Solo: A Star Wars Story, directed by Ron Howard, hits theaters this May.
Taking to Twitter itself to deliver a "special message" that reveals the official title of the next Star Wars spin-off movie, director Ron Howard has revealed that the untitled Han Solo film will be called "Solo: A Star Wars Story" - which continues the tradition started by 2016's "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and retains the name of the famous smuggler turned famed Rebel Alliance fighter of the original Star Wars Trilogy. Of course, "Solo" will be a prequel set in the early days of Han's career - and will be portrayed by Alden Ehrenreich.
In the aftermath of Phil Lord and Chris Miller's departure from directing the untitled "Han Solo" spin-off film for the Star Wars movie franchise, The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Lucasfilm and Disney have selected "Apollo 13" and "The Da Vinci Code" director Ron Howard as the new man to helm the film that features Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover as a younger Solo and Lando Calrissian, with Woody Harrelson and Emilia Clarke co-starring. After getting the part to direct the film, Howard tweeted his astonishment at getting the job - "I'm beyond grateful to add my voice to the Star Wars universe after being a fan since 5/25/77."
The Han Solo spin-off is set for release on May 25, 2018.
Looks like a certain spin-off film starring a famous "scruffy nerf herder" and smuggler from the Star Wars universe is going to need a new director handling his early adventure story, as Phil Lord and Chris Miller have stepped away from directing the Han Solo spin-off according to THR, parting ways with Lucasfilm and leaving the project without a helmer.
With the world focusing its attention on the inevitable release of the next canonical Star Wars chapter with "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" this December, the folks at Disney and Lucasfilm via the official Star Wars website saw it fit to tease everyone with their next spin-off project - that being a photo featuring the entire cast in the upcoming "Han Solo" spin-off hitting on 2018. Starring Alden Ehrenreich as the younger Han Solo, he will be joined by Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke,Donald Glover as a younger Lando Calrissian, Thandie Newton, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Joonas Suotamo steps in to be the big guy himself, Chewbacca. Filming commenced in February 20, and it's going to be well over a year til we see the smuggler and his early adventures in the big screen next year.
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the untitled Han Solo film will be released on May 25, 2018.
In what will certainly be news that will get Star Wars fans talking and thinking about what the future will bring now that Disney has decided on who'll be their younger version of a certain popular swindler and adventurer from a galaxy far, far away, The NY Post and Comic Book.com have reported that Alden Ehrenreich has been cast as the young Han Solo for the upcoming Star Wars spin-off and stand alone film.
While no details have been mentioned on what the film will be about, it will deal with Solo's life between the events of Episode III and IV, where everyone will get to know him before he became the heroic "scruffy nerf herder" originally played by Harrison Ford, friend to Luke Skywalker, and love interest to Princess Leia Organa.
The Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo film is slated for a May 25, 2018 release.
Not wasting any time in promoting the long awaited new chapter in a saga that happens in a galaxy far, far away, Disney and LucasFilm have released the brand new poster to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" - which pretty much features every prominent cast member from the new film set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi - with the poster featuring old Rebel Alliance heroes such as Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Chewbacca, as well as the newbies in Rey, Finn, and the new red lightsaber wielding character Kylo Ren. Missing in the poster is Luke Sywalker... But that is possibly an intentional thing to draw mystery... And the looming presence of a new weapon that "surpasses" the Death Star is in the background as well.
EDIT: Designed by Star Wars fan and Anakin Skywalker cosplayer Bryan Morton (which LOOKED like a Drew Struzan work), this new theatrical poster is the second one released, and coincides with the coming of a brand new trailer that hits with ESPN Monday Night Football. For now, a teaser has been released, found and featured thanks to Comic Book.com.

Since the BIG acquisition news of LucasFilm Ltd. by Disney for $4.05 Billion Dollars, the very next project and priority for the new merger is the next trilogy of Star Wars films. Confirmed for release on 2015, "Episode VII" already has a screenwriter on board in the form of Michael Arndt, who's credentials include Toy Story 3 and the next installment of The Hunger Games film series, Catching Fire. What was also rumored was that three of the key characters involved with the original Star Wars trilogy (Episode IV, V, and VI) were in talks to appear in the new "Disney era" film series, namely Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, and Han Solo. News from ENewsi and the Hollywood Reporter confirms that 2/3 of that trio will return.
