Legendary Acquires Rights to Capcom’s “Street Fighter” For Movie and TV

For you, the day Legendary acquired the rights to Capcom’s “Street Fighter” for Movie & TV just may be the most important announcement of your life… But for long time fans of the franchise, it was Tuesday.

Paraphrasing the late great Raul Julia’s quote of “Bison Tuesday” aside from the 1994 “Street Fighter” movie, Deadline reports that the studio behind the “Dune” and the “Monsterverse” films that feature Godzilla and Kong will work alongside Capcom to tackle film and television projects based on one of the most popular fighting game IPs on the planet and the one that helped revolutionize the fighting game genre in the 1990’s. A feature film is in development, and this news comes months before the latest installment in the video game series, Street Fighter 6, is released for PC and consoles.

Via Movie news sites like Screen Rant and Enewsi, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have released the very first photo of Henry Cavill as Superman from the Zack Snyder directed and Christopher Nolan produced "Man of Steel"! What you see in the pic above is simply what it is - A familiar yet mean looking Supes among the wreckage of what appears to be a bank vault or fan room... And he looks mighty pissed to boot! After receiving the news that Laurence Fishburne has been cast as Daily Planet EIC Perry White (and joining other big names like Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe, who play the fathers of Superman, Jonathan Kent and Jor-El respectively), this is the next bit of Man of Steel news that'll throw Superman fans into a discussion frenzy! The Dark Knight Rises Update: Official Press Release online

Filming for Christopher Nolan's next and final Batman epic "The Dark Knight Rises" has already begun, and while there's certainly no new information yet to pass around in the movie blog sites other than the usual rumors and set photos, an official press release was given off by Nolan, Warner Bros., and Legendary Pictures, confirming the fact the sequel is underway. As posted in Slash Film, you can take a look at it below:

BURBANK, CA, May 19, 2011 – Principal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises,” the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar® winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter”) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake. Returning to the main cast, Oscar® winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules”) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar® winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”) reprises the role of Lucius Fox.

In helming “The Dark Knight Rises,” Christopher Nolan is utilizing IMAX® cameras even more extensively than he did on “The Dark Knight,” which had marked the first time ever that a major feature film was partially shot with IMAX® cameras. The results were so spectacular that the director wanted to expand the use of the large-format cameras for this film.

The screenplay for “The Dark Knight Rises” is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is being produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster “The Dark Knight.” The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. “The Dark Knight” is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

Behind the scenes, “The Dark Knight Rises” reunites the director with several of his longtime collaborators, all of whom worked together on the “The Dark Knight.” The creative team includes director of photography Wally Pfister, who recently won an Oscar® for his work on Nolan’s “Inception”; production designer Nathan Crowley; editor Lee Smith; and Oscar®-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (“Topsy-Turvy”). In addition, Paul Franklin and Chris Corbould, who both won Oscars® for the effects in “Inception,” will supervise the visual and special effects, respectively. The music will be composed by Oscar® winner Hans Zimmer (“The Lion King”).

The locations for “The Dark Knight Rises” span three continents and include the American cities of Pittsburgh, New York and Los Angeles, as well as sites in India, England and Scotland.

“The Dark Knight Rises” is a presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures, in association with Legendary Pictures. Slated for release on July 20, 2012, the film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

The Dark Knight Rises is slated for a July 20, 2012 release.

Mass Effect gets the movie treatment!

Video Games are moving up in the world... and another big title gets the hollywood treatment!

Mass Effect, Electronic Arts and Bioware's epic Sci-Fi videogame series, has officially gotten its film rights acquired by Legendary Pictures, with a motion picture release primed and ready to be made for the near future! Known for their work in heavy hitting pictures such as The Dark Knight, 300, and Clash Of The Titans, the studio will work to bring Commander Shepard and the crew of the SSV Normandy to the big screen. Producing the film will be Avi and Ari Arad, whose credentials include most of the recent Marvel blockbuster movies to hit the big screen. To top it off, Screenwriter Mark Protosevich, who worked on I Am Legend and the upcoming Thor film, is writing the film's script, so it should be interesting how things go from here. No cast has been announced yet, but details will surely be up in the near future. Hopefully, this successful game franchise, which has spawned two games already, will get the proper motion picture treatment!
