Captain America: Civil War: Steve Rogers is no longer Captain America
The end of Captain America: Civil War went through many things, but one of the most important outcomes was the split of the Avengers following the final confrontation of Captain America/ Steve Rogers and Iron Man/ Tony Stark. After discovering that his parents were murdered in the past by a then brainwashed Winter Soldier/ Bucky Barnes, Iron Man went on full attack mode and was only bested on the end by Cap. With Stark calling Steve unworthy of wielding the shield thanks to his actions and defending his best friend, Rogers dropped his signature weapon and walked off with the injured Bucky to parts unknown... And that scene officially that meant that he was no longer Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe according to the Russo Brothers.
Doing a press tour for the upcoming Blu-Ray/ DVD release of the film, the Russo Brothers explained to The Huffington Post why that moment meant what it meant and why Steve Rogers left his superhero name behind:
"I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity,” said Joe. “[It’s] him admitting that certainly, the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making.”
With plenty of deleted scenes (and yes even a gag reel) to look forward to, Captain America: Civil War hits digital on September 2 and on Blu-Ray/ DVD on September 13.
