Ben Reilly returns to take back the mantle of Spider-Man with October's The Amazing Spider-Man #75

Get ready to go deja vu with the 1990's, as a fan-favorite character and former Scarlet Spider will once again return to take back to the mantle of Spider-Man this October! After Nick Spencer's run on Amazing Spider-Man concludes this September, Ben Reilly will lay claim to becoming THE Spider-Man in the pages of "The Amazing Spider-Man #75" - with the creative team of Zeb Wells, Kelly Thompson, Saladin Ahmed, Cody Ziglar, and Patrick Gleason - and the book will be three times a month to boot!

With the backing of the Beyond Corporation and a new drive to become the webslinging hero once more, Ben's tenure as Spidey again will no doubt bring another tangled web to the life of Peter Parker. Since his return as The Jackal in the Clone Conspiracy and then a redemption arc and return as the Scarlet Spider, it's going to be quite the new storyline with Peter's clone out to prove he's the best Spider-Man - period.

Read more about this story via Marvel, and watch out for the sneak peek of things to come this August when Free Comic Book Day 2021: Spider-Man/ Venom takes a look at this new spectacular development!

Medicom Toys reveals MAFEX Azrael Batman and Ben Reilly Spider-Man , Arrives this 2021

For comic book fans who grew up reading DC and Marvel stories from the 90's, a dose of nostalgia and awesome collector booty is going to hit the market next year as Medicom Toys has revealed their next batch of MAFEX action figures based on comic book characters - and it's Azrael's Batman and Ben Reilly as Spider-Man! Thanks to the interwebz, we get our first look at their figures and their alternate unmasked heads and accessories!

Based on the well-known "Batman: Knightfall" storyline of the 90's where Bruce Wayne was forced to relinquish the mantle of the bat after being broken by Bane, Azrael was chosen as the new Batman to defend Gotham while Wayne left the city for another mission - not realizing how mentally unstable and brutal his successor was. To that end, Jean-Paul Valley constructed a new Batsuit that was big departure from his predecessor - to take on Bane and show Gotham City that a new and more savage Dark Knight was watching its citizens.

Spiralling out of the controversial "Clone Sage" of the 90's, Ben Reilly - a clone of Peter Parker and thought to be the original by both men at the time, was chosen by Peter to take over as Spider-Man while the latter left New York City to build a new life with Mary Jane and their unborn child. Retiring the mantle of the Scarlet Spider, Ben fashioned himself a new costume and took over webslinging duties as the new and improved Amazing Spider-Man!

Both MAFEX action figures are scheduled to be released on September 2021!

Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider set to bring back the Classic Scarlet Spider look

Those who were surprised to learn that recently returned Spider-Man clone Ben Reilly was getting his own series and a new costume following the events of "The Clone Conspiracy" will be surprised even more, as Newsarama reports that Marvel has announced that Ben is also bringing back the ORIGINAL classic Scarlet Spider look sometime after the first arc of his new "Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider" comic book series. Written by Peter David and illustrated by Mark Bagley, Ben's new ongoing will follow after his "Jackal" phase -  but how he reverts to his Scarlet Spider persona is still a mystery especially after what happened in the conclusion of the aforementioned Clone Conspiracy series.

Here's a comparison between the old Scarlet look and the new one that appeared when the new series was announced.

Learn more on Ben's return and how the costume changes take place when "Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider" begins on April 26th.

Spider-Man: Ben Reilly returns in Scarlet Spider #21?

Comic book covers have been known to have truth or "red herring" moments to them, but Spider-Man fans who've kept up with the web-slinger's adventures over the years may want to take a look at this one for an upcoming issue of "Scarlet Spider".

Yes. It's him apparently. Peter Parker's clone and the 90's Spider-Man, Ben Reilly, apparently back from the dead and facing the new and current Scarlet Spider, Kaine. Marvel Comics artist Ryan Stegman recently revealed via his deviantArt the cover to "Scarlet Spider #21", and it shows Mr. Reilly back as the first Scarlet Spider.

While the original Peter is currently "gone" and Otto "Doc Ock" Octavius taking over his life in the pages of "Superior Spider-Man", ghosts from the 90's "Clone Saga" appear to be coming back, with this cover to Scarlet Spider #21 seemingly confirming the original Scarlet Spider's return with his trademark hoodie blue jacket and impact webbing to boot. Nobody can tell what's in store for Kaine as he faces his "brother", but it could be something else happening entirely in the issue. We'll just have to wait and see when it comes out.
