Leslie Grace wins the role of Batgirl for upcoming movie by Warner Bros. and DC Films

Looks like Warner Bros. and DC Films have found their new Batgirl, as "Into The Heights" star and singer/ actress Leslie Grace has been chosen for the role of Barbara Gordon and her alter ego. 

As Deadline reports - grace underwent a screen test this week along with several other candidates for the role of Batgirl and emerged the favorite choice. She will be starring in the movie to be directed by "Bad Boys For Life" directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah - and it will be released on HBO Max some time down the line.

DC reschedules Batman: Three Jokers #1 to August

Before the corona virus pandemic threw many plans and businesses into disarray and postponement, DC Comics was finally set to release Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok’s long awaited Batman and Joker story “Batman: Three Jokers” into the world starting with the first issue solicited for a June 2020 release. Unfortunately, those plans did not hold up and now DC Comics has confirmed in their official website that the title will now be rescheduled for release this coming August instead.

 

Adding some new artwork teases to the article, the news of the Three Jokers delay is no surprise given the decision to halt distribution of titles by Diamond Comic Distributors over a month ago w/ the pandemic concerns happening worldwide. DC and other publishers are slowly returning to distribution beginning later this month, but with that comes the inevitable rescheduling of titles - Three Jokers included. It’s a story that has been teased and brewing since DC Rebirth began and revealed to readers that more that one man is walking around as the Clown Prince of Crime, and the new three issue storyline will tell what exactly this means and it will involve Batman, Batgirl, and Red Hood - three members of the Bat Family who have been greatly affected by the Joker’s presence one way or another.

Batman: Three Jokers will now be released on August 25 in comic shops worldwide.

Jason Fabok teases "Batman: Three Jokers" anew with a bloody crowbar wielding Joker

It's been some time since comic book fans have heard anything from Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok's upcoming DC Black Label series "Batman: Three Jokers" - but Fabok took to his social media pages Facebook and Twitter and shared a brand new image of one of the versions of the Clown Prince of Crime that will be appearing in the book. The image shows the Joker of the late 1980's era - holding a bloody crowbar - which is a reference to the time he brutally beat and then subsequently killed the second Robin, Jason Todd. That is considered one of the greatest failures Batman has ever experienced, and evidently the past is coming back to haunt him and his family again in the new story to come.

While there hasn't been much information about this upcoming series, what is known is that the story will focus on the aforementioned three Jokers as well as Bruce Wayne/ Batman, Barbara Gordon/ Batgirl, and Jason Todd/ Red Hood - all three who have traumatic encounters and history with the laughing lunatic from Gotham City.

DC The New 52: Batgirl gets a new costume and creative team this October

October is looking to spark many changes in the world of DC Comics, and after news that Selina Kyle will sport a new look and creative team beginning with Catwoman #35, the one and only Barbara Gordon looks to follow suit as a new team steps in to introduce a "Version 2.0" for the female member of the Bat Family starting in that month's Batgirl #35.

In a report by MTV News and reported by Bleeding Cool as well, current and longtime Batgirl and Birds of Prey writer Gail Simone is apparently stepping down from her role as the main writer. After the brief time she was removed and then reinstated thanks to the voices of fans worldwide, it seems that DC is ready to take new people to tackle the former Oracle - with Cameron Stewart and Blender Fletcher handling writing duties while Babs Tarr handles art duties.

And with the creative change comes a shift in focus for Barbara and a new direction - She moves to the Buroughs for graduate school, and she seemingly is going to get a new costume as well - which looks more hipster and less spandex oriented. These alterations come with what happens in the story, and whether these changes bode well or not, it's a new start for Babs more or less in the New 52 Universe of DC Comics, as well as coming during the 75th Anniversary of her mentor and inspiration, The Batman. Batgirl #35 goes on sale on October 8!

DC Comics reveals Batgirl's look & Nightwing's role in the New 52 "Zero Year" story

With Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's latest Batman story arc "Zero Year" going strong with the first two issues and attempting to properly explain the origins of The Dark Knight in the New 52 Universe, DC Comics steps up things in the game by giving fans a first look at how Batgirl/ Barbara Gordon will look during the early years of Batman's career.

Looking drastically different and more on the style of a vigilante crime-fighter in the making, Barbara will be appearing in a very un-Batgirl way in the tie-in Batgirl story that compliments Zero Year, sporting a suit that sees her starting down her path to becoming a fellow winged avenger alongside Gotham City's Dark Knight Defender. According to DC's E-i-C Bob Harris, she'll be forced to defend her home and brother James Gordon Jr. when they're attacked, and through the experience realize her potential to make a difference and protect what she cares for in a new kind of way. The Batgirl tie-in will be written by Marguerite Benett, and illustrated by Fernando Pasarin and Jonathan Galapion. More info can be seen via the source posts at DC Comics.com and Newsarama.


Other titles will also bring in a "Zero Year" feel to them, including Batman's first sidekick and protege Dick Grayson, aka the first Robin and present day Nightwing. In his own series, the tie in will explore Dick's time a year prior to his parents' death, and see where the "Flying Graysons" figure during the events of "Zero Year". Batgirl of DC the new 52: The Killing Joke happened!

One of my biggest reservations about this whole DC Reboot was the inevitable changes being made to many of its prominent characters, among them being the once paraplegic Barbara Gordon, who has once again been given the ability to walk and resume her original crimefighting role as Batgirl. While I am no doubt happy that Babs will be back wearing the cape and cowl once more, it left me a tad disappointed that the position that empowered her character ever further over the years would be left behind and possibly forgotten, and I'm referring to the role of Oracle, the freelance information broker and hacker of the superhero community. I feared that Alan Moore's contribution to the Batman legacy in paralyzing Barbara Gordon would be wiped off with a clean slate in the DCnU... But fortunately, my doubts were proven to be unfounded! History is retained in the semi-reboot, and as featured in this 6-page preview posted in the New York Post and Bleeding Cool, Babs history in "Batman: The Killing Joke" will be reflected back in the all-new Batgirl #1!

As you can see, the deed has been done, but Babs mobility with her legs has been restored! How that became possible isn't explained in this preview, but I'm sure we'll be getting the answer soon enough once the issue comes out this September!
