Ben Affleck made the right choice to prioritize himself and rehab over "The Batman"

I made this comment over at several outlets in Facebook sharing the story from The New York Times, where Academy Award winning director, writer, and actor Ben Affleck got candid about his alcoholism and deciding to drop directing AND starring in "The Batman":

“Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.” Cheesy as that line from Batman Begins sounds, it applies to Ben Affleck - and kudos to him for prioritizing himself and rehab. Much as I enjoyed his Bruce Wayne and Batman - the best balanced performance I have seen of both roles, he made the right choice to step away - and now that Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves are making “The Batman”, no more pressure unto him. I hope he recovers and wish him well.🦇

That certainly applies on this post and my personal thoughts on the man who has starred in three films as The Caped Crusader - namely 2016's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", a short cameo appearance in "Suicide Squad" released the same year, and finally in 2017 "Justice League". Ever since he was cast in 2013 to play the new Gotham vigilante in live action after Christian Bale in "The Dark Knight Trilogy",the casting initially got a lot of flack and criticism. Soon as BvS hit in 2016, that changed and we saw arguably one of the best film Batman actors in the big screen.

Despite giving one of the most impressive performances in recent memory as The Dark Knight - things just took a toll on the man and his personal life was the worse for wear. His struggles with the aforementioned alcoholism problem are well documented, but it's also his divorce to ex-wife Jennifer Garner that he calls "his biggest regret" and something that has plagued the actor through a string of troubles and unwanted attention by the media. The problems were only exacerbated by failures and disappointments - not just with the troubled production and output of "Justice League"  (which saw Zack Snyder drop out due to family tragedy and Joss Whedon taking over to produce a little than mediocre team film), but also his last directorial and starring feature in "Live By Night" - which turned into a box office bomb. As the New York Times article quoted, Affleck's friend read "The Batman" script and said to him: ‘I think the script is good. I also think you’ll drink yourself to death if you go through what you just went through again.’”

Ironically enough, February 19th is considered Bruce Wayne's birthday is some fictional accounts in DC history and lore. Much as we'd like to think he's infallible, Ben Affleck is definitely human and flawed just like Batman - he made the right call to step away and give Matt Reeves the keys to "The Batman" and subsequently Robert Pattinson to step in and play a younger version of The Dark Knight. We all make mistakes in life and fall on our feet, and it's learning to pick ourselves up and find redemption that'll make us stronger and go back to a better place. The man has a new film called "The Way Back" coming up next month that hits closer to home and follows a basketball coach struggling with the very same inner demons and alcohol troubles. Perhaps someday, the Bat signal will shine again and we'll see Ben put on the cape and cowl once more.

The Death of Superman: 25 Years Later and beyond

As Justice League finally plays in theaters - comic book fans will remember this particular time of November about 25 years ago as a sad and unprecedented moment in comic book history - DC Comics killing off one of their flagship characters in the Man of Steel himself - Superman. As the final issue of the eponymous storyline of the same name that ran through the four Superman titles at the time - Action Comics, Adventures of Superman, Superman: The Man of Steel, and Superman - "Superman #75" saw the Justice League of America dealing with an unstoppable monstrous beast named "Doomsday" who all but crushed every single member of the superhero team. It was left up to Superman himself to try and stop the alien creature once and for all - culminating in a showdown that saw both combatants deliver death blows to one another and the Last Son of Krypton dying in the arms of the love of his life, Lois Lane.

As a storyline, The Death of Superman sent shockwaves across the comic industry - particularly to fans of the Man of Steel over how one of the world's greatest heroes could perish and what the fallout would be in the DC Universe following his death. The Superman titles would continue and show this aftermath with "Funeral for a Friend", followed by four mysterious Supermen appearing and claiming to be the hero in "Reign of the Supermen". Finally, the one true Clark Kent/ Kal-El/ Superman did return at the end of the latter storyline - and the entire saga was collected years later and titled as "The Death and Return of Superman".

As an iconic yet sad moment in DC history, The Death of Superman was adapted into a DC Animated Movie feature and was eventually used as the final act in 2016's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" - where Henry Cavill's Man of Steel ultimately gave his life to stop Lex Luthor's Doomsday creation. This act would inspire Ben Affleck's Batman and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman to go and find other metahumans to form the "Justice League". How does Superman come back in the DC Extended Universe? That's for you to find out in cinemas!

Also, there's Doomsday Clock happening this week, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Supes' death and it just so happens that the Man of Steel figures in this "Watchmen" themed event and it has the word of his killer in the title. How that plays out? We shall see when the story begins on November 22nd.

Happy 45th Birthday Ben Affleck, aka Batman!

Today marks a special occasion for Hollywood and Batman fans, as August 15th marks the 45th birthday of Academy Award winning director and actor Ben Affleck - who plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne and Batman in the DC Extended Universe since his debut on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice last year.

Announced to play the new version of the Caped Crusader on the DCEU nearly four years ago this month, Affleck's casting was met with criticism and backlash from just about everyone in the comic and movie world - until he debuted in BvS and quickly proved to be one of the main highlights of that film. Accepted and pretty much playing one of the best interpretations of the DC Comics character in the big screen, Affleck would reprise his role as Bruce Wayne and Bats in a cameo role in 2016's Suicide Squad. His next full appearance will be alongside the rest of the Metahuman team he and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman are gathering together in "Justice League".

To commemorate his performance, here's a featurette on Batman/ Bruce Wayne from the BvS special features included on the Blu-Ray and Digital releases.

Ben Affleck named as "Executive Producer" for Justice League

It looks like in addition to his duties as a certain Billionaire and Dark Knight, Ben Affleck is going to take a major role moving forward with the upcoming "Justice League" film Warner Bros. is currently filming with Zack Snyder back in the director's chair.

According to Deadline and Comic Book Movie, the move was done apparently to help "steer the movie in the right direction", and add "Justice League braintrust" in helping making the film the best it can be. This news follows after many critics and fans have had mixed reviews on BvS, and it appears that WB is adding Affleck to the main creative team roster with his track record for success after winning big with Argo and The Town - both films he has directed and starred in. Here's hoping that whatever happens, it will only strengthen and make the road to "Justice League" all the more epic.

Justice League is currently filming and is slated to be released in theaters on November 16, 2017.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: Conan gives "The Real Reason" why Bats and Supes are fighting

During a guest appearance at the Conan O'Brien show, the cast and director of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" lined up to talk and promote the newly released superhero movie - which has already grossed half a billion dollars worldwide since it was released on March 25th. Conan however had a more serious question to answer however, and that was "Why are Batman and Superman fighting"?

The strange answer has something to do with Ben Affleck (Bruce Wayne/ Batman) and Diane Lane (Martha Kent), who once starred together in the film "Hollywoodland" - where the two had a intimate moment onscreen. Lane of course plays Henry Cavill/ Superman's mom, so the reactions here in this video clip are quite hilarious... And because it's April Fools Day too, Conan can be quite the prankster.

Batman v Superman: Ben Affleck explains how playing Batman was "daunting"

In many ways, Ben Affleck being cast as Batman a couple of years ago for the DC Films epic "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" was not in the forefront of anyone's mind, least of all the Academy Award winning actor and director of Argo himself. However when the announcement broke out in 2013 and he was officially tapped to play an older and more hardened Dark Knight, there was a lot of mixed reactions from the world... UNTIL footage and pics of what is now dubbed "Batfleck" appeared online and quelled any doubts or misconceptions. This is a Batman that is truly going to change the way we perceive the Caped Crusader in cinema henceforth... And we only have a few weeks to go until the film hits!

Now during a press tour visit in Beijing this weekend to promote BvS alongside Superman actor Henry Cavill and director Zack Snyder, Ben Affleck explained that playing Batman was a "daunting aspect" that made playing the character a challenge to him. A video caught by the Associated press highlights the man's explanation on playing the new Caped Crusader of the big screen.

In the new pic above (c/o Comedy Central and Batman-News), Ben Affleck's Batman is battle-damaged with his armor broken... But is putting his best foot forward and standing seemingly triumphant over Superman.
