SDCC '14: Benedict Cumberpatch addresses "Doctor Strange" rumors w/ MTV News

A lot of rumors and speculation is building as San Diego Comic-Con runs its course this week, and there's no exception for upcoming films falling under the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which includes a certain fan-favorite Sorcerer Supreme by the name of Doctor Stephen Strange. While it is indeed and already confirmed that horror film director Scott Derrickson would helm the film for a 2016 release, there's been no mention yet of who will star in the coveted titular role, until such time Marvel finally announces it either during their panel presentation this SDCC or sometime in the future.

Now, one of the strongest rumors to flow out of the woodwork was English actor and fan-favorite Sherlock star Benedict Cumberpatch being possibly tapped to play that role of the former neurosurgeon turned Earth's mystic and magical defender. In an exclusive interview with MTV News, Cumberpatch finally addressed those rumors, which you can see in the video below.

Voicing out that he is attached to do a play of "Hamlet" in London and that he could not comment whether he was in discussions with Marvel about the project, it's truly up to interpretation and sounds like a tease from the man who played Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness and voices Smaug: The Dragon in The Hobbit films. Only time will tell who really gets to play the Sorcerer Supreme in the Big Screen for sure. For more information, visit the source post at MTV.com.

Doctor Strange, falling under Marvel Studios "Phase Three" banner of films, is scheduled for a July 8, 2016 release

The Dark Knight Rises Update: No Harvey Two-Face returning

This is pretty much a known fact, but if you watched the end of 2008's "The Dark Knight" carefully, you know that Harvey "Two-Face" Dent, portrayed by Aaron Eckhart, died after Batman lunged at him to save Commissioner Gordon's son, resulting in Dent hurling to his death on the ground. Still, that didn't stop fans from speculating whether Dent did die or just lay unconscious, ready to return for a sequel should it happen.

Well, MTV News finally had a chance to meet and ask Aaron Eckhart again, who himself was quite curious about whether or not Two-Face was indeed coming back for 2012's "The Dark Knight Rises". He met up with director Christopher Nolan and asked about his role, and this is what he had to say about that meeting in this interview with MTV:

There you have it. Heartbreaking as it is for us and Aaron, the movie timeline still has to move forward. For more info, check out the source post over at MTV.

The Dark Knight Rises is still scheduled for release on July 20, 2012.

Captain America Update: Jon Favreau Confirms Howard Stark's Appearance!

What seems to be a growing trend of cameo appearances in Marvel movies has just gotten bigger, as Iron Man and Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau has confirmed that the armored avenger's dad, Howard Stark, will be appearing in The First Avenger: Captain America movie! MTV has an article and a video up on the scoop, where Favreau answers questions surrounding Howard's appearance in the World War II era. Of course, the character is named after inventor Howard Hughes, and he'll be much younger during that time, so actor John Slattery might not be back to reprise the role. Check out Jon Favreau's interview with MTV here:

This is quite a surprise, but it actually makes sense if it's a younger version of Howard. My friends and I were discussing several possibilities where the Stark name would appear down the line in Marvel history, and now we have a link of sorts teased for the Cap movie. For more info and details on the article, check out MTV.com and Enewsi.

The First Avenger: Captain America gets released on July 22, 2011.
