Ben Affleck steps down as director of "The Batman"
Looks like the upcoming solo film of the DC Extended Universe won't be seeing its Dark Knight star and actor taking the director's chair, as Variety reports the unfortunate news that "Argo" and "The Town" director Ben Affleck has decided to step down as director of the Batman solo film tentatively titled as "The Batman".
In the story by Variety, Affleck went on to say why he decided to back peddle and step away from directorial duties, which was officially confirmed during last year's San Diego Comic-Con.
“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions,” Affleck said in a statement. “Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”
There you have it. This is probably for the best as constant pressures of being asked about updates do weigh in on Ben, as does having to direct, write, and star in productions he makes. Affleck is still set to star and be a fellow driving force behind the film and the DCEU. His latest film, Live By Night, was released in theaters on Christmas before hitting theaters worldwide on early January. His next appearance as Batman will be in this November's "Justice League".
