Jurassic Park IV confirmed; Steven Spielberg to serve as producer
It's time to go back... Back to Jurassic Park!
Following word that his next project "Robopocalypse" will be delayed, news has arrived that Steven Spielberg will next tackle something familiar... A franchise that he started and directed the first film of 20 years ago... a sequel to Jurassic Park! Confirmed by Universal Pictures and slated for release on 3D and 2D next year, Jurassic Park IV is a go... And the dinosaurs will return to the big screen!
Serving on a producer capacity, Spielberg will be attached to the newly announced "Jurassic Park IV", the fourth installment of a series of films that revolves around a theme park that has found a way to resurrect dinosaurs in the modern age and the consequences that follow because of it. Initially based on the novels by acclaimed writer and author Michael Crichton, the first Jurassic Park was adapted into a feature film released in 1993 and directed by Steven Spielberg. It was a critical success, and spawned two sequels - one that was based on Crichton's follow up book and also directed by Spielberg, called The Lost World: Jurassic Park released in 1997, and Jurassic Park III in 2001 which was directed by Joe Johnston. Both follow-ups received mixed reviews, yet Spielberg kept his eye on the franchise and looked to work with the dinosaurs again.
With this year marking the 20th Anniversary of Jurassic Park and the first film seeing a 3D re-release this April, Universal has confirmed that Jurassic Park IV is official and will see release on June 13, 2014! That's a year away, and with no director named yet but Spielberg serving as producer, that's still something for fans of the franchise to be excited about!
