the casting news, visit Variety and Newsarama!

Thor Update: Two new international posters debut!

With the impending release of the Thor movie close on the horizon, Marvel and Paramount Pictures saw it fit to release new posters in the international market that not only promote the God of Thunder's story, but also see him look more badass in one of them! As seen in Slash Film, here are the two new international posters. The first sees the head shot of Thor we've become familiar with in the "Red Rage" and "Banner" sheets, but now Chris Hemsworth is accompanied by the other key players seen in the banner poster, with the exception of Loki, who gets his mugshot inserted here for the first time, all above a display of Thor rallying his Asgardian troops from one of the key scenes featured in the first trailer. Judge for yourself after seeing it below.

Truth be told, it's a neat looking poster in itself, but it doesn't compare to the second and most impressive one yet... well, between the two at least!

Second poster looks cool, but I'm sure more are on the way! For more info, visit the source post over at Slash Film!

R.I.P Michael Gough.:(

Sad news hit the entertainment and Bat-fan community, as news from movie sites like Screen Rant and IGN report that famed British actor Michael Gough, well known to movie audiences as the man who played Alfred Pennyworth in the first four Batman movies, passed away at the age of 94. He was one of only two actors to ever reprise their role in all four Batman films (the other being the late and great Pat Hingle, who played Commissioner Gordon), and Gough's passing leaves me saddened, simply because the Alfred I first came to know in most forms of media is now gone. Besides the movies, he also reprised the role in the radio/ tape adaptation of Batman: Knightfall, which I had the opportunity to listen to as a kid. Besides Alfred, Michael Gough was well known for a lot of roles, including many British horror films like Dracula and recurring appearances television shows like Doctor Who and The Avengers. He'll truly be missed, and I'll always be remembered as that faithful and steadfast butler who gave sound advice to his master in times of crisis and moral dilemma, such as this deleted scene in Batman Forever, where Bruce Wayne (played by Val Kilmer) is trying to reconcile his life as a crime fighter and being together with the woman he loves, Dr. Chase Meridian (played by Nicole Kidman).

Rest In Peace, Michael Gough, and thanks for the memories, Good Sir!:(

Humor: Dealing with Bullies... The Street Fighter Way!

Not a few days ago, a video of a kid named Casey Heynes getting bullied and fighting back made its way to the internet and showed just how awesome and brave he was to stand up to his tormentor and give him a taste of his own medicine. Sure enough, that became viral enough to get re-edits and makeovers that turned the lil' guy into a bonafide superstar. Case in point, this particular video shown in You Tube and Kotaku has the makings of something awesome and dear to my fighting game heart. Check it out below and see for yourselves:

Batman: Arkham City Update: Riddler revealed as a top baddie!

Another somewhat big update has arrived for Batman: Arkham City, in the form of the revelation of another "big cheese" who returns from the previous game and is pulling the strings of our dear Caped Crusader, and it's none other than the master of riddles himself, Edward Nygma, aka The Riddler!

Via a post in Kotaku, it seems that Mr. Nygma will not only return to plague Batman with puzzles and riddles which he must solve, but he'll also be manipulating the Dark Knight in a manner similar to the Scarecrow, who by inducing Bats with his fear-toxin transported the hero to "nightmare worlds" that gave him more than just a simple trap to overcome. If the reports about the demo prove to be true, then the Riddler may just provide a greater challenge to Batman that's in the level of Dr. Jonathan Crane's alter ego. Given how interesting and irritating Mr. Nygma and his puzzles were in Batman: Arkham Asylum, I'll brace myself for the worst The Riddler has to offer in Arkham City. We'll just have to wait and see how his role gets expanded once the game comes out this October! For more info and additional reading on this, visit the source post at Kotaku!

A moment of silence for Japan this day...

I wasn't in the mood to write anything after learning of the devastating quake and tsunami that hit Japan earlier, and all I can do at this moment is offer my prayers and best wishes for the victims affected by this tragedy. The story continues to break out all over the news channels such as Yahoo and CNN as of this posting. If there was any time to be aware and concerned for others, now is the moment to do so. All we can do now is hope for the best...

Awesome Fanvid gets Eye of the Tiger to Street Fighter!

This video I caught off Kotaku shows how diverse and beautiful the fighting game circuit can be... and how it'll take a man places as he builds himself up and primes himself for the nasty fight ahead. In this fan video by Geek, this guy in a track suit wanders the streets of Japan to muster up the courage and determination to go over to Shibuya Kaikan Monaco, one of definite arcade's in the world, to prove himself in Street Fighter IV. It's a pretty creative project if you ask me, and the theme they used, a remixed version of Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger", is just awesome to hear. Check it out in the embedded player below.

Man, I do love fighting games. Anything can happen. ANYTHING.

First look at Nickelodeon's new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

The heroes in a half shell are getting another makeover and series... courtesy of the folks at Nickelodeon! Via posts from Slash Film and Topless Robot, we get our first sneak peek image at the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, whose new animated series debuts sometime in 2012!

Yup, from the image alone, it's another CG animated series... but it's looking promising indeed! I grew up loving the 80's Fred Wolf produced series and the video games by Konami, so you can see my enthusiasm for another show that brings the Cowabunga back into action! In fact, the turtles' personalities look more distinguishable from the pic alone, so it's exciting to see how this series will look once a trailer hits the scene! Silent Hill: Revelation 3D Update: First official movie image and details released!

It appears that shooting has gone underway for the next Silent Hill movie, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, and now movie news site Collider has the big scoop and first official image up from the movie, featuring Adelaide Clemens as Heather Mason, the protagonist and star of the Konami survival horror videogame Silent Hill 3, which Revelations is based upon. Kit Harington is also slated to star, but no role has been announced for the Game of Thornes actor yet. Shooting has begun officially March 7 and is currently taking place in Toronto, with Michael J. Bassett directing and writing the film, as well as shooting the entire thing in 3D.

Personally, I was a big fan and supporter of the way the first Silent Hill movie turned out despite its flaws. The movie got the creepiness and vibe from the games right, but it didn't really pull off the full effect of creepiness thanks to the needless addition of the townsfolk that resulted in a lackluster climax and ending. Regardless of all that, Christoph Gans and Roger Avery did an ok job in establishing the proper tone in accordance with the atmosphere seen in the games, and I'm hoping this sequel under the direction of Bassett retains this and does more to accomplish what fans of the franchise and videogames in general are hoping for: a decent and successful videogame movie adaptation. I'm not holding my breath here, but looking at the picture above and comparing it to the Heather Mason I remember from the games, there's a bit of optimism sparking inside of me. We'll just have to wait and see when more details flesh out. For now, read up more info on the movie's plot and details at the source post in Collider.

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D will be released in a date TBA.

Iron Man 3 Update: Shane Black describes film as a "Tom Clancy" styled thriller

Since Jon Favreau's departure from the director's chair of the Iron Man film franchise, director Shane Black was chosen by Marvel to step in and take over the job for the next sequel Iron Man 3, with more expectations rising from fans as to how the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director would deliver the next film starring the Armored Avenger. At the recent Omaha Film Festival, Black confirmed that not only will he be helming the film, but he'll also be penning the script as well, and given his extensive writing resume and contributions to Hollywood hits like the Lethal Weapon franchise, we may be expecting big things for Ol' Shellhead's next adventure in the big screen.

Via a post from Ain't It Cool News, Shane Black will begin work on the screenplay of Iron Man 3 by meeting with the star of the show and Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr. Having previously worked and directing the actor in his first and only directorial feature to date, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, it's a sure bet Black and Downey have chemistry, but how it will turn out when it comes to all things Iron Man remains to be seen. The director also states that because of the disappointment the studio had with the direction of Iron Man 2, things are going to be a little different this time around for Iron Man 3. Black describes the film as "Iron Man fighting real world villains in a Tom Clancy-styled thriller". If that's the case, then the third film returns in some way to the humble origins of the first film, where Tony Stark was forced to build a suit of armor to flee captivity from real life terrorists.

In a way, it makes perfect sense to ground Iron Man and have him fight real life villains. Iron Man 2 strayed too much from the sincerity and realism I felt from the first film, especially since the sequel was built as a springboard to slowly introduce The Avengers into Hollywood (which resulted on Jon Favreau leaving in the first place over creative differences with the studio). Having too many heroes will just confuse the direction of the movie altogether, and it's a relief to hear that Shane Black says there will be no other heroes appearing in Iron Man 3 other than Tony Stark, his alter ego, and his supporting cast. There will be references still, but since Iron Man 3 comes out a year after The Avengers hits theaters, things will shift back into single hero stories, and that's truly a good thing to expect. It's too soon to tell how this all plays out, but here's hoping Black, Downey, and the rest of the Iron Man film crew have something good to offer for the third film! Thor Update: A new poster and a new banner debuts!

With two months to go before it shows in theaters, Marvel and Paramount have released two new images for their first superhero flick this year, Thor! Both shown and revealed in IGN as well as featured in Slash Film, first up is a new poster, featuring a mugshot of actor Chris Hemsworth in character and costume, with the entire image draped in a hue of red, and the words "The God Of Thunder" placed right smack in the middle before the logo to remind viewers of who exactly this man is.

If that wasn't enough, Marvel and Paramount have also released a banner featuring mugshots of not only Thor himself, but also of other prominent characters in the movie, namely Odin, Jane Foster, and Heimdall, combined together to form the main "THOR" logo itself. It looks like the movie's building up to be an epic superhero flick, so stay tuned for more updates. For more details on these images, visit the source posts over at IGN and Slash Film!

Shenmue III May Happen!?

Apparently so, as creator Yu Suzuki stated in his panel during this year's Game Developers Conference. This is THE biggest hope I have, especially being a longtime fan of the series and having finished both installments in the Sega Dreamcast. C'mon Sega... Give Suzuki his chance and let him (and us) finish the Shenmue series! More info on the matter via Joystiq!

HADOUKEN! Happy 20 Years, Street Fighter II!

OH.MY.GOD... STREET FIGHTER II IS TWENTY YEARS OLD?!

Yes, apparently it is. It's March 2011, and the game came out on March 1991... and now that Capcom-Unity was nice enough to point that out, I have to post down a tribute to celebrate this classic's birthday!

Ok, let me get my bearings and let that thought sink in. It's been two decades... TWO DECADES since this sucker hit arcades, and it literally changed my perception of video games entirely as soon as I laid my hands on it. I not only want to post just to commemorate 20 strong years of Hadoukens, Shoryukens, and Sonic Booms, but I also want to reminisce about how I came to love the experience and thrill of playing fighting games because of this masterpiece... and how it defined me as a gamer altogether until this very day.
