Hal Jordan returns to the GL Corps with DC Rebirth's upcoming "Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps"

The one who stated the whole "Rebirth" stint years before is getting another one. The self-imposed exile will be finished and the time of wielding the power gauntlet shall be done... As Hal Jordan will return to the Green Lantern Corps during the events of the upcoming "Rebirth" event DC Comics has planned and will star in a new ongoing series called "Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps", which will be written by Robert Venditti and pencillers Ethan Van Sciver and Rafa Sandoval.

How Hal returns is still a mystery... But it will all boil down to what happens in this May's "DC Comics Rebirth Special" and the conclusion of the current run of Green Lantern when he still wields the power gauntlet that once belonged to the rogue Oan Krona. DC Comics: Green Lantern/ Red Lanterns #28 cover reveals Supergirl... As a Red Lantern

The latest DC Comics Solicitations for February 2014 have revealed some surprising twists and changes to come, and on the side of Green Lantern, there's going to be a special "combo issue" for issue #28 of both "Green Lantern" and "Red Lanterns", tying the two books together to tell a tale that is rather surprising and strange... Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, becoming a Red Lantern?! After Hal Jordan and his Green Lanterns make a bargain with Guy Gardner and his Red Lanterns, Sector 2814 comes under threat, and these unlikely allies will have to work together... One way or the other!

Fanmade: Idris Elba as Green Lantern John Stewart

This is a fanmade poster mock-up that caught eyes and was featured in DC Cinematic Universe's Facebook Page. Given the fact that Ryan Reynolds played Hal Jordan and Mark Strong as Sinestro in the 2011 live action Green Lantern film, one can only wonder what could have been if there was an actual follow-up/ sequel that improved on the first's flaws and mistakes.

This would probably be one of them... The pitch is sound, and it actually works!

DC Comics: New 52 "Green Lantern" June 2013 titles bring back Emotional Spectrum freebie rings!

Those who missed it the first time around, good news - DC Comics is bringing the rainbow brigade rings back for The New 52!

In an effort to promote the new creative team shuffle that will be taking place with June 2013's Green Lantern titles, DC Comics is once again unleashing the free Green Lantern themed rings that make up all the colors of the Emotional Spectrum! However, instead of being glossy this time around, the rings will have matte finish to them.

Starting with Green Lantern #21, the Green Lantern Ring will be bundled with the issue, followed by the other colors packed with the successive GL related titles until all 9 are complete. For more information, visit the source post at Bleeding Cool!

2 DC Comics writers leave books... And DC planned to kill off a Major Green Lantern character?

The comic community around interwebz has been abuzz lately, with the news of certain writers and talents of DC Comics leaving some of their books on The New 52 over creative differences.

New Action Comics' scribe Andy Diggle has walked out of the Superman book way before his first issue came out, announcing it on his official Twitter Page and the announcement being officially confirmed by DC Comics themselves. Following that, new and upcoming Green Lantern Corps and Red Lanterns writer Joshua Hale Fialkov also announced (via his blog) that he's departing before his stint begins, also citing differences with editorial decisions about the direction of the book that led to his decision. Those stories ran through Newsarama and Bleeding Cool respectively, and they've been trending over comic book news related websites ever since.

Now, the kicker is the REASON why Fialkov walked out, which was reported by Bleeding Cool and contains possible SPOILERS, as the story MAY still run even with his departure.

Green Lantern: Geoff Johns, Peter J. Tomasi, and co. leave the GL Books come May

Come May 2013, the entire bookline of Green Lantern will see the end of not only the "Wrath of the First Lantern" arc, but also the departure of each and every creative member that's been a staple and figurehead for the series for years! Big name writers like Geoff Johns and Peter J. Tomasi will take their leaves from Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps respectively, while Tony Bedard and Peter Milligan leave Green Lantern New Guardians and Red Lanterns. Artist Fernando Pasarin also leaves GL Corps, and suddenly the entire emotional spectrum is left null and void for new creative talent to take a stab at.

Thanks to Bleeding Cool's post and DC Comics' May 2013 solicitations, we truly see the end of an era with Green Lantern. Geoff Johns - arguably the man responsible for reigniting interest in the Green Lantern mythos and beyond, is finally putting his swan song on the map with Green Lantern #20. It's really a tearful goodbye to a book that has been one of DC's strongest points prior to and during the New 52 era, and it's gonna be hard to see a GL book the same way again after he leaves. Readers know that he's still a figurehead on Justice League and Aquaman, but Geoff's contributions to Green Lantern and the big crossover stories of the past few years like Blackest Night have been nothing short of spectacular and amazing. The same can be said of Peter J. Tomasi, who held his own with Green Lantern Corps, and is doing an amazing job at Batman and Robin. To them and the rest of the creative team leaving, here's a tip off the hat to you guys. May the next generation of writers and artists of Green Lantern and its family of books do the same amazing job you guys did!

Comic Review: Green Lantern Corps #43

If there was one Blackest Night book that literally caught people off guard with its twists and turns, I'd probably have to vouch for Green Lantern Corps. It's the book that many won't pay attention to if they're all about sticking with the main BN storyline, but it holds significance on its own as a title the follows the string of soldiers who carry on battles that hold equal importance in the sidelines. I've made it a point to follow ever tie in I can as this event continues, and after last issue's climactic conclusion, I dare not turn my eyes away from this title... especially with what happens now.

After a large coalition of Black Lanterns gather to destroy the Oan Green Lantern Central Power Battery, Kyle Rayner made the ultimate move and gave his life to protect the Lantern's power source and buy his friends some time to regroup and deal with the undead threat. Grief stricken by his selfless sacrifice, Soranik Natu and Guy Gardner rush to his side and try to revive him, but the lifeless Kyle fails to respond, and all seems lost at this point. Filled with rage, Guy's anger attracts a Red Lantern ring to his side, turning him into the latest member of the RL Corps. As the crimson artifact fuels blood boiling energy to his veins, Gardner has become a weapon of mass destruction. Will his newfound power help him overcome the Black Lantern threat, or consume him to the dark side forever?

So... Guy Gardner has become a Red Lantern.

After what happened in last month's issue, I wouldn't blame Mr. Gardner for wielding the crimson ring. Peter J. Tomasi has brought in all the circumstances that justify his transformation, and now that Guy's in possession of a new weapon, he has the rage and willpower to take down his enemies, and he doesn't take shit from anyone. It fits his profile to become such a major bad ass, and adding a new layer of grief to the equation makes him more dangerous than ever. I'm liking how things are progressing so far, and since Pete's clearly on a role with GLC, he's channeling a lot of emotion to the corps, and killing off one of the book's most important characters is not an easy task to accomplish. The reaction to Kyle Rayner's death was one of surprise and shock, and I happen to be a big fan of the Torch Bearer. He was the one who carried the fight for the corps when they were destroyed by Parallax, and seeing him come to his own over the years made me respect the guy as much as I do Hal Jordan. Kyle's death made the ramifications of Blackest Night very symbolic and heartfelt to the fans, and kudos goes to Geoff Johns, Pete Tomasi, and all the collaborators for having the guts to pull off such a big bang crossover where no one is exempt from change and death. Guy may be the one going all rage over his best bud's demise, but it's Mr. Rayner's new squeeze, Soranik Natu, who's all choked up and unwilling to give up on her significant other. I won't spoil what else goes on in this issue, but let's just say you'll be just as surprised by the events transpiring here as you were if you read GLC #42. I kind of expected the climax here to turn out this way, but not too soon. Nevertheless, Everything falls into place and order in a timely fashion, and it's that focus on continuity that makes this book, and the entirety of Blackest Night, such a commendable project.

While you can feel the emotion and tension running through the dialogue, Patrick Gleason's pencils do a bang up job bringing all the elements to life in a colorful and furious way. As Guy's new look is "all the rage", we can see how much of it is seething through him, from the crimson blood gurgling out from his mouth to the lava red power that dismembers his foes. The illustrations may look a little too animated or cartoony, but it's not so bad a rendition, especially with all kinds of wild and tragic things happening everywhere. Black Lanterns fly to destroy the Central Power Battery, the GL forces continue to fight on and hold the fort, and then you have a wild Red/ Green Lantern with nothing to hold back... simply awesome.

If you're one of the many who's following Blackest Night right down to a tee, then pick up Green Lantern Corps and follow the other players in the field. This is not the book to pick up if you're in it for the main story, but it certainly makes an impression on its own if you're a fan of every other GL besides Hal Jordan. If you're willing to check this series out, retrace your steps a little and pick up the last few issues before this one, you'll be glad you did so and the impact will be much greater, guaranteed. For now, the war of light is starting to get edgier, and who knows what will happen next time. Simply Impressive.

Comic Book Review: Green Lantern Corps #42

Fresh off the grill, this week's comics were numerous. Every single Bat title I pick up came out, and Blackest Night rages on with its tie ins, which I pick up to satisfy my compulsion to read the entirety of the space zombie saga (as well as picking up those juicy rings). What I didn't expect, however, was one of the latter's titles, Green Lantern Corps, to hit me like a BIG SLAP on the face. Writer Peter J. Tomasi just wrote one of the most gut wrenching and tragic stories I've seen in recent years, and what it is exactly will be told if you continue on with this review. I'm giving fair SPOILER WARNING now, so be warned, once you hear or see it, there's no turning back.

Green Lantern Corps #42

In the midst of the Black Lantern invasion and chaos happening in OA, the Green Lantern Corps find much needed assistance with the timely arrival of the Indigo Lantern "Munk". His arrival is a welcomed sight to Green Lantern Vath and his fellow corps members, but the follower of the purple light can only do so much to quell the growing numbers of the Black Lantern Corps. Elsewhere, Kilowog, Guy Gardner, Soranik Natu, and Kyle Rayner do their best to keep their attackers at bay, only to witness all the Black Lanterns disengage and move towards a new target - the Oan Central Power Battery. Now realizing a greater loss is at stake, the GL Corps move in to defend their power source and salvation against the undead... even if it means life or death in the end.

Ok, brace yourselves for the one thing that made this issue so MIND BLOWING. There's no other way to describe how I felt after turning to that last page of this issue, and by revealing it now to you all reading this, it's considered a BIG SPOILER, especially to GREEN LANTERN FANS.This is your last BIG WARNING, so read at your own risk folks!










SPOILER WARNING!!!

At the end of this issue, a noble and honarable member of the Green Lantern Corps sacrifices his life to save the power battery and buy time for his teammates. That man is none other than the "Torch Bearer" himself, Kyle Rayner.

That's right folks... the one who carried the Green Lantern name when no one else could is gone and dead.T_T

All right... now that I got that big burden of a climax off my chest, I can talk about this issue alone. It's pretty much a solid, action packed, and drama story that's full of hope, tragedy, and despair that any space cowboy reading the GL books would love. Peter J. Tomasi is fresh in his element here, and he delivers the kind of shocker at the end of this issue that will get fans talking for months to come. I happen to be one of those guys, and believe me, it will leave you ruminating about what kind of fate will befall every individual affected one way or the other by this Blackest Night that has spread to the far reaches of the DC Comic community. Unlike the other Blackest Night books and tie ins, GLC has dealt more with the corps as a whole. Since Hal has his solo title, this book has free reign to explore what's happening with Kyle, Guy, Kilowog, and the rest of the green team, and now that they're facing space zombies, there's no telling what kind of shit they'll have to go through to put an end to the evil spreading in the cosmos. I've collected the rest of the issues before this, but this one in particular brings the biggest bang that could possibly happen yet in the Blackest Night that affects the GL Corp directly. Oh, and we learn more about how effective the Indigo Tribe is in handling the black abominations, so it's all good with Peter J. T. at the writing helm.

In the art department, we get some of the most action packed art seen in a GL Title, courtesy of artist Patrick Gleason. His style is befitting of the scale GL Corps draws with the sheer number of things happening all at the same time. It's the kind of art that doesn't feel sketchy or rushed, and just blends in well with the dialogue and emotion running high with this kind of event. In fact, he illustrates the characters well enough to give they dimension and importance in the scope of things. Even in delivering the ending, it's a one pager that will be embedded in the hearts and minds of readers to come.

With all that said, Green Lantern Corps is a must read for those following Blackest Night and everyone else involved in it. Anyone looking for Hal Jordan won't find a speck of him here since he's got his own solo title, but for those worried and curious about what's happening to Guy and the rest of the green team, you'd better pay attention to this book. Like I said, something BIG happens here, and by next issue and the tie ins to come, the ramifications will be BIGGER. It's A class writing and art delivered by the fine team of Tomasi and Gleason. These two have literally made a mark on the industry with this issue... and those who grew up liking certain characters will never forget it.
