Iron Man 3: The Non-Spoiler Review

Officially opening in international theaters yesterday and ushering in Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe early for some countries like The Philippines, Iron Man 3 opened and brought Robert Downey Jr. back into the superhero summer blockbuster fold as Tony Stark/ Iron Man. After the significant impact and repercussions felt from last year's superhero team-up movie success that was The Avengers, how can the brilliant yet eccentric hero hope to cope with the new experiences and insight he's gained from that adventure? This is what that movie talks about, as well as continuing the exploits of the armored avenger as he faces a new threat that tests his limits to the very core.

With the movie coming out in US theaters on May 3rd, this review will be careful to dodge SPOILERS, and stick to simple truths and facts of what you can expect from the film as another installment in an already multi-billion earning franchise. If you haven't seen any of the films by Marvel Studios or what makes up the Marvel Cinematic Universe for that matter, do a little back tracking first before watching this movie. Iron Man 3 takes the route back to Tony's world, and it's a whole new ballgame for Mr. Stark to learn and overcome.

I've seen it twice on Opening day in the RP in 2D and 3D, so for the sake of audiences who have yet to see it, I'll keep this review short and SPOILER FREE... with another "more detailed" review to come when May 4 hits.

Iron Man 3: New "Iron Patriot" Character poster revealed

The official Iron Man Facebook page has released a brand new character poster for "Iron Man 3", featuring none other than Robert Downey Jr./ Tony Stark's close friend and confidante Lt. Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes... aka War Machine/ Iron Patriot! Played once again by actor Don Cheadle (who took over the role of Rhodey in "Iron Man 2" after Terrence Howard wasn't cast back for the role), the new one sheet shows Rhodes in full Iron Patriot attire sans helmet, staring sideways amidst an sunset ocean backdrop and looking ready for the worst. The previous Iron Man 3 poster showed the same backdrop, only with Tony Stark/ Iron Man in his Mark 47 armor damaged and falling from the sky!

The Shane Black directed film sees Robert Downey Jr. returning as Tony Stark/ Iron Man, as he faces a new threat in the form of The Mandarin (played by Ben Kingsley). The new shots released focus on the Iron Patriot, confirmed to be the new codename for the War Machine armor worn by Tony's bestfriend Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes, and a first look at Rebecca Hall's character in the movie, who's also said to take part in the Extremis project that'll enhance Tony's abilities in the movie! Marvel Teaser: The New Dark Avengers...

Marvel Comics' has been having a busy week releasing all these juicy teasers for November, and the latest one has to do with the return of Norman Osborn and a new iteration of his infamous Dark Avengers! In the aftermath of Secret Invasion, the civilian identity of the maniacal Green Goblin rose to power, usurping control of national security from Tony Stark/ Iron Man and leading the forces of a reformatted S.H.I.E.L.D agency which became known as H.A.M.M.E.R (what that stands for is still shrouded in mystery). Osborn eventually donned the identity of the "Iron Patriot" (an amalgamation of Captain America and Iron Man) and became leader of a new iteration of Avengers, or "Dark Avengers" as they were better known to readers. Now, Marvel is set to introduce them again this November in the pages of New Avengers #18. Check out the teaser pic below, courtesy of Marvel.com and Newsarama.

Yes, who exactly are these new Dark Avengers?

Obviously from the image alone, all we can see is Osborn pointing ala Uncle Sam. Who else will be in the team remains a mystery, but I'm sure it'll have a Hulk, Spider-Man, and Hawkeye judging from the shadowy figures behind the villain. We'll just have to wait and see how this goes down in a few months time. For now, visit the source posts at Marvel.com and Newsarama for additional details.
