DC Comics: Earth 2 #17 starts a new tale... And previews some major *SPOILER* changes

When the DC Universe rebooted and changed things with "The New 52" era in 2011, so did the multiverse and the adventures of the alternate reality versions of the characters we've come to know and love in DC Comics. "Earth-2" was one of the second wave of titles to usher in the following year, with writer James Robinson steering the ship and exploring new origin stories and tales of the parallel world. The first arc saw the trinity, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, give up their lives to fight the invading forces of Apokolips, while dealing with other heroes who have more or less emerged in the wake of the crisis.

Now, writer Tom Taylor steps in on issue #17 following the departure of Robinson the previous issue, and this time the stakes get even higher with the introduction of new twists, turns, and darker times for Earth 2. Via USA Today, a preview was released showing just how serious things have gotten, with the emergence of a new Batman, the return of Superman - thought dead and now on the side of evil, and the new identity taken by a certain female reporter which will certainly shock all.

2 DC Comics writers leave books... And DC planned to kill off a Major Green Lantern character?

The comic community around interwebz has been abuzz lately, with the news of certain writers and talents of DC Comics leaving some of their books on The New 52 over creative differences.

New Action Comics' scribe Andy Diggle has walked out of the Superman book way before his first issue came out, announcing it on his official Twitter Page and the announcement being officially confirmed by DC Comics themselves. Following that, new and upcoming Green Lantern Corps and Red Lanterns writer Joshua Hale Fialkov also announced (via his blog) that he's departing before his stint begins, also citing differences with editorial decisions about the direction of the book that led to his decision. Those stories ran through Newsarama and Bleeding Cool respectively, and they've been trending over comic book news related websites ever since.

Now, the kicker is the REASON why Fialkov walked out, which was reported by Bleeding Cool and contains possible SPOILERS, as the story MAY still run even with his departure.

SPOILER ALERT: Batman Inc. #8 cover hits online early

As a big Batman fan and collector, I enjoy Grant Morrison's run on The Caped Crusader and his new direction on the fight against crime with "Batman Incorporated". Not only does Bruce Wayne expand his reach against the cowardly and superstitious worldwide, but the rest of his Bat-Family and allies across the globe get exposure. The first volume of Batman Inc. during the Pre-New 52 era of DC Comics gave us a good look at how expansive that reach was... Now Volume 2 has sank danger's teeth into the core of Batman and his team... With big repercussions to boot.

That being said, next week's release of Batman Inc. #8 is said to have great ramifications for a certain mainstay Batcharacter and a fan favorite. It's pretty much a solid guess who it was going to be... But surprises could be in store for readers especially after what went down with this week's Batman #17 and the conclusion of the Joker centered storyline "Death of the Family". Now, the same guy who spoiled Marvel's "The Amazing Spider-Man #700" does it again with Batman Inc. #8. BE WARNED. THIS IS HEAVY SPOILER MATERIAL, so look at your own risk.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

See Leia, Han, and Chewie Buy The Farm In Star Wars: the Force Unleashed II!

Sadly, I kid you not. A couple of videos were released by IGN and featured in websites io9 and Slash Film that were UNTHINKABLE in the original movie trilogy, but are entirely possible now in the game universe of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2. In the expansion pack "Battle For Endor", your character (choosing the path of the Dark Side) will have the opportunity to fight AND kill Han, Chewbacca, and Leia - 3/4 of the main cast! Check out the videos and see for yourselves! SPOILERS though!

SW: The Force Unleashed 2 - Han and Chewie Death

Now it's Leia's turn... and she's not going out without a fight... armed with a yellow lightsaber!

Captain America Update: High-Res photos and more plot details pop up!

Last week featured big news for Marvel fans eagerly awaiting next year's star spangled heroic movie Captain America: The First Avenger. Not only was the cover to the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly revealed featuring Chris Evans as Cap on the cover, but so were photos from the movie itself featuring more shots of Evans in his starring role, as well as his fellow cast members like Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull. As such, details were inevitably going to follow, and sure enough, movie blog site Screen Rant has the scoop on plot highlights from the movie. Of course, SPOILERS are going to be there, so I won't note down the specifics. Obviously, the movie will be set in World War II and will be an origin story... but there's a lot more to it as well that will simply leave fans excited for what's to come, especially with the build up to the forthcoming Avengers film in 2012. Also, the movie will undergo a slight title change when it gets relased internationally, omitting "Captain America" and going by "The First Avenger" instead. This is obviously to make audiences in non-US territories connect the movie with Avengers better, but personally, I think Captain America is the one true label that should stick. If you can't resist reading more, go visit Screen Rant's link here, which also includes High-Res pics of the photos featured in the EW Cap Spotlight issue!

Blackest Night Update: The Mastermind Revealed... (SPOILER ALERT!)

I've been enjoying Blackest Night a lot, and even did reviews for the main series and its tie-ins for that matter (check the archives for those). It's been one hell of a reading rollercoaster ride, and things have been so unpredictable for its part that there's no telling who's going to buy it and return as a Black Lantern in the months to come. I actually prefer it to be surprised that way, and while DC has been mum on most of the details, it had to be the mandatory comic solicitations that finally revealed who "THE BIG CHEESE" is. Yes, I'm talking about the brains behind the whole undead resurrection thing; the man who the rogue Guardian Scar worships; the force that trapped the Anti-Monitor in a Black Lantern Power Battery, and the deity whom Black Hand serves to spread the word that is "Death" itself.

SPOILER MODE ON! THERE'S NO TURNING BACK FOR PURISTS IF YOU SCROLL DOWN, SO I SUGGEST YOU SHY AWAY... NOW!

I warned you...

The big bad mastermind behind the whole Black Lantern mess is none other than Nekron, Lord Of The Undead! This baddie from the GL Universe made his debut way back in Tales Of The Green Lantern Corps #2 in 1981, and served as the dark force who ruled over a place like Limbo and Purgatory, siphoning his power from all the souls and spirits of those who ever died. It has been speculated for months by several fans that this guy was the driving force behind Blackest Night, and now that the reveal is out in the open thanks to the cover of Blackest Night #5, their theories were proven right. Want to find out more about this guy? IGN discusses it in an article alongside the BN writer extraordinaire himself, Geoff Johns! And for more info on the DC solicits and BN tie-ins, visit Newsarama's Full November 2009 DC Solicitations link! All answers will be revealed in time, so keep reading Blackest Night as it marches onward!
