Marvel Studios' "Iron Man" was released 11 years ago this day

"I Am Iron Man."

Through those words and the cinematic origin story told by Marvel Studios, a former B-Lister Marvel Comics superhero and founding member of the Avengers turned into a global blockbuster sensation in 2008. A gamble to usher in a cinematic universe with a returning and sober Robert Downey Jr. paid off, as Tony Stark and the Marvel Cinematic Universe was born and the very first "Iron Man" film directed by Jon Favreau was released on this day 11 years ago!

Marvel Studios' "The Art of Iron Man: 10th Anniversary Edition" hits this October

It's hard to believe that it's been more than 10 years since Marvel Studios and director Jon Favreau took a gamble to jumpstart the Marvel Cinematic Universe with "Iron Man" - but it certainly paid off in spades and helped reignite the career of Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr. - who plays the titular character and his alter ego Tony Stark. As the heart of the MCU, RDJ and Iron Man have helped carry and connect all films of the MCU all the way to its long awaited convergence film in this year's "Avengers: Infinity War" - so it's only fitting that Marvel is going to celebrate a decade's worth of the Armored Avenger's first solo flick by releasing a 10th Anniversary edition of "The Art of Iron Man"!

As detailed in Amazon, the new release will be packed with exclusive content - from director Jon Favreau's vision in creating the film to bringing the Iron Man armor to life with the help of Stan Winston Studios! It sounds like a surefire collector's item piece for Iron Man fans - and this book will be released on October 9, 2018 and will retail for about $55.

Cowboys and Aliens' star Harrison Ford meets an old friend...

Everyone knows who Harrison Ford is. The legendary actor played Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise, and he was the swashbuckling adventurer Indiana Jones as well. Now he's about to set forth in a new adventure in the Wild West fighting against extra-terrestrials in the Jon Favreau directed "Cowboys and Aliens". Before that though, he has an "old score" to settle with an old friend, and everything went down during Ford's interview in Jimmy Kimmel. E! Online featured this You Tube clip on their site, and now you can see it here too!

This past weekend at the Hero Complex Film Festival, Iron Man star and Tony Stark actor Robert Downey Jr. made a surprise appearance at the show, joining his former director and the festival's esteemed guest Jon Favreau for a Q & A session that the duo answered for the people in attendance. They talked mostly about Iron Man I and II's creative process, and later on delved into Marvel's upcoming 2012 blockbuster superhero team up film Avengers, as well as giving some of their own thoughts about Iron Man 3 and its new director Shane Black as well, whom RDJ has worked with before in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Since the first teaser trailer last year and Super Bowl commercial last February (as well as the numerous exclusive footages at the Cons), fans and viewers haven't seen anything new come up for Jon Favreau's next picture, Cowboys & Aliens. Recently, the former Iron Man film director released a new trailer of his hot summer sci-fi action flick starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde during American Idol, and now it has landed online, courtesy of sites like Slash Film and You Tube. There's not much new to see on this one, but it still dazzles and makes me want to see the flick when it comes out in theaters in July! Check it out in the embedded player below. Iron Man 3 Update: Shane Black describes film as a "Tom Clancy" styled thriller

Since Jon Favreau's departure from the director's chair of the Iron Man film franchise, director Shane Black was chosen by Marvel to step in and take over the job for the next sequel Iron Man 3, with more expectations rising from fans as to how the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director would deliver the next film starring the Armored Avenger. At the recent Omaha Film Festival, Black confirmed that not only will he be helming the film, but he'll also be penning the script as well, and given his extensive writing resume and contributions to Hollywood hits like the Lethal Weapon franchise, we may be expecting big things for Ol' Shellhead's next adventure in the big screen.

Via a post from Ain't It Cool News, Shane Black will begin work on the screenplay of Iron Man 3 by meeting with the star of the show and Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr. Having previously worked and directing the actor in his first and only directorial feature to date, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, it's a sure bet Black and Downey have chemistry, but how it will turn out when it comes to all things Iron Man remains to be seen. The director also states that because of the disappointment the studio had with the direction of Iron Man 2, things are going to be a little different this time around for Iron Man 3. Black describes the film as "Iron Man fighting real world villains in a Tom Clancy-styled thriller". If that's the case, then the third film returns in some way to the humble origins of the first film, where Tony Stark was forced to build a suit of armor to flee captivity from real life terrorists.

In a way, it makes perfect sense to ground Iron Man and have him fight real life villains. Iron Man 2 strayed too much from the sincerity and realism I felt from the first film, especially since the sequel was built as a springboard to slowly introduce The Avengers into Hollywood (which resulted on Jon Favreau leaving in the first place over creative differences with the studio). Having too many heroes will just confuse the direction of the movie altogether, and it's a relief to hear that Shane Black says there will be no other heroes appearing in Iron Man 3 other than Tony Stark, his alter ego, and his supporting cast. There will be references still, but since Iron Man 3 comes out a year after The Avengers hits theaters, things will shift back into single hero stories, and that's truly a good thing to expect. It's too soon to tell how this all plays out, but here's hoping Black, Downey, and the rest of the Iron Man film crew have something good to offer for the third film! Marvel Movie Updates: New Iron Man Director and another Thor Trailer!

Lots of Marvel movies news have hit the interwebz this day, and it's time to get on with announcements!

Deadline and Screen Rant have just reported that Shane Black, once rumored to be one of the top candidates to fill in the vacant director's chair for Iron Man 3, has officially been named as the new director for the next sequel featuring the armored avenger. Black, whose credentials include directing Robert Downey Jr. before in the movie Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, has also served as writer for the Lethal Weapon film series, so he may just be the man for the job after Jon Favreau announced that he wouldn't be returning to direct Iron Man 3. No word yet whether or not he'll also serve as writer, but if you're still in the fence as to whether or not Black can deliver, the director/ writer has also been approached to direct treatments of Doc Savage and an americanized version of Death Note. Now if that's not confidence placed in the right hands, I don't know what it. For more info, visit the source posts over at Deadline and Screen Rant!

Next up, Yahoo! Movies has debuted a new trailer for Marvel Studios' first new superhero flick due this May, Thor! It features new footage of the God of Thunder (Played by Chris Hemsworth) and everyone else around his circle, most especially Odin (played by Anthony Hopkins) who manages to show his fighting side in the trailer! For more on the scoop, visit the source post at Screen Rant, and you can check it out here via Yahoo! Movies!

Iron Man 3 Update: Shane Black being considered as new Director/ Writer!

Looks like Robert Downey Jr. may be getting a familiar face to work with even with Jon Favreau's departure as director of the Iron Man franchise, as Marvel is now in talks with director Shane Black to helm the next installment of the armored avenger's adventures in film!

The Hollywood Reporter and several other movies sites like Screen Rant report that Black, who directed RDJ in his post-rehad comeback film Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, is in negotiations to direct Iron Man 3, and he may also be attached to the project in a writing capacity as well. If this ends up being true, then not only is it reuniting Downey Jr. with Black, but it may also add a new layer of action that's much needed in the franchise. Shane worked on all four Lethal Weapon films, and it's action comedy punch may be what ol' shellhead's next film needs after the lukewarm reception everyone got from Iron Man 2 (not that it was a bad film, but it lost the charm the first film possessed and had too much emphasis on leading on to The Avengers rather than being a stand alone film). Since things haven't been confirmed yet, let's hope Shane Black wins the director's chair for Iron Man 3. For more info, visit the source posts at THR and Screen Rant.

Iron Man 3 comes bursting out to theaters on May 3, 2012.

Thor Update: A New Poster Cometh!

Movie news site Screen Rant has posted a new one sheet poster of Marvel Studios' "Thor", once again featuring Chris Hemsworth as the God Of Thunder, standing with his mighty hammer Mjolnir and looking ready to face whatever threat lies before him. This is only the second poster released to promote the movie, and it's nothing relatively new, save for the enlarged movie logo in the middle and Hemsworth's Thor shifting from a back stance to a front one. I'd like to see a poster featuring all the Asgardians, Jane Foster, S.H.I.E.L.D, and The Destroyer; Like something similar to Jon Favreau's Iron Man movie one sheets. Still, for more info on this as well as other one sheet posters of other upcoming 2011 films "The Green Hornet" and "Sucker Punch", you can visit the source post over at Screen Rant!

Iron Man 3 Update: Jon Favreau won't be returning as director...

This news is just as disappointing to hear as any recasting and reboot issues Marvel films have had in the past. Having viewed the rumors this morning and now getting wind of confirmed reports via Comic Book Resources, it seems that Jon Favreau, the director of the Iron Man films, WILL NOT return to direct Iron Man 3.

This is pretty sad news to hear, considering Favreau is one of the few and rare directors with the passion and understanding for comic books and characters such as ol' shellhead. Were it not for his contributions and vision, Iron Man wouldn't have turned into the blockbuster franchise that it is today, and given the success of said franchise, the director has moved up the Hollywood ladder and is now going on to direct other sweet projects such as the upcoming "Cowboys & Aliens" and Disney's forthcoming "Magical Kingdom". Admittedly, "Iron Man 2" did not share the same quality of enjoyment as the first film, but Jon Fav had a tight 2 year schedule to work around with, and the final product was still enjoyable despite the pacing issues. Still, Favreau's recent tweet confirmed a rumored report by Vulture that he won't be returning to direct the next sequel, which is a bummer in every sense. Robert Downey Jr. is still contractually obliged to return as Tony Stark/ Iron Man, but we won't be getting the heart and soul behind the franchise... unless he returns to star as Happy Hogan, which Jon has done in the past two films as well. Still, this change in creative control issue is far depressing for this Iron Man fan, and who knows what the future will bring for the franchise come 2013.
