Transformers 3 Update: Here's a new poster!

After unveiling that new trailer yesterday for the world to see, Paramount Pictures has released a new poster that pretty much sums up what Transformers: Dark of the Moon will be all about. You have a pretty bad-ass and ready for action Optimus Prime in the middle of a devastated Chicago, alongside Shia LaBeouf and Rose Huntington-Whitley as they survey the invading Decepticon spaceships attacking the planet. It's an impressive poster despite the human characters in it, and since I'm a Prime fan, I'm loving the bad-ass look here.

While I was hoping to see more Megatron/ Hugo Weaving moments in the trailer, I can't say I'm not looking forward to seeing this film, which will be Michael Bay's last entry directing the TF Movie line. Hopefully it'll wrap up things neatly... and not present a cluster "twin riddled" confusion like Revenge of the Fallen did in 2009. For more info on the poster, check out the source link via Slash Film!

Transformers: Dark of the Moon is slated for a July 1 release.

Movie Review: Thor

The age of summer blockbuster movies for the year 2011 is finally here, and it starts off neatly with the release of a much anticipated comic book movie that most fans of Marvel Comics have been waiting for - "Thor". Yes, the God of Thunder's live action movie adaptation is finally ready to hit cinemas in the next few days, and I was fortunate enough to get invited to an advanced 3D screening of the movie, which literally blew my socks off my shoes thanks to the ENORMOUS IMAX screen and huge glasses everyone in attendance had to wear as we gazed on Asgard in all its mighty glory. Before getting on with the review proper, I will be considerate enough to point out that SPOILERS will fill the remainder of this post, so turn away now if you want to remain oblivious and a virgin for your own viewing pleasure. Thanks again goes to Solar UIP and SM Cinema for bringing this premiere to us! With that, here's the review!

Movie: Thor

Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Stellan Skarsgård, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo

Directed By: Kenneth Branagh

First and foremost, Thor is not your average superhero film. Unlike Iron Man, he was born a God and raised to become one of the finest warriors that defend the legendary city of Asgard and the Nine Realms, which includes our own planet Earth. Unfortunately, his destiny as a great warrior is tested when an attack on his kingdom provokes him to retaliate, causing great unrest and the proposition of war reigniting with their hated enemies, the Frost Giants. As a result of his carelessness, Thor's King and Father Odin is forced to banish his son to Earth as consequence for his actions and to teach him a lesson in humility. Stranded, the former God of Thunder learns firsthand what it means to be powerless, and as he takes in his new surroundings, he comes to learn the true meaning of humility when he befriends and nurtures a pivotal relationship with a mortal girl scientist named Jane Foster. Meanwhile, Thor's brother Loki discovers a hidden secret about his past, and sets into motion plans that will secure his own future as the new king of Asgard, but will jeopardize all the realms in the process. With both worlds in danger because of his brother's actions, Thor must reclaim his power once more to make things right and redeem himself worthy of being a true hero and warrior.

Avengers Update: Shooting Starts, and Official Press Release and Pic released!

Beginning this week and already spreading like wildfire all over the media and news sites, Paramount Pictures, Marvel Studios, and director/ writer Joss Whedon have commenced pre-production and shooting for next year's mega-superhero team flick - The Avengers! Movie sites like Slash Film, Entertainment Weekly, and SuperHeroHype have already reported this in, and the first official pic from the set of the movie has appeared. Take a look:

Yup, there be goosebumps already after seeing those chairs with familiar names positioned just in front of a S.H.I.E.L.D logo in the background, so we're all waiting for more news to pop up for this much anticipated film! Until that time comes, here's the official press release from Marvel Studios!

"Production has commenced today in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Marvel Studios' highly anticipated movie "Marvel's The Avengers," directed by Joss Whedon ("Serenity") from a screenplay by Whedon. The film will continue principal photography in Cleveland, Ohio and New York City. Robert Downey, Jr. ("Iron Man," "Iron Man 2") returns as the iconic Tony Stark/Iron Man along with Chris Hemsworth ("Thor") as Thor, Chris Evans ("Captain America: The First Avenger") as Captain America, Jeremy Renner ("Thor," "The Hurt Locker") as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo ("The Kids Are Alright") as Hulk, Scarlett Johansson ("Iron Man 2") as Black Widow, Clark Gregg ("Iron Man," "Thor") as Agent Phil Coulson, and Samuel L. Jackson ("Iron Man," "Iron Man 2") as Nick Fury. Set for release in the US on May 4, 2012, "Marvel's The Avengers" is the first feature to be fully owned, marketed and distributed by Disney, which acquired Marvel in 2009.

Continuing the epic big-screen adventures started in "Iron Man," "The Incredible Hulk," "Iron Man 2," "Thor," and "Captain America: The First Avenger," "Marvel's The Avengers" is the super hero team up of a lifetime. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.

Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1963, "Marvel's The Avengers" brings together the mightiest super hero characters as they all assemble together on screen for the first time. The star studded cast of super heroes will be joined by Cobie Smulders ("How I Met Your Mother) as Agent Maria Hill of S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as Tom Hiddleston ("Wallander") and Stellan Skarsgård ("Angels & Demons," "Mamma Mia!") who will both reprise their respective roles as Loki and Professor Erik Selvig from the upcoming Marvel Studios' feature "Thor."

"Marvel's The Avengers" is being produced by Marvel Studios' President, Kevin Feige, and executive produced by Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Louis D'Esposito, Patty Whitcher, and Jon Favreau. Marvel Studios' Jeremy Latcham and Victoria Alonso will co-produce.

The creative production team also includes Oscar nominated director of photography Seamus McGarvey ("Atonement"), production designer James Chinlund ("25th Hour"), Oscar winning costume designer Alexandra Byrne ("Elizabeth: The Golden Age"), Oscar winning visual effects supervisor Janek Sirrs ("Iron Man 2," "The Matrix"), visual effects producer Susan Pickett ("Iron Man," "Iron Man 2"), stunt coordinator R.A. Rondell ("Superman Returns"), and four-time Oscar nominated special effects supervisor Dan Sudick ("Iron Man," "War of the Worlds"). The editors include Oscar nominated Paul Rubell ("Collateral") and Jeffrey Ford ("Crazy Heart").

Marvel Studios most recently produced "Iron Man 2" which was released in theatres on May 7, 2010. The sequel to "Iron Man," starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow as well as Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson and Mickey Rourke, took the number one spot its first weekend with a domestic box office gross of $128.1 million. To date the film has earned over $620 million in worldwide box office receipts.

In the summer of 2008, Marvel produced the summer blockbuster movies, "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk." "Iron Man," in which Robert Downey, Jr. originally dons the super hero's powerful armor alongside co-stars Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges and Gwyneth Paltrow, was released May 2, 2008 and was an immediate box office success. Garnering the number one position for two weeks in a row, the film brought in over $100 million its opening weekend and grossed over $571 million worldwide. On June 13, 2008, Marvel released "The Incredible Hulk" marking its second number one opener of that summer. The spectacular revival of the iconic green goliath grossed over $250 million in worldwide box office receipts.

The Avengers assemble on theaters next year on May 4, 2012! Before that, go see Thor on May 6 and Captain America: The First Avenger on July 22 this year!

The Dark Knight Rises Update:Press release confirms JGL and Marion Cotillard's roles!

After months of speculation, second guesses, and wild assumptions of whether or not Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard were going to appear in Christopher Nolan's next Batman film "The Dark Knight Rises", Warner Bros. has finally released an official press, which was also posted in movie news blog sites like Slash Film, that confirms both Inception stars' appearance in the film, once again working together with Nolan as he starts work on the next saga that chronicles Bruce Wayne's one man war against crime.

However, the press release also debunks longstanding rumors that JGL was going to play Alberto Falcone and Marion Cotillard was Talia Al Ghul. Instead, Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City Beat Cop assigned to special duty under the command of Police Commissioner James Gordon (played by Gary Oldman), while Cotillard plays Miranda Tate, a board member of Wayne Enterprises who is eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne (played by Christian Bale) resume his father's philanthropic activities for Gotham City. Filming for the new sequel is expected to begin next month, so adding these two together with fellow Inception star Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, and the rest of the returning Batman cast, and you've got one heck of a Bat-sequel to look forward to. For more info, read the official press release via the source post at Slash Film.

The Dark Knight Rises will be released on theaters on July 20, 2012!

Edge retires from wrestling...

Adam Copeland, better known as the "Rated-R Superstar" wrestler Edge, has announced his retirement from wrestling on this week's Monday Night Raw due to injury. It's a heartfelt goodbye to arguably one of the most hardworking if not best superstars ever to grace wrestling and the WWE in particular. You can check out the video below of his retirement speech, which isn't a work, right below via You Tube.

Edge Retires

As with everyone who loves wrestling, I cannot stress my shock over the news. I was fortunate to actually see Edge compete live when he and the rest of the WWE toured Manila in 2005, and his performance and dedication to wrestling in general earns him much deserved respect. Here's a toast to you, and thank you Edge!

The Dark Knight Rises Update: Josh Pence cast in the movie

News continues to trickle down for Christopher Nolan's next epic Bat-flick "The Dark Knight Rises", and now a report from The Hollywood Reporter, which was posted in Screen Rant and Slash Film as well, suggests that a relatively new face has joined the cast to play a very familiar role in a flashback that will tie the new film to that of the first, "Batman Begins".

According to the article, Josh Pence from "The Social Network" has been cast as a younger Ra's Al Ghul, the role that legendary actor Liam Neeson played in a surprisingly awesome capacity in the first film by disguising himself as Ducard and misleading Bruce Wayne into thinking Ken Watanabe was Ra's until the final parts of the movie. While the end of Batman Begins suggests that Ra's perished in the climactic battle for the fate of Gotham City, his character will be making a return via flashbacks set some 30 years earlier to what takes place in "The Dark Knight Rises". Many rumors suggest that Inception actress Marion Cotillard may play Talia Al Ghul, the daughter of Ra's, but that hasn't been confirmed yet, nor is the other rumor that Neeson may return to reprise his role as Bat's greatest mentor/ enemy. We'll just have to wait and see how this fans out in the coming months. The movie starts shooting in May, so we'll probably get more news by then. For more on the story, visit the source posts at THR, Slash Film, and Screen Rant.

The Dark Knight Rises appears in theaters July 20, 2012.

Thor Update: A new clip teases a familiar Avenger's cameo...

Appearing just yesterday, Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios have released a new clip for their upcoming superhero flick "Thor", which shows a fight scene where the depowered God of Thunder (played by Chris Hemsworth) takes on a S.H.I.E.L.D agent while making his way to retrieve his hammer Mjolnir in the facility built around his legendary weapon in New Mexico. This may be a bit of a SPOILER, but there is an actual cameo, which was described/ shown in the Wondercon and confirmed to be in the flick, which has a familiar bow-and-arrow wielding Avenger appearing in the movie - Jeremy Renner's role of Hawkeye, and this clip may have just confirmed it in the 24-second mark. Take a look and judge for yourselves in the video below, and for more info, visit iO9!

Comic Book Review: Fear Itself #1

“Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in” – Michael Corleone, The Godfather Part III

There was a time I enjoyed reading Marvel Comics’ numerous event storylines, but since Brian Michael Bendis’ delivered the lukewarm Secret Invasion and Siege sagas, I’ve been hesitant to get back into the fold and even considered the possibility of giving up collecting altogether. For one thing, it’s getting pretty expensive to collect comic books in particular given the soaring prices these days, and unlike DC’s campaign to “Hold down the line at 2.99” an issue, Marvel isn’t showing any signs of letting up. True, they’ve got the marketing power to show for it, and with two of their biggest and arguably most popular characters in the Avengers roster getting movie treatments this year, there’s no surprise why their books aren’t budging price wise. The times are hard enough as it is, and as my interest in the books wanes even further, out comes Fear Itself, Marvel’s newest epic to come out of the woodwork that promises to deliver a high impact superhero story while tackling the numerous issues and concerns plaguing our world as it is today. After picking it up last Wednesday and reading it through, Does it deliver to that promise, or is it just another event chugged down by the House of Ideas to get more people interested in the Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger movies? Read on and find out the answer.

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition comes home!

Finally, after months of waiting and playing new characters and balancing changes in the arcades, the Arcade Edition of one of my favorite fighting games out there finally comes home. Here's the trailer below to prove the point, and an article by Kotaku promoting the news!

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition DLC trailer

Hitting the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions sometime this year, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition is bring Yun, Yang, Oni Akuma, and Evil Ryu to consoles as DLC, with the balancing changes in store for the rest of the characters! New "New" characters would be much appreciated too Capcom, but this is already a treat, so I'm waiting for official news and a release date soon!

Captain America reformats to Captain America and Bucky with issue #620 come July!

Following the announcement that Steve Rogers returns as Captain America and his book will be relaunching with a new #1 come July, the regular series will be getting retitled as a result beginning with issue #620, and shall henceforth be known as "Captain America and Bucky", co-written by Ed Brubaker and Marc Andreyko and illustrated by Chris Samnee. The series will focus on the past, specifically on Steve Rogers and James Barnes adventures together and separately as Cap and Bucky respectively. No word yet on what the fate of Bucky Cap will be in comics, but with Steve making a full return to the mantle come that month, it's safe to assume that it won't be a pretty fate for the former Winter Soldier. Resident Evil: 15 Years Of T-Virus Slaying...

RESIDENT EVIL. It's hard to imagine that one of the franchises I've held so dear to my gaming heart has come this far, and this article posted in Kotaku and the video embedded below narrated by series baddy Albert Wesker reminded me how much I've missed it... with a new wave of Survival Horror goodness just in the tethers of the next wave of video game goodness to hit us in the coming months ahead.

It's been 15 years since Bio Hazard, more commonly known as "Resident Evil" stateside, made an impression on the gaming community, and I was one of the few to be humbled by my experience with Capcom's foray into the world of Survival Horror. Inspired by the games "Alone In The Dark" and "Sweet Home", the game was created by Shinji Mikami, who worked on the latter NES game and was originally commissioned by Capcom to remake it, only to venture out and develop a product that would not only prove sensational to gamers worldwide, but as a template to the market that would ultimately open doors for the world of Survival Horror in general.

Steve Rogers returns as Captain America this July!

With the new movie coming out this July 22, it was only a matter of time until this happened (again)!

Announced by Marvel Comics and reported by the likes of Newsarama and The New York Daily News, Steve Rogers will once again don the stars and stripes uniform and take up the shield, as he once again becomes Captain America in the new Captain America #1 comic coming out this July, taking the reigns away from his partner Bucky Barnes, who is the current Cap at this point of time. Longtime scribe of the series Ed Brubaker will still retain his position as the writer of the new relaunched title, with Civil War illustrator Steve McNiven joining him for art duties! That's right, Cap's getting a reboot and going back to #1 on the serial lists, just in time for the movie and for new readers to catch up on.

The news comes as both amusing and disappointing to hear about. It's great to have Steve Rogers back in the uniform and all, but I've taken to and respected Bucky Barnes run as Cap for the duration of Brubaker's run on the title. Ever since he "killed off" Rogers in the aftermath of Civil War and placed his onetime WWII partner on the costume, he's done great things with the character and did wonders showing that he certainly can wield the shield if push comes to shove. On the other hand, nothing will replace Steve Rogers - He's the one true Cap and there's no denying that the role was tailor made for him since he became the one and only Super Soldier to exist. It was fun seeing the role passed and poked around, but ever since Steve returned (and in a rushed and underdeveloped "Captain America: Reborn" storyline I might add), it already foreshadowed the inevitable happening - that he's going to be Captain America again sooner or later. We saw two Caps fighting together during the events of Siege, but Rogers willingly dropped the responsibility to Bucky so he could give his friend a new sense of purpose and direction, while taking up the mantle as the new "Top Cop/ Nick Fury" of the Marvel Universe. So much has come to pass in the Captain America stories since ED Brubaker took over, and I've stuck around the title since the writer made the jump to it way back in November 2004. It's fitting that he gets to relaunch it again in time for the new flick... but will I stick around and still collect it? Only time will tell for sure. The prospect of having Steve McNiven as artist only adds fuel to the fire. We'll just have to wait and see come July... which also has Chris Evans taking up the mantle in the big screen adaptation flick - Captain America: The First Avenger!

Green Lantern Update: Wonder-Con Footage online and a new poster revealed!

Warner Bros. has been a little quiet in regards to promoting their newest DC superhero flick coming out this year, Green Lantern, but all that changed when the weekend brought about this year's Wondercon in Las Vegas, which gave the makers and its primary cast a chance to talk about the film and screen some new sneak peek footage that fans in attendance really got excited about! Before we get into details about that report, a new poster also made its debut to coincide with the promotions!

Now this poster looks more intriguing than the initial ones presented before! It's a wonder how Ryan Reynolds could make the film work after initial reactions to the first trailer were mixed, but there's renewed promise that the film may just do well after everything that went down at the Wondercon. Basically, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively were in attendance at the GL Panel and answered a lot of questions concerning the film and its content. For one thing, it's confirmed that a new trailer will be shown in screenings of Thor, so those looking forward to more GL action before the film arrives in June should be excited for this news. Secondly, both stars went on to describe how they prepared for their roles in the movie, as well as inquiries concerning the story and what the future holds for Mr. Reynolds in regards to other superhero flicks *wink wink*. I won't spoil the details, but if you want to know the breakdown of what happened, you can check out the details at Slash Film, or see an uploaded vid of the presscon via YouTube (while it's still up that is). Oh, and there's the abridged version of the footage screened courtesy of Apple, so check it out now before anything else! SPOILER MODE ON HERE!

Update: It's also on You Tube now. Check out the Wondercon Footage!

Thor Update: Two more "Helmet" posters surface!

A lot of Thor posters have come and gone over the past weeks, but none have really shown the character sporting his signature helmet that he always wears in the comics. Well, fans asking for that specific pose and look have finally gotten their wish, as Paramount and Marvel Studios have released two new posters to promote the movie! Featured on each one are Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Tom Hiddleston as Loki, both sporting their chrome dome wears and each looking to the side.

I'll admit, the helmets look nice and all, but I can see the reason why they may appear only on key moments in the film as suggested by the trailers. They're not totally necessary, but it's an extra accessory that'll please fans used to the signature looks of the characters in the comics. Transformers 3 Update: Leonard Nimoy IS Sentinel Prime!

It may be April Fools and this may sound like a joke, but I just got wind of this very awesome piece of Transformers movie news, and I'm inclined to believe that this is the genuine article. Somehow and some way, director Michael Bay has cast another legendary presence to his next Transformers flick hitting this July... and by legend, I mean TRUE LEGEND!

As posted in Slash Film and announced first by Entertainment Weekly's website, it appears that legendary Star Trek actor and Mr. Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy, will be voicing the role of Sentinel Prime, predecessor and mentor figure to Optimus Prime! Besides his iconic status as the Vulcan who served aboard the U.S.S Enterprise (a role he reprised in 2009's Star Trek), Nimoy is a legend in various forms of media and has provided his voice for several shows back in the day, including Transformers!

Leonard Nimoy as Galvatron... BadAss then... and still BadAss now!

Those who follow his credentials well will know that he provided the voice of Galvatron in 1986's animated classic flick, Transformers The Movie, and now he returns, this time in the side of good as Sentinel Prime! Nimoy just celebrated his 80th bday a couple of days ago, and now this piece of news definitely gets my gears up and excited to watch this flick all the more, and together with Peter Cullen voicing Optimus Prime, Michael Bay may redeem himself yet with his last hurrah in the Transformers franchise! Transformers: Dark of the Moon is set to launch another wave of Cybertronian battles this July 7!
