Super Street Fighter II Turbo turned 25 years this weekend

One of the most prominent entries in Capcom's long running Street Fighter series just turned 25 this weekend, as Super Street Fighter II Turbo (also known as Super Street Fighter II X - Grand Master Challenge) was released back in arcades in Japan and North America on February 23, 1994. The game - one of the last real updates of Street Fighter II before it made its evolutionary jump to the Alpha/ Zero and Street Fighter III, was the first to introduce several mainstay concepts and changes in the series - including the "Super Meter", new character animations, and the debut of Akuma/ Gouki - the master of the Satsui No Hadou and the brother of Ryu and Ken's master, Gouken .

Despite getting successors and newer titles, SSF2T is still going strong in conventions, tournaments, and other events that host fighting games - with many pro fighting game players still preferring to play this game for the sake of nostalgia and other reasons. New "Street Fighter" TV Series coming from eOne and the makers of "Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist"

It's going to be a great 30 year celebration for Street Fighter fans worldwide as hype and excitement bring the series to new heights, and there's something more to celebrate as eOne and the makers of the critically acclaimed web series "Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist" are teaming up to create a brand new "Street Fighter" Television Series - one based on the classic hit "Street Fighter II: The World Warrior" - the very sequel that arguably ignited the entire fighting game world frenzy!

Via a report by Shoryuken.com (from Deadline), Joey Ansah, Jacqueline Quella, and Mark Wooding are teaming up with eOne to produce the series. Capcom's Yoshinori Ono - executive producer of the Street Fighter series, was delighted as well and shared a statement about the project:

"After a long search, guided by the team behind Assassin’s Fist, we are delighted to be partnering with a company with the outstanding TV experience of Mark Gordon and eOne. They have the credentials to help us launch a faithful adaptation of Street Fighter as a major TV series."

No word on when this new live-action Street Fighter television series comes out or what the title is, but it could be soon so stay tuned.

Happy 30th Anniversary, Street Fighter!

It's been a long time since we celebrated and shouted "HADOUKEN!", "SHORYUKEN!", or "SONIC BOOM!" with feeling, but August 30th is a good time to do so this year as it marks the 30TH ANNIVERSARY of "Street Fighter"!

Released on this day three decades ago, the original Street Fighter was not as popular as its 1991 sequel - with only two playable characters in Ryu and Ken and fighting different CPU controlled opponents until they reach the final boss in Sagat. This game would set many of the conventions and standards that would follow in later sequels and spin-offs, and by the time Street Fighter II arrived - the rest was HISTORY.

With so much happening and celebrations going on worldwide, Street Fighter has certainly evolved into a BIG FRANCHISE that while struggling with its own share of hits and misses - is undeniably THE most recognizable fighting game franchise of all time!

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers coming to Nintendo Switch this 2017

Timed to coincide with the latest revelation of details for Nintendo's upcoming new console hybrid in the "Nintendo Switch" - which hits markets worldwide on March 3, 2017, Capcom has officially unveiled their contribution to the line-up of games coming post-launch, and that is in the form of the retro new title called "Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers"!

Taking a cue from last console generation's release "Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix", Ultra Street Fighter II will contain all fighters from Super Street Fighter II Turbo, including Akuma, and give players the option to switch between old school graphics and the new HD graphics illustrated by UDON Entertainment. Additionally, two new fighters seen in other games will be added to the mix - Evil Ryu and Violent Ken - the dark versions of the two main Shoto protagonists of the Street Fighter series. The game honors Street Fighter's 30th Anniversary this year, and will feature online play as well as taking advantage of the Switch's handheld option and Joy-Con features.

Through the years, this man who trained alongside his best friend under their mentor Gouken has become a fan favorite of the series, and has evolved to embody traits of speedy, flashiness, and pure fiery determination in his fighting style. In fact, Street Fighter V will introduce a brand new look for Ken that will separate his appearance from Ryu all the more... And highlight new areas of his Ansatsuken skill set.

So what would happen when you pit the Kamehameha with the Hadouken? Pretty much something unmatched that goes OVER 9000 and would give Capcom's World Warriors the challenge of their lives.

Thanks to Gamebill Studios, we see Dragon Ball Z's own Son Goku taking on the characters of Street Fighter II, which include Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and just about everyone from the classic 1991 fighting game that pretty much started everything popular about fighting games.

OH.MY.GOD... STREET FIGHTER II IS TWENTY YEARS OLD?!

Yes, apparently it is. It's March 2011, and the game came out on March 1991... and now that Capcom-Unity was nice enough to point that out, I have to post down a tribute to celebrate this classic's birthday!

Ok, let me get my bearings and let that thought sink in. It's been two decades... TWO DECADES since this sucker hit arcades, and it literally changed my perception of video games entirely as soon as I laid my hands on it. I not only want to post just to commemorate 20 strong years of Hadoukens, Shoryukens, and Sonic Booms, but I also want to reminisce about how I came to love the experience and thrill of playing fighting games because of this masterpiece... and how it defined me as a gamer altogether until this very day.
