Star Trek Into Darkness Teaser Poster
Slated to come to theaters, 3D, and IMAX at warp speed next year, Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot Productions have released the very first teaser poster to J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movie sequel - Star Trek Into Darkness. Via Slash Film, here's the one sheet in all it's destructive glory.
With nothing but the Starfleet symbol etched in what appears to be a destroyed portion of Starfleet HQ on earth with Benedict Cumberbatch's character at the center looking over the city landscape.
Personally, it has a very "The Dark Knight" ring to it, reminiscent of the one teaser poster Batman stands overlooking the city from his penthouse, and the various ones depicting The Dark Knight and The Joker amidst Gotham in Chaos. This hints that the next Trek film will be more serious and darker in tone, and the official synopsis has a lot to say regarding that matter.
"In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew."
Don't forget, IMAX screenings of The Hobbit will have 9 minutes worth of footage to sneak peek for "Star Trek Into Darkness". Additionally, the first trailer will also appear around that time in regular showings. For more information about the teaser poster, visit the source post at Slash Film!
Star Trek Into Darkness launches a new adventure with the Enterprise crew on May 17, 2013!
UPDATE: For comparisons and similarities I noticed in theme with The Dark Knight posters. Here's this:
UPDATE 2: And a post in Collider confirms my comparison suspicions, with the TDKR teaser poster as reference too. It's being called "Star Trek Into Dark Knight" around the interwebz now.
