Marvel Movies: Joss Whedon confirms Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch for The Avengers 2
Following rumors and reports of a "brother and sister" duo joining Earth's Mightiest Heroes when they return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with "The Avengers 2", director Joss Whedon has confirmed that the popular sibling team of Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch will indeed be in the sequel, which is expected to hit theaters on May 1, 2015!
In an interview with IGN and reported by Superherohype as well, Whedon went to point out that his interest in the characters grew because "they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn't necessarily agree with The Avengers". Indeed, Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch are mutants, and most notably the children of the X-Men's deadliest adversary, Magneto.
Of course, their inclusion would be interesting, considering 20th Century Fox's hold on the X-Men franchise and the pair being familiar characters themselves in the X-Verse. However, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff are better recognized by comic book fans as Avengers first, so it's good news for fans of Marvel and Marvel Studios to see two more icons join the Marvel Cinematic Universe... With more surprises still in store and possibly more heroes joining the ranks of Earth's Mightiest Heroes still!
The story also goes to point out that despite the ending of Iron Man 3, Tony Stark will indeed return, as Joss Whedon assures it! While casting negotiations are still ongoing, it's good to note that the Marvel Movies are still on track. Let's hope they keep the talents as they are!
Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe began with Iron Man 3. The Avengers 2 hits on May 1, 2015!
