Thousand Pounds makes Batman: Arkham City inspired martial arts video!

Since their take on making Ultra Combo inspired videos from Super Street Fighter IV, the Thousand Pounds Action Company has pretty much garnered the attention and praise of dozens of fighting game and martial arts buffs around the world. Their latest offering now packs quite the punch too, paying tribute to someone that almost everyone in the world can relate to because he's just that goddamn awesome... Batman.

Yes, Thousand Pounds pays tribute specifically to the latest Batman game, Batman: Arkham City, by presenting this nifty video where a young lady martial artist by the name of Mickey Facchinello shows that even a girl can rival the moves of The Dark Knight, blow for blow and speed to compliment the flashy moves! Anyone who's played Arkham City and have seen the way combat is initiated in the game will marvel at how brilliant this video is, and I kid you not!

Thousand Pounds Arkham City Inspired Test

Hell yes, she would make a awesome Batgirl/ Catwoman! Thanks to Kotaku for posting the story on wonderful piece! For more Thousand Pounds awesomeness, visit their Facebook page or official site!

Evo 2k11 has new champions!

For the life of me, I haven't been this much hyped about an e-gaming tournament for the longest time. Every single year I tune in to the streams and see the Evo Championship Series roll in, it makes my heart skip and tense at the prospect that literally ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN at any given moment, and it just did!

With the results in, Evo 2011 has finally concluded and is in the books. I wasn't able to catch everything due to obvious time differences and schedules, but I pretty much caught the most important and latter segments of the championships, which were the Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition tournament finals!

The Goddamn Batman, ToyCon, and the Back2Beatdown Tournament...

Two weekends ago on June 18 and 19, I attended the 10th Philippine Toys, Hobbies, and Collectibles Convention. It was an exhilarating experience, chalk full of fellow hobbyists and like minded individuals who share the passion of collecting and gathered to trade and showoff their collections to one another. Cosplaying was the other main highlight of the show, and for both days I went on ahead and took on the challenge of cosplaying as my childhood comic book hero - Batman. To say that the "Goddamn Batman" attended both days by himself and alongside the Justice League is an achievement on its own, and I had loads of fun checking out toys, comics, games, and other goodies while I scurried around three halls as the Caped Crusader.

The folks at Back2Gaming have a feature on a their "Back2Beatdown" fighting game tournament of which I participated in on Day One... dressed as the Goddamn Batman. Playing Super Street Fighter IV on their Xbox 360 set up at the B2G/ GameOps booth, I went through numerous challengers and battles just to make it to the finals, and what was initially just entering a tourney in ToyCon for fun turned into a full fledged victory... Clad as The Dark Knight for that matter! You can check out the feature article here as written by my pal Billy. Additionally, I participated on their recent podcast session about the ToyCon, which you can find here or download via this link!

For more details about my adventure and the ToyCon itself can be found at my other blog, which includes the first part of my video coverage, so be sure to check it out when you can!

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition comes home!

Finally, after months of waiting and playing new characters and balancing changes in the arcades, the Arcade Edition of one of my favorite fighting games out there finally comes home. Here's the trailer below to prove the point, and an article by Kotaku promoting the news!

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition DLC trailer

Hitting the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions sometime this year, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition is bring Yun, Yang, Oni Akuma, and Evil Ryu to consoles as DLC, with the balancing changes in store for the rest of the characters! New "New" characters would be much appreciated too Capcom, but this is already a treat, so I'm waiting for official news and a release date soon!

A New Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition Trailer Debuts!

The Nintendo 3DS is set to make its debut next month in Japan, and among the select number of launch titles will be Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition! This is great news for those itching to take the new Capcom brawler on the go with the newest portable system in the market, but can it deliver and play on par to its console brethren? Check out the new launch trailer to see the features and find out how the game looks for yourselves!

Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition New Trailer

Well, that looks encouraging enough! Seeing how the 3DS is making a buzz with promising titles on its list, I'm very much looking forward to giving this a shot, as well as other upcoming fighters like Dead Or Alive Dimensions and the recently announced port of Blazblue: Continuum Shift II. I'd still want a release of SSFIV for the PSP, but you never know what's going to happen or come in the world of gaming in the next few months. We'll just have to wait and see how things go from here.

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Update: Oni Akuma and Evil Ryu Revealed!

It appears that Capcom hasn't been pulling any punches in regards to adding new content for their impending arcade release of Super Street Fighter IV! This big update has also been posted on Event Hubs, so check out the trailer and see for yourselves! The game will be released sometime this month at arcades in Japan!

Super Street Fighter IV Update: The 3DS is getting Special Move Hotkeys...

Super Street Fighter IV is getting new releases in two different platforms. One is the franchise's original home, the arcades, and the game's going to get new tweaks and characters added to its roster in the form of Yun and Yang. The other platform is the Nintendo 3DS, the new portable gaming system Nintendo is gearing for release early next year. From the trailers and screenshots released, the port looks a lot faithful to its console counterpart, with its graphics understandably scaled down to compensate for the 3DS' requirements.

However, more pressing and slightly disappointing news appears via way of Kotaku. It appears that Capcom will be giving SSFIV 3DS access to 4 hotkey slots that players can assign moves and special moves to, allowing players to dish out punishment at the press of a button. While it may sound like good news that a simplified way has come to play Street Fighter, I'm not one of those favoring this mechanic being implemented. The game of Street Fighter has always been about challenging oneself and mastering moves and combos in order to improve one's skills. This eliminates any challenge from the equation, and practically makes the game "easy mode" on the go. Fine that beginners get this option to make it easier for them, but it won't teach them how the game is played properly. You play the game the only way it should be played - either with a controller or arcade stick, and the video below demonstrates how those tried and true rules apply to skilled veterans.

Anyway, Super Street Fighter IV arrives in arcades this December and launches for the 3DS in Japan on February 26, 2011.

Super Street Fighter IV Update: The first arcade action screenshot of Yun!

Super Street Fighter IV Producer Yoshinori Ono is quite the tease. Not only has he been updating his Twitter account constantly with updates concerning the arcade release of Super Street Fighter IV, but he's also been showing off picture progress, and the latest one all but officially confirms the appearance of another SFIII veteran making his debut in the newest Capcom brawler! Who am I talking about, why none other than Hong Kong born fighter Yun of course! Check out the pic released by Ono-San and the folks from Fighter's Generation!

Ah Ono-San, you're a real teaser.XD Who knows what Yun's Ultra move will be? Also, now that he's here, can we expect his brother Yang to follow as well? Stay tuned for more updates!

E3 2010: Super Street Fighter IV is heading to the 3DS!

E3 2010 is an epic event, and it's full of announcements and reveals that gamers craving for more goodies like a kid looking for tasty sweets at a candy store. Seeing the live feeds and trailers of what's happening over there made me wish all the more that I was actually participating in the festivities, but the news and updates are enough to tide me over... barely at least. Arguably, Nintendo is the highlight again of this year's E3, and that's thanks to its superb line up of upcoming games for the Wii and DS, and the reveal of the 3DS, the company's newest portable gaming system. Several 3rd part developers have already signed up to make games, including Konami and Hideo Kojima, who are remaking MGS3: Snake Eater for the new platform. Capcom is also introducing a brand new Resident Evil to Nintendo's new device, so that's more than enough, right? Wrong. There's another title they're releasing for the 3DS... and it's a portable version of Super Street Fighter IV!!!

That's right, Capcom is actually releasing SSFIV for the 3DS! Capcom Unity spilled the news, and upon reading the article, I was utterly shocked with disbelief. The iPhone already has a port of SFIV on the way, and now SSFIV comes to the 3DS?! Where's the PSP love these days? I'm still on the market for a 3DS, sure, but I'm surprised that Capcom went for that instead of Sony's portable device, which I think was built well to play most, if not all fighting games. Probably we'll be seeing a PSP version eventually (I hope), but this is still surprising news, and the game is tentatively called "Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition". I guess the SF IV series finally made it to a Nintendo platform, and if that's supposed to be initiative for me to grab the 3DS, by all means I will! In the meantime, visit Capcom Unity's post for more info and screens!

Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition is under development and the release date is TBA.

Video Game Review: Super Street Fighter IV

It's been about a month since this baby came out, and until now I still can't believe how much Shoryuken of awesomeness it's packing! Capcom never ceases to amaze me, and that's why I'll probably be a full fledged Street Fighter for the rest of my gaming days!

For a game that was originally meant to be an update, Super Street Fighter IV sure feels like the sequel fighting game fans have dreamed of and can consider a worthy successor to last year's Street Fighter IV. It comes packing with improvements, extras, additional characters, and even bonus stages, which makes it more than just a mere upgrade title, expanding the methods of play to undetermined numbers. The "SUPER" added in front isn't just for show. It's a statement that boasts perfection and gives credence to how superb this fighter really is in the gaming market today. Ten new challengers enter the fray with a lot of moves to dish out and punish opponents with, while the returning fighters show that they got a boost up or have been nerfed down for "understandable reasons" other than nutty poke jobs. Highlighting the new faces are Hakan and Juri, two new characters making their debut in SSFIV and showcasing interesting fighting styles, namely Turkish Oil Wrestling and Taekwondo respectively. The other eight are familiar faces from the series' history making their official jump to the 2.5D realm. Cody, Guy, and Adon return from the Alpha/ Zero series; Dudley, Makoto, and Ibuki charge straight out of the Street Fighter III universe; and T.Hawk and Dee Jay make their long awaited debut, finally reuniting with their SSFII comrades. That brings the tally for the entire roster to 35 characters, and that's quite a mouthful, especially when the variety adds a new dynamic to the already interesting brawl 'em up that Super Street Fighter IV is.

Super Street Fighter IV "New Characters and Features" Trailer

Now that we got the new hands on deck, there's plenty of hurting moves to explore in their arsenal, as well as from the veterans of the previous game. In addition to bringing the same old faces back in SSFIV, every character comes with the option of selecting between two Ultra combos. That means the strategy involved in playing certain characters involves a bit of tweaking and practice again, as it's a familiar yet whole different ball game this time around. That's not to say that playing fan favorites like Ryu and Ken will be harder in this game. Hadokens, Shoryukens, and Sonic Booms still work fine, and the dreaded Focus Attacks and Focus Cancels are still intact. However, there were adjustments made to certain characters that make their regular moves stronger or weaker, resolving some balancing issues and comments from the original game. It may come to some as a positive or disappointment, but that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes in fighting game updates, and in this case, fair's fair in "Hadouken and war" I say.

Other comments I'll have to make about SSFIV is that it's got a sturdier online service this time around. Street Fighter IV's online playability was widely praised for its accessibility last year, but there were a number of lag issues and missing modes that prevented it from truly dominating the competition. All that improves with SSFIV, as it introduces a number of new modes for online play in addition to an improved Ranked Match mode, namely Endless Battle and Team Battle, where you can fight against someone one-on-one infinitely or duke it out with friends online, arcade style. It's fun, addicting, and full of the kind of energy I used to feel whenever I played in the arcades of my youth and inserted tokens.

For $40 and packing quite a punch, Super Street Fighter IV is more than just an upgrade... it's a knock out hit that only Capcom could have presented and delivered to its fighting game market base. Anybody who adores the series or has a passion for fighting games such as myself should consider picking this one up. It'll make you leap off your seat and feel the burn, especially when you see Ryu deliver his swift new ultra, the Metsu Shoryuken, right to your opponent's face!

Welcome Back, EGM!!!

And so it begins... The Return Of The King Of American Video Game Magazines!

Back in January 2009, my heart sank completely when I learned that Electronic Gaming Monthly was no more. Its publisher, Ziff Davis, sold 1UP.com to UGO Entertainment, effectively putting to rest the magazine many fellow gamers and I have been reading since its inception on the summer of 1989. Unlike other competitors, EGM's strong point was its writing and content. The magazine contributed a lot to the gaming industry and its consumers by providing mostly first hand and exclusive content not seen anywhere else, becoming a dominant and trusted force in the video game community. Even with the advent and eventual expansion of the internet, the brand alone spoke volumes. It was a reliable source of information, reviews, and unbiased opinions from sincere and devoted people who were passionate about gaming in every sense of the word. From the moment I picked up the Megaman 2 issue in the late 80's to the time I actually believed in the April Fool's jokes they made (like the Sheng Long Street Fighter II trick), EGM was a brand that me and my fellow gamers could wholeheartedly rely on, until its unceremonious demise.

However, all was not lost.

In the eve of E3 2009, EGM writer and founder Steve Harris acquired the rights to publish EGM anew for both online and print mediums. The relaunch would occur sometime before or after the new year, and as part of the promotions, the "Lost" EGM issue, originally dated for a February 2009 release, was released online and appeared in the restructured website, EGMnow.com. Through the website, people can register and subscribe to EGMi - the digital magazine companion to the print medium we gamers all know and love. EGMi features exclusive content like video interviews and live page browsing that can only be experienced when you sign up.

I picked up my copy of the "New and Improved" EGM just today, and I must say, it feels good to be back reading a printed international magazine devoted entirely to gaming again. It's fitting that for the relaunch itself, the new issue focuses on Street Fighter once again, specifically on "The Street Fighter Legacy" and its impact on the fighting game industry, not to mention the latest installment in the series released by Capcom - "Super Street Fighter IV". In fact, the "Zombie Issue" sports two covers featuring SF stalwarts Ryu and Ken, and for this reunion, I picked the man with the headband just for the occasion. In addition to the emphasis on SF, the issue also includes a look back at EGM's past; An exclusive interview with God Of War/ Twisted Metal creator David Jaffe; And an inside look on games that were hyped and anticipated by many, like the recently released Xbox 360 exclusive Alan Wake. There's also some features and commentaries by many of the top writers and players in the gaming industry today, including content contributed by new guys like Marc Bozon (former IGN Editor), and by EGM veterans like Dan "Shoe" Hsu, Ryan O'Donnell, and... Sushi X!!! Of course, that means that we can't forget about the reviews... they're back as well! They're all present here again, with the numbering system and good, bad, and ugly commentary intact. As part of the synchronization process, the magazine comes with a unique "iPASS" code that brings on more exclusive content when you log in online and sign up!

With all that said and more to look forward to in the future, Electronic Gaming Monthly is truly back and here to stay. Reading this rebirth brings a tear to my eye... and fresh new smell of magazine goodness on my face. Anybody who knows the brand better get skipping to their nearest bookstore or magazine stand and pick up a copy now! EGM IS BACK PEOPLE! Spread the word!

Mini Review: Super Street Fighter IV: Collector's Package!

Finally! It's here!
After months of anticipation, disbelief, and excitement, Super Street Fighter IV has finally arrived for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, much to my delight and satisfaction! This game is still set to launch tomorrow in the U.S, but as luck would have it, us fans here in Asia get to enjoy the game a day early! As one of the must have titles on my list, I'm practically swooning over my latest purchase right now, and the fighter in me couldn't be any happier. I've been waiting for this baby for a long time... and now it's here at the palm of my hand! Plus, I didn't just grab the regular edition of the game, I got the Collector's Package! It's a wonderful treat and a true testament to the game's worth, since it includes extras the regular SF fan will definitely enjoy next to the game itself!

Packed with a copy of the game is a sweet looking character artbook, featuring the promotional images and illustrations of each of the 35 characters appearing in this update! Those who enjoy the brush art style the game exhibits will definitely like what they see, and it's all compiled into one mini booklet full of goodness!

What's more, the slip case with Ryu's mugshot on it is a two disc set piece - containing a Character Sound Collection Disc and a Promotional Video Disc. It's basically the game's soundtrack and commercials, so if you enjoy listening and viewing some of these extra, then Capcom has compiled together the perfect treats for you!

Finally, the game itself! Being a R3 Asian copy of the game, this official release of SSFIV gives players the standard game packed together with an instructional manual for reference. Anybody who sees the game's boxart will notice it's the North American design, but players have a choice over this matter, as they can simply flip the flyer in reverse and switch it to the Boxart design of the Japanese release of the game! It's a real treat, and one I definitely enjoy as it gives me free reign over what cover art I want to see. Also, anybody with a Asian PSN account will get a Downloadable Content voucher that allows them to access new alternate costume packs that can be used in the game, namely for specific characters like Gen and Guile.

Aside from what I've mentioned, there's not much else... except to dive straight into the game and play it to your heart's content! It's Street Fighter IV refined, improved, and given a whole lot of extras for 2010, including new modes, new characters, and additional moves to explore! I've already played through the game and tried out newbies like Hakan and returning favorites like Cody, so there's a lot riding here to get the fighter in you excited! Whether you fight against the CPU or play online, it doesn't really matter. This is Super Street Fighter IV, and it's time to take the fight to the next level! If you enjoy fighting games, this is definitely a must have!

Super Street Fighter IV Update: Awesome Fanart Skiils!

This isn't really an official update, but just looking at these awesome images makes me wish these made it to the official game! Capcom has a feature blog post up showcasing the amazing artwork of one of their Street Fighter forum members, who goes by the pseudonym KAiWAi. Here, the man crafts some amazing alternate costumes that is more than just a regular change of wardrobe, but they also pay tribute to several other Capcom characters from different games that have little or nothing to do at all with the SF Universe! Check out these ones, featuring Ken dressed as Apollo Justice from the Ace Attorney series, and Guy as the one and only futuristic ninja, Strider Hiryu!

Amazing outfits, right? Let's not forget about the ladies of course! Here's fan outfits made for Chun-Li and Sakura. The former is dressed in her Street Fighter Zero/ Alpha attire, while the latter schoolgirl takes up the tights of Maki from Final Fight 2!

Super Street Fighter IV Update: New Updates Away!

Super Street Fighter IV is getting the rave treatment before its release, and the excitement for it just got bigger! Blogged by Kotaku and announced at this recent Japanese Championship Tournament by producer Yoshinori Ono, the game will officially see an arcade release... well, in Japan first at least! The original Street Fighter IV also saw release as a coin-op prior to being ported and expanded in its console iterations, but SSFIV arcade will be a different affair, as it will be released side by side with the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, bringing the fight to a fair level for all brawlers out there! Fighting games were made for the arcade scene, and I'm happy and hoping that this baby will land in a mall nearby! To see Ono make the landmark announcement (in Japanese though), check out this video, and for more info, visit Kotaku!

Yoshinori Ono announces Super Street Fighter IV in the arcades!

While SSFIV expands its reach to other territories, let's not forget the console scene, where new marketing changes and additions have been made to promote the game's release. The North American version of the game had its box cover slightly altered, but nothing but a few cosmetic changes to what is considered to be the least favorite among the cover to cover bunch. Via Capcom's blog, take a look and see British boxer and SFIII veteran Dudley replacing Cammy in the final NA version of the boxart.

Finally, to cap things off, here's a brand new TV Spot promoting the game, with rapping and styling by rapper Just Blaze. Check it!
