With a new trailer debuting this week to hype the release of the live action Rurouni Kenshin movie in August, it seems the very first official poster has also made its way online!
There he is, Takeru Satoh (Kamen Rider Den-O) as Himura Kenshin... formerly known as Hitokiri Battousai! If you haven't seen the trailer yet, check it out here to compliment the release of this fashionably awesome new poster!
Rurouni Kenshin debuts in Japanese theaters on August 25!
Via JEFusion, the second trailer for the live action adaptation of Nobuhiko Watsuki's Rurouni Kenshin. Starring Takeru Satoh of Kamen Rider Den-O fame as Kenshin Himura, the movie will focus on the first story arc with Kenshin's introduction and eventually squaring off against Jine, the Oniwabanshu, and Saito Hajime. Emi Takei plays Kamiya Kaoru, Munetaka Aoki will play Sagara Sanosuke, Yuu Aoi is Megumi Takani, and Taketo Tanaka will be Myojin Yahiko. Musician and actor Koji Kikkawa of Kamen Rider W fame (he played Kamen Rider Skull) will play the deadly Jine Udo, while Yosuke Eguchi will take on the role of Saito Hajime. Rurouni Kenshin slashes its way to theaters in Japan on August 25th!
Following up on a first-look scan released a few days ago and via a post at Anime News Network, the staff and makers of next year's upcoming live action adaptation of "Rurouni Kenshin". Also known as "Samurai X" in the US and based on the manga and anime series of the same name created by Nobuhiro Watsuki, the movie will premiere on August, and will star Takeru Satoh of Kamen Rider Den-O fame as the legendary slasher Kenshin Himura himself, with Emi Takei playing his love interest Kamiya Kaoru, who is pictured below.
Recently reported by Sankaku Complex and Anime News Network, it appears that Nobuhiro Watsuki's epic Manga/ Anime series Rurouni Kenshin (aka Samurai X in the US) is FINALLY getting the live action movie treatment in Japan! To be directed by Otomo Keishi, the film will also be produced and distributed by Warner Bros. Japan, and for an epic series like this, proper detail and attention like this should be rightfully given!
Kamen Rider-Den-O Opening
Cast in the titular role is Takeru Satoh, a familiar face to those who hop the Japanese live-action/ toksatsu series scene, as he's better known as Nogami Ryotaro from Kamen Rider Den-O! He'll act like "Oro" Kenshin perfectly alright! In the article posted by ANN, the 22 year old Satoh even expresses his amusement over getting the role, being a fan of the series since elementary school and stating that it the manga "his generation grew up with". He's currently undergoing intensive sword training this month, and production for the film is slated to start this July, with a release date sometime in 2012. This bit of exciting video game/ movie related news came a few days ago when I chanced upon the Entertainment section of the PhilStar, and since it's related to one of the fighting games I enjoy playing from time to time, I just needed to share it!
Actor John Foo, who will be playing lead character Jin Kazama in the Dwight H. Little directed live action movie adaptation of Tekken, will be coming the shores of the Philippines to grace the movie's premiere on July 24! An English actor and a practitioner of Wushu , John was recently seen as Ryu in the popular short film based on the Street Fighter series, Street Fighter Legacy. He also starred in several other action films, namely alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme as one of the first gen soldiers in Universal Soldier: Regeneration, and with Christian Bale as an uncredited League of Shadows warrior in Batman Begins! He also demonstrated his Wushu skills in the Tony Jaa starring action flick Tom-Yum-Goong, credited on his full name as Jonathan Patrick Foo. With a resume built up like that, John is clearly on an action movie roll here, and his role as Ryu in SF: Legacy remains one of my favorites, which you've got to check out here if you haven't yet. There will be a King Of Fighters Movie next year, and yes, it will feature Kyo, Iori, Mai, and Terry... but will it do any good? Judging from this trailer, I think we may end up in a world more far fetched than the one established over the years by the folks at SNK Playmore.
Ok... this is more sci-fi than epic fighting game madness. Honestly I never expected the KOF live action movie to work wonders. With fighting game movies like Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-Li "setting an example", it leaves me wondering how the future of videogame based movies will fare with films like these rolling and disapponting its hardcore fanbase. For the benefit of the doubt, I'll probably go see it for fun, but I wish the flick stuck more to its roots.

After a long night of partying and surprise, I woke up to this Fourth of July morning eager for some Saturday morning toons to catch at Cartoon Network. I certainly did just that, but I also remembered that today marked the official CN debut of Masked Rider Kabuto, and being a big fan of the series, I made it a point to see the show despite my misgivings on "the dubbing treatment" of similar shows on the network itself. Before anything else, here's a little primer for the unfamiliar.
Masked Rider Kabuto - Also known as "Kamen Rider Kabuto" in Japan, is just one of the many installments of the popular Kamen Rider franchise, which has spawned several characters and riders that continue to entertain kids and folks around the world thanks to it's spectacular use of stunts, suit actors, and special effects. Originally premiering back in 2006 and representing the franchise's 35th anniversary, KRK tells the story of Tendou Souji, a man who usually quotes his grandmother and appears to be quite skilled and confident, especially when it comes to cooking delicious cuisines of all kinds. He has trained vigorously for seven years, awaiting the day when his destiny call out and gives him his life mission - to become Kamen Rider Kabuto. Using a belt buckle and a mysterious device known as a Zecter, Tendou is able to transform into the crimson clad, blue-eyed hero, to combat a mysterious alien race known only to humanity as "Worms". As Kabuto, he empowered by the Masked Rider System, a device that gives the user the ability to bend space/ time via the "Clock Up System", which is perfect in dealing with the alien menace that has the ability to mimic people and move at fast speeds.
Back in its Heyday, KRK was a hit and clicked right away with its viewers. It was considered by many fans to be a "return to basics" in Kamen Rider standards, foregoing the use of gimmicks like cards and musical instruments and instead reusing simple transformation devices - in this case, "Zecters". As the series progressed, we would be introduced to several other Riders, each with their own style and motif that serves to aid or impede Kabuto's mission in destroying the Worms once and for all. Running for a total of 49 episodes, the show's popularity was only smeared by the rushed ending and many unresolved issues that were left hanging because of time constraints. Still, the series was able to deliver, and even spawned a theatrical movie called "God Speed Love". Popular J-actors also lent their amazing talents to the show and became even more successful as a result - such as the man who plays Tendou himself, Hiro Mizushima. It also had a cool opening - NEXT LEVEL as performed by YU-KI. Check it below and see for yourselves how awesome it looks.
Going back to the show itself, I just caught the first episode of the "dubbed version"... and it was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.O.o The same guys who usually dub shows on Animax and Asian Live Action features are back... only this time their performance here sounds more like a flat script reading session that's full of dead air. Seeing this just tightens my dedication to stick to the original Japanese itself (which was absolutely GREAT btw). Much of the jokes were lost in translation, and everyone sounded like a hokey circus act with no direction whatsoever. I also got irritated during the transformation sequence... the actor shouts "Transform" while the Zecter retains "HENSHIN"?! (Japanese for doi, Transform!). Man... this was one messed up dubbed. I'm sure it's truly aimed for kids who could care less for story and just want more action, but personally, I feel it's a waste. A show that was as good as Kabuto deserves some respectful treatment, but I guess some people just don't understand the novelty of an item... especially when it comes to retaining it's original presentation.
