Released yesterday across the globe, the mini-version of the 1985 Nintendo Entertainment System is a retro gamer's dream come true - but only containing 30 pre-installed games inside of it and allowing a little indulgence of classic titles like Super Mario Bros. 3, Metroid, Megaman 2, and Ninja Gaiden to name a few.

Anyone who remembers playing NES games back in the day surely remembers Capcom's "DuckTales", and that game certainly made an impression on my childhood as well as any kid and gamer of the 80's! With the Penny Arcade Expo '13 (PAX East '13) ongoing, Capcom made the announcement and just dropped the bombshell on gamers nostalgic and new alike!

Abobo's Big Adventure: The Ultimate Tribute to the NES!

Saw it. Played it. LOVED IT.

If you're a fan of video games and everything that dates back to the 80's and the good ol' NES (Nintendo Entertainment System, or Famicom in Japan), then you truly owe it to yourself to check out this awesome piece of video game nostalgia - Abobo's Big Adventure. As the title implies, it stars none other than that big hunk of mass and muscle from the Double Dragon games, who's out to look for his lost son that's been kidnapped by the bad guys. As you'd expect, nobody messes with Abobo, and this game is a labor of love by fans of these types of games, who have programmed it to be just more than a simple side-scrolling beat 'em up game. Expect all kinds of gameplay that any NES fan will remember, from Super Mario Bros. to Legend of Zelda to Punch Out, and see all the kinds of mischief and mayhem one big dumb lovable guy will go through to save his offspring, with every kind of popculture reference and achievement to boot! Check out the trailer to this adventure!

Abobo's Big Adventure Trailer

Just by looking at the trailer, you know you want to play it. Thanks goes to Joystiq and Kotaku for the heads up on this epic flash game release, and thank you to Newgrounds and Team Bobo for delivering the ultimate tribute to the NES. PLAY IT HERE!

Happy 25 Years, Nintendo Entertainment System!

Here's a little shoutout to one of the earliest videogame systems I've ever had the privilege of experiencing through the course of my life. Picture up there is a snapshot of a second hand model I acquired a few weeks back. It's dusty and worn down, but it still functions and was luckily packed along with two controllers and a cartridge of Super Mario Bros. 3! Yes folks, Mario is not the only one celebrating his 25th anniversary, but so is the Nintendo Entertainment System, which was released in the US 25 years ago today! I talked about it a little while back in a previous post, but this is the real date to celebrate! Let's give the retro console a cheer and pat it in the back, as remember the good ol' times and funny moments we've all experienced back then as gamers!

Loving Super Mario Bros. Crossover!

Have any of you heard of this wonderful game called Super Mario Bros. Crossover? You haven't? Well, you should, especially if you're a fan of all things Nintendo and classic side scroller platform action! I got word of this Flash based game a couple of months back when news caught on of this superb flash project that was readily available to play, for free, at Newgrounds.com. Since then, a lot of people have tried it out, and the feedback has been absolutely amazing, with several fans and converts desperately seeking an official release for this game alone! Yeah, it's truly a must try piece of fan software, and here's how it looks like:

Yeah, that's old school NES Box Art style... with a twist that's so awesome and epic at the same time! There's a reason why it's called Super Mario Bros. Crossover, and you see it right here! Joining the famous plumber in his adventures to save the Mushroom Kingdom and Princess Peach are none other that Link from The Legend Of Zelda, Samus from Metroid, Bill from Contra, Simon Belmont from Castlevania, and Megaman! Now, you'd be wondering how they'd play if the gameplay in Super Mario is substantially different when compared to their respective games. Fear not! Every ability you remember, from Simon's whip to Megaman's Megabuster, is still intact, and it's done and adjusted in a manner that fits well into this game's environment. For example, when these guys pick up a mushroom or flower, their abilities enhance according to what power-ups or upgrades they received from their own games. Bill gets a machine gun when he picks up a mushroom, while Samus upgrades into her Metroid armor when she power-up. Amazing game, I tell you, and now a new member has joined this ragtag cast of NES heroes - Ninja Gaiden's Ryu Hayabusa himself! I tried him out, and the sucker plays EXACTLY the same as he did in his own games in the NES! Truly an epic piece, and we have programmer Jay Pavlina of Exploding Rabbit to thank for this work of art!

Super Mario Bros. Crossover can be played over at the game's official site! Go and visit, and relive classic old school NES action with a bang!

Super Street Fighter IV Update: New Trailer and... SF 2010?!

Just after the big announcement of New Costumes and Ultras, Capcom has released a juicy new trailer showcasing some of these brand new features to expect in Super Street Fighter IV, as shown in Gametrailers and You Tube! Check it out and go gaga over the new stuff... including the return of... Mecha Zangief! Whooo!!

Super Street Fighter IV New Features Trailer

Also, here's the latest episode of the Angry Video Game Nerd, spotlighting the old Capcom NES game, "Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight"! This bit isn't SSFIV related, but the AVGN's tribute art piece is a nice touch. I remember playing this game myself as a kid, and always wondered why the guy's name was Ken, and how everything "tried" to tie in with the SF Universe. Well, despite having nothing to do with Street Fighter or the whole fighting game franchise for that matter, it was a pretty challenging game during its time, and if you see this episode, you'll see what I mean. Hop on over to the AVGN's official website, or see the video via Gametrailers. One of the best eps I've seen and a great way to start the new year! LOL!
