25 years ago, The Matrix was Released in Theaters

What is The Matrix?

That was the question most moviegoers asked when the film was released on March 31, 1999 in US theaters, and boy were they in for a surprise with this Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow release that was directed by The Wachowskis and starred Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, and Joe Pantoliano.

Helping revolutionize the action and sci-fi genre for Hollywood, The Matrix ultimately became a critical and commercial success - spawning three sequels and many spin-offs. It helped propel special effects use in cinema - especially with the use of “Bullet Time” as well as daring storytelling with the rise of the computer and digital age.

Happy Anniversary to The Matrix!

Rumor: Is this the "Man of Steel" Teaser Poster?

Like Comic Book Movie, I'm adding this to the rumor mill.

What you see here is what's being claimed to be THE "teaser poster" for Warner Bros. next Superman reboot flick, tentatively titled "Man of Steel". After weeks of big news highlights from the Zack Snyder directed film that includes Laurence Fishburne being cast as Perry White and the first official photo of Henry Cavill as Superman, this "teaser" shows up and is making the rounds in the interwebz. Despite the somewhat convincing layout and Batman Begins inspired set up, I'm not 100% about this at all. Judge for yourselves whether the "Grounded" inspired shot works as an official tease. "Man of Steel" won't fly into theaters worldwide until June 14, 2013!

Superman Reboot Update: Laurence Fishburne is Perry White!

Big news once again arrived in the doorstep of Superman fans anxiously waiting for news surrounding the Zack Snyder directed and Christopher Nolan produced Superman reboot flick by Warner Bros. that is tentatively being title "Man of Steel". According to a post in Slash Film, the role of Perry White, the EIC and head of the Metropolis Newspaper the Daily Planet, has been given to veteran African-American actor Laurence Fishburne!

Yes, coming off a related comic book twist revelation and news of a new version of Ultimate Spider-Man, we have a new version of Perry White, and an African-American one at that too. Regardless of the racial change, I'm all for it and Fishburne is an excellent actor. His resume is extensive when it comes to cool, collected, and authoritative figures, and people best remember him well as Morpheus from the Matrix films, a role that remains kick-ass to this day. This also won't be the first time a Supes character makes the switch, as Pete Ross was also portrayed as a African-American character in Smallville by Sam Jones III. It will be interesting to see how the dynamic plays in the Superman film reboot with Fishburne as Perry White. For more details on the story, visit the source post at Slash Film!

Contagion unleashes a terrifying trailer!

Warner Bros. has a lot of good films rolling out this fall, and one of them happens to be a movie that touches on a subject that is as real as it is scary. This September, Warner Bros. unleashes "Contagion", an action-thriller that focuses on the outbreak of a deadly virus and the threat it presents worldwide, with humanity responding to it

Directed by the man who gave us Erin Brockovich and the Ocean's trilogy of movies, Steven Soderbergh leads an all-star cast in the forms of Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Marion Cotillard, and Gwyneth Paltrow, and the delivery in the trailer by the stars alone lands quite a punch for those into suspense films with realistic tension in the air. Check out below via the embedded player.

Contagion Trailer

Much like any virus-themed movie (Outbreak, 28 Days Later), this one looks like it'll keep everyone on edge on what's going to happen next. Heck, the movie's not even out yet, and one major star is already killed off in this trailer! Can't wait for this one, so stay tuned for this after all the summer blockbusters have come and gone.
