Guardians of the Galaxy: Grooting is officially a word

Yes, because of the popularity of "Dancing Baby Groot" and the Awesome Mix movie that is James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy", the word "Grooting" has now officially been added to the Lexicon, and it's defined as "to move tree-rhythmically to the Jackson 5", as reported in Comic Book Resources.

And with that said, plus it being the 56th Birthday of the late King of Pop Michael Jackson himself, let's revisit that special "Dance Sequence" with little Groot... And Drax.

Throwback Thursday: Batman: Arkham Asylum turns 5 Years

As the world acknowledges 75 years of Batman this year, 2014 also marks many micro celebrations that fall within the Caped Crusader's long decorated history throughout comics and all forms of media. In fact, this week honors the 5th anniversary of arguably the first video game to depict The Dark Knight and his world flawlessly, and open doors to an array of sequels and follow-ups that would expand the gameplay and storyline in more ways than one.

That game is Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, DC Entertainment, Eidos Interactive, and Rocksteady Studios' "Batman: Arkham Asylum".

Released in August 25, 2009 for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and later for the Max OSX, Arkham Asylum is based on the Batman mythos as depicted in comic book continuity, but spiraling into its own universe beginning with this chapter. Written by veteran Batman writer Paul Dini, the game sees The Caped Crusader successfully capturing his longtime nemesis and adversary The Joker, and then driving him all the way straight to Arkham Asylum to put him behind bars. Unfortunately, this turns out to be a well orchestrated plan by the Clown Prince of Crime, as he breaks free with the help of his trusty assistant and love Harley Quinn and decides to lockdown Arkham and trap The Dark Knight within. With the inmates unleashed and a twisted diabolical plan that threatens all of Gotham City, Batman must put a stop to The Joker's plans... Whatever it takes.

Batman Arkham Asylum Trailer

Not since the Sunsoft NES Batman game has a game faithfully depicted Batman as he was intended to be, but Arkham Asylum beautifully made that concept a reality, and literally made players "BATMAN" as they used his fighting prowess, excellent detective skills, and useful array of gadgets to thwart The Joker's schemes and defeat all the crazy baddies going in a rampage inside the institution. Rocksteady literally created a template with their first attempt, combining all iterations of Batman seen through the years and successfully installed a realistic world that saw The Dark Knight come to life, using the Unreal Engine 3 with satisfying visuals and results. Additionally, Batman: The Animated Series voice actors Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Arleen Sorkin reprised their famous roles as Batman, The Joker, and Harley Quinn for this game, giving it a much needed boost in familiarity for fans of the franchise and the DC Animated Universe.

Truly, Arkham Asylum is one for the Batbooks, and finds itself etched as one of the definitive experiences in Batman history. Gameplay was just as easily addictive, and as it opened doors for an inevitable sequel in Batman: Arkham City in 2011, a prequel in Batman: Arkham Origins in 2013 (which was developed by Warner Bros. Games Montreal), and the upcoming next-generation title with Batman: Arkham Knight - which will be the final installment in the Batman: Arkham Series coming in 2015.

If you haven't played Batman: Arkham Asylum, there's no better time than now to experience it.

Donald Glover will voice Miles Morales in "Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors"

Looks like Miles Morales is finally going to be played by someone who's wanted to play Spider-Man for a long time, and the casting couldn't be perfect to boot since he's the actor who inspired the creation of the character in the first place.

According to USA Today and CBR, Community alum Donald Glover is going to provide the voice of Miles in the upcoming new season of Disney XD's Ultimate Spider-Man series in "Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors". Glover, who dressed up as Spidey in the show, inspired writer Brian Michael Bendis to create the new webslinging hero for the Ultimate Spider-Man comics following the death of Peter Parker in that universe. Now, it comes full circle, and Glover will voice the role in the show and meet other Spider-Men in the process during the "Spider-Verse" story arc that will play out in the season.

The brand new season of "Ultimate Spider-Man" premieres on August 31 on Disney XD.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Adrianne Palicki is Mockingbird

A well-know character from the pages of Hawkeye, S.H.I.E.L.D, and The Avengers is coming to the small screen and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as The Hollywood Reporter has reported that G.I.Joe: Retaliation star and actress Adrianne Palicki is going to play the role of Bobbi Morse, better known as the superheroine Mockingbird!

Alex Ross' 75th Anniversary cover to "Superior Iron Man" looks stunning

In what is certainly a nice way to pay tribute to one of the most recognizable superheroes in this day and age, comic book superstar artist extraordinaire Alex Ross has painted a grand variant cover to "Superior Iron Man #1", which signals a new direction for Tony Stark following the events of Avengers & X-Men: Axis.

As featured in Comic Book.com's exclusive look at some of Marvel's November solicitations, here is Ross's epic looking cover, featuring Iron Man's beginnings, his early armors, and time with the Avengers, with the Red & Gold armor prominently in the center of it all!

Batman: Greg Capullo teases Batman: Endgame with a pencilled image

Batman with a gun. Harper Row as Bluebird. And... A masked vigilante that could be the new Nightwing?

These are some of the speculations to come straight out of a pencilled image that artist Greg Capullo tweeted from his official Twitter page, which was featured in Newsarama and is obviously a tease for his and writer Scott Snyder's next big epic Batman story for The New 52 - Batman: Endgame. That begins with issue #35 next month, and as Snyder teased in a video with DC All Access.

Seeing Batman using a firearm may be a big surprise to most since he has the "No Kill" rule, but it certainly is not unheard of. In the early days of Bill Finger and Bob Kane's run with the Caped Crusader, he used guns. Also, it could be a modified stun weapon similar to what an aged Bats used against Superman in Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. Seeing Harper Row in action with Batman is not a surprise since this storyline is supposed to take place after the events of Batman: Eternal... But the new kid to the left of The Caped Crusader is a mystery that needs solving. Could it be Dick Grayson back in a costumed identity, or is it Harper's brother joining the fight?

We'll find out soon enough when Batman #35 begins "Endgame".

Batman: Scott Snyder describes his "Craziest Story Yet" for The Caped Crusader post-Zero Year

It's been a WILD RIDE retelling the origins of one of the world's most recognizable superheroes, but writer  Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo did it with Batman and the mega-hit storyline "Zero Year", modernizing The Dark Knight and making his beginnings as contemporary and more immersive as they come.

But things aren't quite done for Snyder... He has BIG AND CRAZY THINGS in store for The Caped Crusader next, and that comes with his next saga with Capullo called "Endgame". A brief hiatus of sorts takes place this month with Batman #34, but Endgame begins in the next issue in Batman #35, and draw out quite the "blockbuster of epic proportions" as Snyder teases to DC All Access in this new video interview with the hot talent and writer for the main Bat book for The New 52 DC Universe.

Scott Snyder's Craziest Batman Story Yet

We're teased alright... What's going to happen next? Only Snyder and co. know for sure.

GamesCom 2014: Hideo Kojima teams w/ Guillermo Del Toro for Silent Hills w/ Norman Reedus; Metal Gear Solid V comes to PC

Konami is on a roll for Gamescom 2014, and it's all thanks to Hideo Kojima.

In addition to the man himself appearing and "teasing" more of his upcoming epic that is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain with "a demonstration" of the new abilities of the Cardboard Box, the acclaimed video game developer and leader of Kojima Productions has also confirmed his involvement in a new Silent Hill game called "Silent Hills", which he'll be working on together with "Pacific Rim" and "Hellboy" director Guillermo Del Toro, with "The Walking Dead" and Daryl Dixon actor himself Norman Reedus set to star in it! As reported in Kotaku, That "P.T" announcement that was shown in the Sony Playstation Conference was pretty much the new Silent Hill's teaser, so Kojima has surprised us once again with goodness to come.

Silent Hills Reveal Trailer

Also, Kotaku has put up a report that pretty much confirms that Metal Gear Solid V as a whole is coming to PC and Steam

As for a release date for these titles, that has yet to be confirmed... For now.

DC Comics: Gotham By Midnight ongoing series announced

Gotham City may be protected by The Batman from the criminals and supervillains, but there is more afloat beyond the normal that The Dark Knight can only take so much of, and that's why Jim Corrigan is here to take over matters of the Supernatural.

As announced by DC Comics on Blastr and featured by Newsarama, a new ongoing Batman-related series for The New 52 is beginning this November, and it's called "Gotham By Midnight". Spinning off the currently ongoing events of Batman Eternal, Gotham PD's own Jim Corrigan and his alter ego The Spectre will team up with a bunch of other spirit-hunting beings to take on THE "Gotham Underworld", which manifests itself beyond the shadows of the city's gaze. The series will be written Ray Fawkes (who's one of the main writers for Eternal), and will be joined by 30 Days of Night artist extraordinaire Ben Templesmith.

So much like Constantine and Justice League Dark, another supernatural DC Comics title will rise. Gotham By Midnight begins its ongoing run on November 26, 2014.

Remembering Robin Williams...

It's hard not to choke up and be affected by the sudden death of a legendary actor who has literally touched the hearts of many worldwide like Robin Williams. His storied career in film, television, and stand-up comedy is what made him a household name, and for over 4 decades, he has entertained millions around the globe with performances that have made us laugh and made us cry - The true testament of an iconic presence and master of his craft.

The news literally shocked the world, and even after reading the breaking story via Coming Soon early this morning, I still couldn't accept or believe this tender presence from Hollywood was truly gone. He was a friend to many in the industry, and certainly charmed his way to viewers and the general public thanks to his great and fun charisma too.

It's no big secret either that one of Robin's closest friends is the late and great Christopher Reeve, whom the world knows better as the actor best known for portraying Superman in the 1978 film of the same name directed by Richard Donner. Reeve and Williams were classmates in Julliard School, and there would be tales of Chris sharing his blessings and food with Robin when times were going hard for the latter. In fact after Reeve was paralyzed in an equestrian competition accident, Williams was one of the first to visit his friend's side, cheering his friend up by reprising his role from "Nine Months" and making him laugh and realize he was going to be ok.

The Best Robin Williams Moments | Mashable

Those tender moments, as well as the roles Robin Williams embodied were the stuff of legends. He was well known for his time in television as the alien Mork in the Happy Days spin-off show "Mork & Mindy", and through film he has captured our hearts with roles of friends and beings we'd like to consider as good friends to be by our side. He played the heroic Popeye, voiced the Genie from Disney's beloved animated movie adaptation Aladdin, and played the older Peter Pan in the Steven Spielberg directed futuristic tale of Hook too. Williams also embodied the position of mentor and teacher in the films "Good Will Hunting" and "Dead Poets Society", and turned things like laughter, talent, and humanity into a strength amidst great odds in the movies "Patch Adams", "Mrs. Doubtfire", and "BiCentennial Man". There are so many roles to discuss and lay out, but everyone has a favorite and a timeless classic to relate the man and his legacy with to their very own lives and experiences.

So with this, we can only give our prayers, thanks, and gratitude to a man who has truly lived his life to entertain us with everything he had. Thank you and R.I.P, Robin Williams. :(

Marvel Cinematic Universe: Hi-Res pic of Josh Brolin as Thanos

Probably most of you caught Guardians of the Galaxy already by now... And probably heard of the official casting of actor Josh Brolin as the big intergalactic baddy of the Marvel Cosmic Universe himself, Thanos the Mad Titan.

Following that big SDCC '14 Marvel Studios' panel announcement that pretty much cemented his new role in an Epic way, the American Gangster and Men In Black III star has appeared in GotG as a "presence" that builds up to something bigger down the line in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character first appeared in Joss Whedon's "The Avengers" in 2012, but in a cameo appearance in the film's mid-credits scene, and was played by actor Damion Poitier.

When the Mad Titans next appearance will be is anyone's guess, but Marvel Studios' producer Kevin Feige did say he could be the villain for the third Avengers film, since Ultron will be the focus of the next MCU movie slated for May 2015 with Avengers: Age of Ultron. Only time will tell for sure.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: Now opening on March 25, 2016; DC Films mystery schedule mapped out as well

Looks like fans worried about the release date clash between a DC Comics film and Marvel movie can breath a sigh of relief, as good news comes in the form of a new release date for Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice!

As reported by Coming Soon.net, the sequel to the Man of Steel has now moved from a May 6, 2016 date to March 25, 2016, effectively putting in ahead of all contenders in that year. Now Henry Cavill's Superman can meet/ square-off with Ben Affleck's Batman and also come face-to-face with Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman without contending with Marvel Studios' own Star-Spangled Patriot's third outing, which is also set for a May 6 release that year.

Also announced in the source post is a schedule Warner Bros. has mapped out for DC Films, which run all the way to the year 2020. While no titles have been given or associated with the dates:

August 5, 2016

June 23, 2017

November 11, 2017

March 23, 2018

July 27, 2018

April 5, 2019

June 14, 2019

April 3, 2020

and June 19, 2020

They've also scheduled "event" films (i.e., not necessarily DC Comics related) for:

November 16, 2018

and November 20, 2020.

That's pretty much the DC Cinematic Universe laid out right there, and one has to wonder where Shazam and Justice League fit in to this schedule. Only time and updates will tell as they come along from WB and DC Entertainment.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice now has a release date of March 25, 2016!

Avengers: Age of Ultron has wrapped filming - Joss Whedon Tweets it so

It's pretty much the picture that will make Marvel fans crave for May 1, 2015 fast.

Via his official Twitter page and as seen in Comic Book.com, director Joss Whedon is letting the entire world know that he and his talented cast and crew have wrapped up filming Avengers: Age of Ultron - his sequel to his 2012 superhero team blockbuster film The Avengers and the next Marvel Cinematic Universe film after Guardians of the Galaxy that wraps up "Phase 2" of Marvel Studios second leg of films.

After stating that he's done filming, Whedon quips "What The Hell Do I Do Now?" - well, that's obviously set for post-production and more marketing before we the film is ready for its May release next year, as well as the world waiting for the first big official trailer that fans can finally see outside of the one that those lucky enough to attend San Diego Comic-Con this year saw.

It's still a long road to the second installment of Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the big screen, but fans can wait... And in Whedon we trust.

Avengers, Age of Ultron hits on May 1, 2015!

Batman v Superman: Ben Affleck's Batman reported to be in his 50's; a veteran and lost a Robin; Set video/ photos of him as Bruce Wayne online;

It'll be quite a while until we see official photos of him in action, but the world has already seen two official stills of Hollywood actor and director Ben Affleck as the new Batman for Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. upcoming sequel to the 2013 Superman reboot film "Man of Steel" with "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice".

Through his official Twitter feed and with the latest just debuting recently for last month's San Diego Comic-Con, Snyder has teased Affleck's Batman, who's supposedly a "tired, weary, and battle-hardened" Bruce Wayne, with a costume that looks and gets its inspiration from Frank Miller's seminal futuristic Batman tale that is "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns".

The cowl's ears in Affleck's suit are shorter, and he has a huge Bat Symbol in his chest that is very much like the one seen in the graphic novel. In fact, those who were lucky to attend SDCC '14 this year caught a glimpse of the teaser footage shown in Hall H (which leaked online as well), which saw Affleck donning the Armored Batman suit that was featured in the final part of the Dark Knight Returns storyline and confronting Henry Cavill's Superman amidst a rainy city and a Bat-symbol shining in the sky.

Looks like the references and direct influence Frank Miller's work has on the upcoming movie is going to be strong too, as a new report by Badass Digest suggests that Ben Affleck will indeed play a veteran Batman, one who has a decorated career as a vigilante and has lost a Robin during his years of crimefighting.

According to the article and as seen in Comic Book.com, this Batman is "still an urban legend, a creature of the night, and no one has ever taken his picture. But he's had plenty of adventures, and the Batcave includes a memorial centered around a tattered Robin costume."

The memorial display in the Batcave is a direct nod to The Dark Knight Returns, and if Bats has lost a Robin, it would most certainly be his second ward and sidekick, Jason Todd, who was killed off in the 80's by The Clown Prince of Crime himself, The Joker. Years later, Jason would be resurrected and would take on the role of the Red Hood, a persona that has carried over to The New 52 universe as well. However, how this is adapted for Batman v Superman remains to be seen. It's still in the early stages of filming, but Ben Affleck's Batman is certainly separating itself from the Nolanverse Batman that was personified and brought to life by Christian Bale in The Dark Knight Trilogy.

Also featured is a video by YouTube user Samuel Otten that shows Affleck on the set of BvS as Bruce Wayne, with streaks of grey that signify that he is indeed older.

Guardians of the Galaxy reaches $94 Million in the US Box Office; James Gunn thanks everyone for the film

It may sound like a miracle, but it was all hard work for James Gunn and his cast and crew that made the latest Marvel Studios blockbuster hit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe that is Guardians of the Galaxy.

The film is GOING STRONG, and has earned as much as $94 Million in the Box Office in the US for its opening weekend, making it one of the biggest openings ever for the month according to a report by Superherohype.

Taking the time to go to his official Facebook page and reply to the fans for the immense success the film has enjoyed, Gunn had this to say:

Thanks to all of you who saw (and are seeing) Guardians of the Galaxy this weekend, from the bottom of my heart. The Guardians are a group of oddballs, outcasts, and geeks. The movie is for anyone who ever felt cast aside, left out, or different. It's for all of us who don't belong. This movie belongs to you. And, today, I think we're doing okay.

I am of course happy with all the film has accomplished box-office-wise. But what touches me the most is that the film I told the folks at Marvel I wanted to make two years ago is the film that you're seeing in theaters today - it's that so many of you seem to be directly EXPERIENCING the film I INTENDED. The cast, the producers, the crew, and I felt like we were making something special while we were making it. But it is very rare that a director's INTENTIONS in creating a film, or a scene, or a character, or a line of dialogue are, seemingly, specifically what is experienced by an audience (not to mention critics!), and that seems to be what has happened here. You have allowed a talking raccoon - for a moment, a minute, or a day - to make you a little more human. And for that, I am profoundly grateful.

If I relied on myself to implement these intentions, the film would be a shambling mess. But instead, I had a wonderful cast, genius producers, an incredibly brave studio, sublimely talented visual effects artists, great editors, and the best damn crew of mostly-British bastards to actually implement these intentions for me. Where I had a good idea they would, through alchemy, transform it into a great one. Many of you involved are friends of mine on Facebook. Many of you will read this somewhere else. I love you all.

You may remember me posting here a couple weeks ago how sad I was to be finishing up the film, that I was having trouble letting go of Rocket, and that I was going to miss him. But seeing him (and Groot, and the rest of the team) embraced by the world like they have been, to be UNDERSTOOD, makes it a wonderful letting go. It's like giving a foster pet up for adoption to the most wonderful parents in the world.

And, of course, I'm not really saying goodbye as, while many of you have been enjoying the film, I've spent this weekend hard at work on the sequel. I couldn't help myself! The results are nice but it's really the creative process I love and that keeps me going. I'm on fire with this thing! The Guardians have so many hardships and heartaches and triumphs ahead of them, and I can't wait to share them with all of you.

Onto week two...

Love, James

And that is from the heart of a director who did what he sought to do, and his vision was interpreted in an 80's style, space opera, comic book film of a masterpiece. Thank you James Gunn, and I can't wait for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in 2017!

Also, this little nostalgia of a box art shared by Gunn in Facebook was, well, Awesome.

And if you haven't gotten the soundtrack yet... You must find that Awesome Mix Vol. 1!

Catch Guardians of the Galaxy in theaters around the world now!

Star Wars X DC: Batman & R2-D2 & more Batman v Superman x Star Wars mash up pics

If The Dark Knight had to cross the long dessert landscape of Tatooine, he'd have a certain trusty droid by his side...

At least that's what Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder thinks when he tweeted this cute image of Batman walking side-by-side with Star Wars universe's own R2-D2, in the same sandy planet where Luke Skywalker was raised and grew up in. This is the third image that mashes up DC's iconic heroes with a galaxy far, far away, as Snyder also shot a photo of Henry Cavill as Superman, only wearing a Jedi robe and brandishing a Sith lightsaber!

One has to wonder... What the heck is going on here? Even Star Wars Episode VII star John Boyega was seen wearing a Batsuit, and director J.J. Abrams tweeted it and was also spotlighted in Comic Book.com.

This is probably Snyder and Abrams poking fun at one another, and the fans are loving it.XD
