Real reason for G.I.Joe: Retaliation's delay is due to Duke's role in the sequel
However your reaction may have been to the news some posts ago, the delay of G.I.Joe: Retaliation was undoubtedly upsetting to joe fans looking forward to the sequel. Bumped from a June 2012 to March 2013 release, Paramount Pictures explained that the cause for the delay was to convert to 3D. Several rumors through various sources online also suggest that the delay was caused by much needed reshoots, and possibly getting Joseph Gordon-Levitt back as Cobra Commander. However, news from Comic Book Movie and Deadline now suggest that there's a "real" reason for the pushing of the film's release, and it has something to do with Duke. SPOILER ahead after the jump, so read at your own risk!
Deadline and Comic Book Movie report that the "real" reason for the movie's delay may be screen test reaction to the death of the first film's primary protagonist - Conrad "Duke" Howser, who's once again played by Channing Tatum. One quote for the article said:
"In our first screening of the film the reaction from audiences was good but with 2 big concerns: 1) They didn’t like the fact that Channing and The Rock really didn’t have any time to develop a friendship before Channing died, and 2) Why wasn’t it going to be in 3D? We went back and shot another week with Channing to develop more of his story with The Rock, which made the film play much better. But we didn’t have the time to be in 3D. "
Take it as you will, but whether this is a good enough reason or not, the battle cry of "Yo Joe" won't be sounded out until 2013. For more information, visit the source post at CBM and Deadline!
G.I.Joe: Retaliation shoots into theaters next year on March 29, 2013!
