Fan Made Awesomeness: G.I. Joe: Red Retrieval
"They fight for freedom wherever there's trouble". Fans love them, and that's why these awesome things are made by fans.
Via Comic Book Movie, here's a actual G.I. Joe movie that brought out the nostalgic geek in me, and sent waves of excitement down my spine. It's created by one Mark Cheng, and he did all this with just $2,500! Check it out!
G.I. Joe: Red Retreval
As seen in his introduction about the film at his own You Tube channel, the man proves he put a lot of effort and thought into this project:
This is NOT the GI Joe movie you've all been dying to see.
This is NOT the GI Joe movie you're dying to unsee.
This is the GI Joe movie I saw in my head more than 25 years ago. I watched the cartoons, read the comics, and collected the toys when I was a kid. Eventually I moved on from GI Joe but from that franchise came my love for war movies - Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, Band of Brothers - and my deep respect for the armed services and the men and women who serve.
Through working on this film - a process that took a year and a half - I realized the significance that GI Joe played in my childhood. Batman works alone, X-men was about strength in diversity, Transformers was pure awesome robots. But GI Joe was about a team of heroes working together, taking care of one another, never giving up, and staying until the fight was won. That's what I saw in my head, kept in my heart, and what I've tried to put into this film. As adults we've lost some of our innocence and, tragically, some of our idealism. We know heroes don't dodge bullets by doing cartwheels. Sometimes they get hurt, sometimes they don't come home. But under layers of dirt, grime, and blood, the hero is still there and he still sacrifices. And it's under those same layers of dirt and blood, that the spirit of GI Joe will always live.
The other thing I wanted to capture is that feeling from when I was 8 years old lying the floor with my action figures. I'd line up my GI Joe figures next to my Star Wars figures next to my He-Man figures and next to my Autobot Transformers. It didn't matter that the toys were of a different scale, possessed inexplicable powers, came from different brands, or lived in different universes. The ONLY things that mattered was that Good was about to defeat Evil, and that it was going to be SOOOO AWESOMEEEE.
So in a way, this is not the GI Joe movie I saw in my head 25 years ago. The film started that way, grew up like I did, got dirty like the world around us, but finds itself once again like the inner kid we all have within us.

Entitled "Silent Hill: Stolen Heart", the 5 minute feature was directed by Paul Leeming, and was filmed in an abandoned mining town that actually looks like Silent Hill itself given the proper effects and fog! DC and Jim Lee present... The New 52 Darkseid!
He has been called many things. Evil. Vile. Badass. Now, in light of recent events in the DC Universe with DC Comics' "New 52"relaunch, Geoff Johns and Jim Lee via their Justice League series are about to reintroduce a classic villain whose name demands attention... Darkseid! DC The Source has the first look of the evil warlord from Apokolips as rendered by Lee himself, and he's looking more menacing than ever!
The legendary creation of the late and great Jack Kirby... remade! Design wise, he still has his basic shape and look, but it's a new set of armor design, and it appears to draw some influence from his "Final Crisis" appearance. I'm all in favor of this new look for the man who would be a fearsome foe to Superman and the Justice League, and one has to wonder what scheme he'll be plotting in the coming issues. For more info and details, check out the source post at DC The Source!

Justice League: Doom Canadian Cover Art revealed!
Via Comic Book Movie, DC Nation has released the Canadian cover art to their next DC Universe Animated Original Movies feature, Justice League: Doom. The film, which is loosely based on the classic Mark Waid JLA story "Tower of Babel", sees Batman's secret files of every member on the Justice League stolen, and thus is summarily exploited to render his allies helpless. The Canadian cover art alone foreshadows this indirect betrayal of The Dark Knight to his teammates, with Batman fron and center, holding a batarang that bears a reflection of Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Superman, and Cyborg.
Featuring the voices of Tim Daly, Kevin Conroy, Susan Eisenberg, Michael Rosenbaum, Nathon Fillion, Carl Lumbly, and Bumper Robinson as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash (Barry Allen instead of Wally West), Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Martian Manhunter, and Cyborg respectively, Justice League: Doom looks to be an exciting tale not to be missed by DC fans out there. It's already known and confirmed that The Dark Knight Rises will be getting a prologue attached to IMAX Screenings of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, but Box Office Mojo has reported that the segment finally has an MPAA rating up, and it's going to be "PG-13" for "some violence. It's a forgone conclusion that the movie will be violent and full of action scenes, but what the prologue will showcase is still anyone's guess at this point. First Banner of Snow White and the Huntsman hits the web
Via Slash Film and Bleeding Cool, the first poster in the form of a banner for Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman" has been released, featuring its stars Kristen Stewart (Twilight), Charlize Theron, and Chris "Thor" Hemsworth on the spotlight and assuming their roles as Snow White, The Evil Queen, and The Huntsman respectively. Directed by Joe Roth, this is of course a new, darker, and more adventurous take on the classic fairy tale, where the evil queen tries to dispose of Ms. White, who is the only other lady fairer than her in the land. Unbeknownst to the queen, Snow White has been training with a Huntsman dispatched to kill her, so that gives the young lady a fighting chance against her would-be killer. Also joining the cast is Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides star Sam Claflin, who plays Prince Charming, and a trailer for the movie is expected within the week, so stay tuned for more updates as they arrive. Loosely based on the classic Mark Waid JLA storyline "Tower of Babel", where Batman's protocol secrets of taking out his own teammates if they should ever go rogue are stolen by one of his greatest enemies, Ra's Al Ghul, Doom will take the basic premise of that plot, and have the Legion of Doom instead using Batman's secrets to incapacitate the Justice League.

34 Years of Hulking Out with The Incredible Hulk TV Series!
Besides being the 5th of November today, another celebration is at hand, for today marks the birthday of a certain iconic TV series in the late 70's that's based on an iconic Marvel Comics' character many people can well relate with.
On November 4, 1977, US TV Network CBS commissioned the release of the first TV Movie of "The Incredible Hulk", which starred the late and great Bill Bixby as Dr. David Banner, a scientist who accidentally bombards himself with gamma radiation that turns him into a giant muscle-bound green monster whenever he's in stress. The creature (played by world famous bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno) is driven by rage, and is wanted for a murder he didn't commit. Presumed dead to the world, Banner travels around as a nomad, desperately searching for a cure, and a way to tame the monster within him. The TV pilot proved a success, and after a couple of more TV Movies, a TV series was commissioned the following year, which ran for 82 episodes and lasted from 1978-1982.
The Incredible Hulk TV Series Intro and DVD trailer
Developed by TV producer Kenneth Johnson and adapted from the comic book series of the same name created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, The Incredible Hulk, for its time, was an iconic look at the character and how a good man literally struggled with his inner demons, which usually ended up becoming a tragic hero in a sense, trying to do good while being continuously persecuted, hunted, and misunderstood by the public eye. Lou Ferrigno is particular became synonymous with the role for his portrayal of the jade giant, having his entire body colored in green and wearing yellow contacts to give his eyes that monstrous look. Bill Bixby gave that timid and desperate performance of a good man trying to control his other side, but circumstances force the beast out, and he is helpless to stop it from being unleashed.
Celebrating its 34th anniversary this year and despite its age, The Incredible Hulk continues to serve up bouts of nostalgia and enthusiasm for those who have been fortunate enough to catch this series when it was televised or through reruns via syndicated networks. As a kid, I've always been fascinated with the character and the various ways he's been portrayed, and the Bixby/ Ferrigno take remains a cult classic to this very day. In fact, the influence of the show has branched out even further through the years in the history of popculture. Shows like Dexter Laboratory and Family Guy have recreated the scenes and lines when Bill Bixby utters the infamous words "You wouldn't like me very much when I'm angry" prior to his painful transformation. Here's the clip from Family guy recreating the intro:
Family Guy "Incredible Hulk" Intro
As for the Hulk himself, Lou Ferrigno got to appear in cameo roles in the two Hulk movies that were released in the 2000's, so there's a lot of respect and tribute going around for his contributions.
Because of the TV Series and the comics from Marvel which it was based from, the legacy of The Incredible Hulk has endured for many years, and countless adaptations of the character have made their mark through cartoons, games, toys, books, and movies. After Eric Bana and Edward Norton's stab at the role, Mark Ruffalo will be doing the transforming into a green big monster come May 4th next year, when tthe live action adaptation of Marvel's The Avengers rolls into theaters. That's not all though, as Marvel has commissioned the production of a new Hulk TV series in the future as well. Time will tell how that will turn out. Right now, the memories of the beast have been unleashed... So remember the name and Hulk Out!

Remembering the 5th with a little V...
Whether you're wearing your Guy Fawkes' inspired mask, reading, or watching a copy of V for Vendetta, today is indeed the 5th of November. With that in mind, it's time to reminisce about this stellar dystopian future tale that was originally released as a comic book series/ graphic novel by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. To commemorate the occasion, here's a You Tube video I found that compiles a collection of clips and scenes from the film adaptation directed by the Wachowski Bros., which featured Hugo Weaving as the elusive freedom fighter vigilante V and Natalie Portman as Evey, released 5 years ago and remains one of the more obscure yet classic movies to this day.
In this tribute video, V goes on to say those epic lines that many have recited to remember this day, with the BGM "Evey Reborn" playing in the background...
