Man Of Steel: Recut trailers add John Williams score

Following the release of two types of teaser trailers that feature voice overs of Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner) and Jor-El (Russell Crowe), someone in YouTube has actually done the amazing job of recutting and adding John Williams' signature score from the original 1978 Superman flick to very first trailer for Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder's Superman reboot film "Man Of Steel"!

Reactions to the TMNT reboot by Michael Bay...

By now, everyone around the world has probably heard the big news of Michael Bay's vision for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. Earlier this week, the Transformers film series director revealed his company Platinum Dunes was producing the new Heroes in a half shell flick during the Nickelodeon Upfront 2012 event... And he sent the entire Turtle fandom ablaze by saying something detailed in this video embedded below:




Michael Bay talks Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by stuffwelike

He said that "These Turtles are from an alien race."...

That was enough to spark a big outcry from fans everywhere. As a fan of TMNT myself since the 80's Fred Wolf animated series, I can't even begin to describe my reservations for the "new direction". It's funny how Bay gave his own twist on Transformers with the 3 movies he already did, and we all know how those turned out. The franchise still made millions of dollars regardless, and one has to wonder if he'll add babes and explosions to his vision of the once mutant turtles now turned "aliens".

New Line Cinema will reboot the Mortal Kombat film franchise

In the words of Raiden and Shang Tsung from the first Mortal Kombat movie of 1995: "IT HAS BEGUN!"

Looks like New Line Cinema is going ahead and rebooting the Mortal Kombat, bringing on Oren Uziel and Kevin Tancharoen as writer and director respectively. These men are the same guys responsible for bringing the highly successful web short "Mortal Kombat Rebirth" to the internet, and for those who don't know what that's about, it was an eight-minute feature released in June 2010 that reintroduced the premise of MK using a realistic and modern setting, featuring the likes of Michael Jai White as Jax, Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade, and Ian Anthony Dale as Scorpion. For those who haven't seen it, here's the feature itself below, just to give you a taste of what the new MK film might be like when it gets done.


Mortal Kombat Rebirth

With its success, Rebirth eventually spawned a 10 episode web series entitled "Mortal Kombat Legacy", which began airing last April, which was the same month that the new Mortal Kombat game by NetherWorld Studios and Warner Bros Interactive was released. Now, it looks like things paid off for Uziel and Tancharoen, as they've been given the green light to do a new movie that will reboot the franchise anew.

This means goodbye to the timeline set forth by Paul W.S. Anderson's Mortal Kombat movie of 1995, and while that is arguably still the best video game movie ever, I can't say the same for its sequel, Mortal Kombat Annihilation, which lived up to its tagline and "completely destroyed all expectations" by being a very bad film. For more news on the MK film reboot, visit the source posts at Slash Film, Deadline, and The Hollywood Reporter.

The DC Relaunch has begun!

The countdown is about to end, and the new age of DC Universe will be born! To commemorate this milestone event, User patrickhwilliams of YouTube has uploaded this fine video where star and comic geek Mike Curran pretty much sums up to Ariana Vacs Renwick what the changes are going to be in the reboot... And hilarity ensues as a result. Go and take a look!


The DC Relaunch

Love or hate it, history will be made in comics this day! The New 52 ushers in the DCnU! Go to your local comic book shop and start things off by picking up a copy of Justice League #1 (shown above) to commemorate the occasion!

Batgirl of DC the new 52: The Killing Joke happened!

One of my biggest reservations about this whole DC Reboot was the inevitable changes being made to many of its prominent characters, among them being the once paraplegic Barbara Gordon, who has once again been given the ability to walk and resume her original crimefighting role as Batgirl. While I am no doubt happy that Babs will be back wearing the cape and cowl once more, it left me a tad disappointed that the position that empowered her character ever further over the years would be left behind and possibly forgotten, and I'm referring to the role of Oracle, the freelance information broker and hacker of the superhero community. I feared that Alan Moore's contribution to the Batman legacy in paralyzing Barbara Gordon would be wiped off with a clean slate in the DCnU... But fortunately, my doubts were proven to be unfounded! History is retained in the semi-reboot, and as featured in this 6-page preview posted in the New York Post and Bleeding Cool, Babs history in "Batman: The Killing Joke" will be reflected back in the all-new Batgirl #1!

As you can see, the deed has been done, but Babs mobility with her legs has been restored! How that became possible isn't explained in this preview, but I'm sure we'll be getting the answer soon enough once the issue comes out this September! Superman Reboot Update: Laurence Fishburne is Perry White!

Big news once again arrived in the doorstep of Superman fans anxiously waiting for news surrounding the Zack Snyder directed and Christopher Nolan produced Superman reboot flick by Warner Bros. that is tentatively being title "Man of Steel". According to a post in Slash Film, the role of Perry White, the EIC and head of the Metropolis Newspaper the Daily Planet, has been given to veteran African-American actor Laurence Fishburne!

Yes, coming off a related comic book twist revelation and news of a new version of Ultimate Spider-Man, we have a new version of Perry White, and an African-American one at that too. Regardless of the racial change, I'm all for it and Fishburne is an excellent actor. His resume is extensive when it comes to cool, collected, and authoritative figures, and people best remember him well as Morpheus from the Matrix films, a role that remains kick-ass to this day. This also won't be the first time a Supes character makes the switch, as Pete Ross was also portrayed as a African-American character in Smallville by Sam Jones III. It will be interesting to see how the dynamic plays in the Superman film reboot with Fishburne as Perry White. For more details on the story, visit the source post at Slash Film!

DC Reboot Update: Full look at "NEW" Superman in Action Comics #1

If there's anything to feel awkward about the forthcoming DC Reboot, this new reveal presented by DC Comics and the New York Post of the cover to Action Comics #1 probably takes the cake:

Ok, let's take a moment to ponder and analyze this entire cover pic.

It's the new look of Superman.

He's wearing a classic blue "S" symbol T-Shirt.

He has a short cape.

He's wearing a regular pair of jeans and shoes.

How the heck this got approved to usher in the DC Reboot is beyond me and most of the DC fanbase. While the focus in this book is being justified as a "Year One" concept for Supes, I'm not too sold on the "half-assed"Supes outfit. It looks too much like one of those T-Shirts you can buy off the department store, and all you need is a red towel and you're good to go... in an awkward sort of way.

Granted, the good news is that the book will be written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Rags Morales, but this "new look" of Superman does the opposite of making me excited about reading this book based on DC's iconic superhero. I know this version of Clark Kent is actually his "past self", when he was still learning to control his powers and didn't have the ability to fly yet, but why couldn't they take a different approach at tailoring his costume, let alone NOT give him a costume at all? I know they're taking a page out of Tom Welling and his portrayal of a younger Supes from Smallville, but this is just a downright silly look for the Man of Steel. Heck, it reminds me so much of a Super Friends episode where Superman regressed to a child again (due to Red Kryptonite) and Firestorm used his powers to make his costume fit his age at the time. When he finally turned back, you can just imagine how tight fitting and small his costume was, and that's the feeling I get from this new costume. Well, one can only hope there's a good reason why Kal-El looks like this and why his marriage to Lois Lane had to go down south like Spider-Man's did a few years ago, but that's the repercussions of the DC Reboot for you. DC Comics reveals the full newly redesigned look of the Justice League.

Jim Lee's picture of the fully redesigned look of the Justice League of America leaked and broke all over the comic news spectrum, as sites like Newsarama and Comic Book Resources have featured it in their respective websites. You can take a look at the full pic below, which is the spred cover to issue # 2 of the soon to be relaunched Justice League series.

Penny for your thoughts? We've already seen the new lineup's look before courtesy of the cover to issue #1 when the DC Comics Reboot was first announced, but this is the first time we're actually seeing the entire league's redesign from head to toe, as they stand together tall and proud. First Look: DC Reboot's Flash #1 cover!

While I do have my reservations about the impending DC Reboot, there's no denying that I still love good artwork when I see it. That's exactly what artist Francis Manapul provides here with this first look at the cover to the newly relaunched first issue of "The Flash". Along with the rest of the DC Universe's heroes post Flashpoint, Barry Allen will be getting a new #1 title and a newly redesigned costume, which looks very 90's inspired and has traces of Wally West's costume design as well. This is one of the few reboot adjustments I don't mind, but seeing as how years of continuity are going to literally go down the drain with many titles, it's still hard coming to terms with the inevitable relaunch in a few months time. DC Reboot Changes: The Superman Titles...

Alright, I know there's a line divided between people's opinions about DC Comics' imminent reboot come September, and everyone's entitled to their own opinions. However, since I'm a bonafide "Post-Crisis" reader and one who grew up appreciating certain characters retaining classic looks and costumes, I wasn't expecting EVERY HERO to get a mandatory update in their fashion wear. Case in point, Superman himself and his circle undergoes the reboot and revision treatment, and while I'm thankful he still has the overall red, yellow, and blue and basic S Shield, I am not pleased with the "90's Renaissance" styled makeover. Again, this is just me voicing my own concerns, and regardless of what I think, these changes will happen. Let's take a look at the Superman titles revealed as posted in DC The Source and Newsarama.

Action Comics #1 presents us with a very SIMPLE LOOK of the Superman costume. It's basically a S T-Shirt with a short cape, and he's wearing Farmer's pants and clothes. I guess this symbolizes his "very first outing" as Superman in the title, reintroducing us to his origin where he doesn't have a complete costume to go and kick ass with. Thankfully, the writing duties will be handled by the legendary Grant Morrison (Batman, All-Star Superman), and illustrated by Rag Morales. This one is ok in my book so far, but I can't say the same for the other big Supes book.

Superman #1, written by the legend George Perez and illustrated by Jesus Merino, is one book I'm trying to find some a shred of optimism in. First off, the new costume bothers me, and as a friend of mine best described it, it feels like "overaccessorizing" the Man of Steel too much. The lines and futuristic weren't necessary, and it looks like a concept straight from "Reign of the Supermen". Possibly they did this to emphasize his Kryptonian roots, but it makes me miss the classic look all the more. The solicit also states a new "status quo" that will affect Superman's circle. Supposedly it may refer to him being single again, but that's expected already.

I don't know what to make of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. I've long appreciated, admired, and loved the look created and illustrated by the late great Michael Turner, and this change is hard to appreciate. However, a lot of people seem to take to it, save for the holes in the knee pad area. Given that Power Girl is nowhere to be found as of the moment, I surmise that Kara and Karen have merged to form the rebooted Supergirl. I may be wrong, but her smile echoes PG a lot. Supergirl #1 will be written by the duo of Michael Green and Mike Johnson, with art duties falling to Mahmud Asrar.

Ah Superboy, I hardly knew ye. So many changes to the look of Conner Kent over the years, and just when I already settle down with the modern "Black T-Shirt and jeans" look, here comes the reboot and, as a dear friend put it, a very "Ghost in the Shell" design. I dunno if I can adjust to these changes, but maybe some will be more open to this than I am. Superboy #1 will be written by Scott Lobdell and illustrated by R.B. Silva and Rob Lean.

Well, there you have it with the Superman titles. I'm getting more discouraged by what I see, but I'm trying my darn best to be optimistic about these changes. The company's co-publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee have ushered in a new age which will certainly alienate fans of the classic looks and origins, but it will definitely entice new readers into the new DC Universe. DC Reboot Misgivings...

While the DC Reboot news continues to make waves and shock viewers with its announcements, I can't help but feel more disappointed with most of my favorite characters undergoing unnecessary changes, case in point being members of the Bat-Family. While Bruce Wayne is going back to patrolling Gotham as its one and only Dark Knight, his proteges are a different story. Some have regressed back to roles that were once highlights of their career, while others have simply established new trends in their status quo. I don't know if that will work for the most part, but you'd best take a look for yourselves what I mean...

First up, Dick Grayson returns to the role that he established for himself and made iconic: Nightwing. While I have no problems about seeing Dick back in this guise, I can't say I won't be missing his tenure as Batman II. He did pretty well there, and even if Damien Wayne remains as Robin alongside Bruce, the dynamic won't be the same... EVER. Heck, I'm surprised they coughed up this "new" getup for him... It just doesn't look or feel right. If there's one thing about the DC Reboot I can say, it's "never change what already works", and they get minus points for this look for Grayson.

WHAT? BARBARA GORDON WALKS AGAIN?! I mean I loved her as Batgirl and all... BUT SHE BECAME BETTER AND A MORE EMPOWERED WOMAN BECAUSE OF HER TENURE AS ORACLE! This is so wrong on so many levels, and even one writer via Newsarama voiced out her disappointment over this big change in continuity. Barbara should have remained as Oracle through and through, and heck, there's Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown who can take up the mantle of Batgirl! What happens to them now? I'm afraid to find out the answer to my own question.

That... is... RED ROBIN!? Tim Drake turned over the Kingdom Come costume for THIS?! Again, I cannot express my disappointment, and even the other Teen Titans seem to be experiencing a "90's renaissance makeover" with the changes effected by DC. No words can be said here.

I guess the only one to come out decent and fair is Jason Todd. At least he gets to stick on as Red Hood and team up together with Arsenal and Starfire! Wonder how that happened, but I guess DC wants to redeem these guys and give them roles in their rebooted universe.

With the negatives outweighing the positives, I can't say I'm too happy with what I'm seeing here for the DC Reboot. There's a lot here to make me pack my bags and finally retire from my DC Comic collection, but I'll just have to give it the benefit of the doubt for now and see why these changes were enacted. I'm holding my breath here. This is worse than Spider-Man's One More Day storyline altogether, and speaking of that storyline's repercussions, a certain Man of Steel could become single again.

DC Comics unleashes more Batman reboot books!

Following the previous post's news, Looks like Detective Comics #1 and Batman #1 won't be the only batbooks coming out of the DC reboot phase, as there are two additional titles added to the roster readers can expect this September: Batman and Robin #1, and Batman: The Dark Knight #1. Via The Source, we get a glimpse and good look at these books and what they have to offer to readers of the Caped Crusader.

In Batman and Robin #1, written by Peter Tomasi and illustrated by Pat Gleason, Bruce Wayne/ Batman will team up with his son, Damien, as they protect the streets of Gotham as Batman and Robin!

Sadly, this means there's two brooding vigilantes now, and since Dick Grayson won't be Batman anymore, no reverse of the Dynamic Duo combination either. I'm gonna miss Dick Bats all the more...

The other new book, Batman: The Dark Knight #1, will be helmed by David Finch will write and illustrate Bruce Wayne's alter ego as he explores the innards of Arkham Asylum! Collaborating with Finch on pencils will be Jay Fabok, so expect more dynamic illustrations with the new book!

DC Comics reveals Batman #1 and Detective Comics #1!

The recent news of DC Comics rebooting their entire continuity was both a shocker and disappointment to most comic book readers out there, including myself. The fact that FLASHPOINT's outcome will spell the end of certain storylines and established continuities leaves a bitter taste for the dedicated fanbase, and I find myself mourning the loss of certain books, including that of a certain Dark Knight.

However, I can't deny the fact that I am somewhat excited with the reboot of a certain character I've come to love and respect over the years... And that is none other than DC Comics' one and only dark detective, The Batman.

Yes folks, DC Comics has officially revealed the covers and details for their relaunch of Batman #1 and Detective Comics #1! As posted in DC's The Source Blog, the two original books solely dedicated to the Caped Crusader will join the reboot list, and reveals that Bruce Wayne will be THE ONE AND ONLY Batman once more (so long Batman Inc. It was fun while it lasted. *sad face*)

In the first Batman #1 since 1930, Scott Snyder will team up with new artist Greg Capullo, as they chronicle the adventures of the one and only Batman, Bruce Wayne!

In the new Detective Comics #1, Tony Daniel will pull off double duty once again, bringing Batman to life anew as he tracks down a serial killer known only as the Gotham Ripper!

Superman Reboot Update: First Official Photo Revealed!

Movie news blog site Movietimez has featured the first official photo from Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder's upcoming reboot flick of the Superman film franchise, Man of Steel! In it, Henry Cavill and Amy Adams are seen for the first time as Clark Kent and Lois Lane, sharing an awkward moment that has the Superman's civilian self placing eyeglasses on his fellow Daily planet reporter and love interest! Justice League #1: The Full Cover revealed!

Via Comic Book Resources, here is the full cover to Justice League #1, written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Jim Lee. The issue, launching this August 31st, will be the first of a series of about 52 titles to be relaunched for DC Comics new initiative to "reboot titles for the modern age". More details can be picked up from the links on my previous post, or you can simply visit the source with additional information from CBR.

What you see above is also the new redesigns for the costumes of DC's greatest heroes in the Justice League. Geoff Johns certainly wasn't kidding when he said "Everything you know will change in a flash" via Flashpoint, and now we know the answer on what will happen AFTER Flashpoint ends. New looks all around for Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Cyborg (as illustrated b Jim Lee), and it's looking like the 90's for some all over again. Well, we'll just have to wait and see how everything goes.

DC Comics reboots their continuity, with landmark day digital distribution!

Looks like the rumors weren't kidding after all... And what news to kick off the first day of June!

Via USA Today and their own blog The Source, DC Comics has officially announced that beginning this 31st of August, most of their titles will be renumbered and restructured to be released on the same day both in print and digital media altogether. Through its 76-year long history of publishing characters like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and The Flash, the company will revamp their titles for "a more modern and diverse 21st century"

The first book announced and to be launched in this new #1 direction will be Justice League #1, to be written by DC Entertainment scribe and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, while illustrations will be handled by DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee. This will be the only issue, aside from the final issue of Flashpoint (the storyline the ends the old DC universe continuity and brings forth the new), that will see publication on August 31, offering a new beginning for new and contemporary DC readers to catch up on. David Slade promises official word on "Daredevil" this week.

Rumors have persisted that a reboot on "Daredevil" was inevitably going to happen, and it appears that director David Slade will be making a big announcement regarding the project sometime this week. Having been chosen to direct the film, the man who directed 30 Days of Night and Twilight: Eclipse (the third film in the Twilight franchise) is shouldered with a lot of expectations from fans and the studio, Twentieth Century Fox alike. While he hasn't given any confirmation as who will be starring, the lead role of Matt Murdock is speculated to have potential candidates already, in the form of Twilight star Robert Pattison and Garrett Hedlund. Rumor: DC rebooting the DCU?

Rumors have been swirling that DC is planning to reboot their ENTIRE universe once their newest Flash-centric event, Flashpoint, screeches to a halt and leaves definite changes in its aftermath. With that prospect, what's the sense of restoring certain characters and their status quo after everything that transpired in the pages of Blackest Night and Brightest Day? Comic news blog site Newsarama has an interesting post regarding the matter, and even though I'm not collecting the newest crossover event once again penned by writer Geoff Johns, my eye hasn't escaped the events transpiring right there and now. One can only hope that the DCU doesn't change completely and the new #1 issues to be a reboot for established characters. I'm enjoying my "Batman Inc." Spider-Man Reboot Update: Set photos reveal Oscorp in the movie!

Set photos have appeared online in sites like Slash Film showing off new developments in Marc Webb's upcoming Spider-Man flick - "The Amazing Spider-Man"! Aside from the fact that the reboot will focus more on Peter Parker's high school life and have him fight The Lizard, little is know about the actual story. However, the new set pics shot in NYC may shed some light into the mystery, as the "Oscorp" logo appears prominently in one of them. That means that Norman Osborn, aka The Green Goblin, may factor into the movie somehow. We'll just have to wait and see when more details sprout out in the coming months. Superman Reboot Update: Amy Adams is Lois Lane!

Fresh from her appearance in the award winning 2010 boxing flick "The Fighter", it appears that Amy Adams has landed herself another big supporting character role, this time as the love interest of Clark Kent/ Superman, Lois Lane, in Zack Snyder's upcoming 2012 reboot of the Superman film franchise!

According to a post in the LA Times' Hero Complex and Enewsi, director Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. have chosen Adams as their woman to play the top female ace reporter from the Daily Planet, who makes it her mission to follow and write stories based on the Man of Steel's exploits, eventually becoming involved in Superman's life personally and romantically. The news is kinda ironic when you think about it, seeing as Amy Adams worked with Christian Bale in The Fighter, and the English actor plays Batman in the Christopher Nolan Bat-flicks! This is big news indeed, and with names like Henry Cavill as Superman, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, this may be the biggest Superman movie yet!
