Top Gun: Maverick Comes Home on Digital August 23 and Home Media November 1

After quite the blockbuster run in theaters and absolutely kicking the afterburner nostalgia and hype with a sequel that’s 36 years in the making, Paramount Pictures has officially announced that “Top Gun: Maverick” is flying home to digital and home media pretty soon - with the digital release coming August 23 and then November 1st for home media in 4k Ultra HD and Blu-Ray!

The long awaited sequel, which features Tom Cruise reprising his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and teaching a mew generation of Top Gun pilots - is the highest grossing film of 2022 and of Cruise’s Hollywood career. It has earned $1.3 Billion in the global box office, and continues to play in some theaters around the world.

Top Gun: Maverick Soars Past $1 Billion in the Global Box Office, Becoming Tom Cruise’s Biggest Highest Grossing Film Ever

Literally just like his character in the films, Tom Cruise has defied the odds and soared on to new heights reprising his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, as “Top Gun: Maverick” soars past $1 billion dollars in the worldwide box office as reported by Deadline Hollywood and has easily become his highest grossing film ever!

Opening just before Memorial Day Weekend across the globe, the sequel to the 1986 cult classic “Top Gun” is set 36 years after the events of the original, where Cruise reprises his role as an older yet still very dangerous Maverick who is still an active  test pilot and has managed to avoid being grounded or promoted for over three decades. He is called back once again to train a new generation of Top Gun pilots for a new mission by his former rival turned friend Admiral Tom “Iceman” Kazansky (once again played by the legendary Val Kilmer), and among the new students he’s teaching is Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller) - the son of his long deceased RIO and best friend Goose.

Definitely one of the best movie sequels ever made as well as a top contender for movie of the year, Top Gun Maverick will absolutely blow your mind with its daring aerial dogfights, special effects, and a very relatable story that will make you “feel the need for speed”. Check out my review for the film here, and see why it is absolutely a MUST WATCH while it’s still in theaters!

Throwback Thursday: Tropic Thunder turns 5 years

Five years ago, who would have thunk that Ben Stiller would hit a gold mine and gather some of the most talented and zaniest bad-ass mofo actors to walk the face of the planet in one sensational hit comedy!?

Of course, I'm talking about none other than the 2008 laughtrip hit "Tropic Thunder", which stars and was directed by Stiller himself, with a cast that includes comedian Jack Black, newly inducted "Iron Man" at the time Robert Downey Jr., Matthew McConaughey, Nick Nolte, and a special unexpected cameo role by action star Tom Cruise himself! It was released on August 12th that year, and became certified gold thanks to awesome crack up jokes, undeniable schizophrenic like performances, and the kind of silliness and absurdity that'll make you turn over laughing like crazy.

Five years later, and I'm still bombed as heck by the trailer alone. Let's start the recap... And warning, EXPLICIT LANGUAGE and HILARITY will ensue.

TDKR Prologue attached to Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (Updated)

Update: Slash Film updates that story has been confirmed, and the run time is 6 minutes, not 8.

Big Batman film news has arrived, but as far as official confirmation goes, take this one as a rumor first.

Back in 2007, while things were steadily building for The Dark Knight, director Christopher Nolan was wise enough to appease the hunger of fans worldwide by attaching a "Prologue" piece of the Batman Begins sequel into IMAX screenings of Will Smith's "I Am Legend". Obviously, the move was a smart one, and enough to generate buzz around the world, giving viewers a taste of the opening sequence of the film, as well as what Heath Ledger's Joker would be like in action. Sadly, the actor passed away tragically just a month after the prologue was shown, and the combination of that and his sudden demise garnered more interest for The Dark Knight, which inevitably grossed out the box office upon its release on July 18, 2008.

Flash forward some years later, and now similar news is buzzing up for the next and final Christopher Nolan Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises. While this has yet to be confirmed by official sources, movie news site Slash Film has posted up a rumor that another "Prologue" sequence will be shown, attached to IMAX screenings of Tom Cruise's next Mission: Impossible flick "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol". It will reportedly run for 6 minutes, so whether or not this will be an opening sequence like TDK is still up in the air. Since Nolan shot certain sequences of TDK in IMAX which included the opening sequence/ prologue of that movie, the same should apply to the 6 minute footage from TDKR that will be bundled with Ghost Protocol. Hopefully this will get official confirmation sooner than later, and you can bet I'm going to line up in my local IMAX theater just to get a taste of things to come on July 20 next year! For more details on the scoop and story, visit the source post at Slash Film and related articles on Batman-News and Cinema Blend!

The Dark Knight Rises premieres worldwide on July 20, 2012!

Movie Review: Knight and Day

I finally saw Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz make trails on this super spy adventure. Honestly, the trailer seemed interesting, and with no other movies out save for the new Twilight sequel on theaters, I decided to give this one a go, even if ratings didn't really soar for this action flick.

Knight and Day is an action comedy that sees Cruise take on the role of a rogue CIA agent, Roy Miller, who's framed and on the run, risking life and neck to protect a genius inventor boy named Simon Feck, who's created a powerful device that "very bad men" from all over the world want, including a former partner of Roy's who was responsible for setting him up. Along the way, Miller runs and bumps into a woman in the airport named June Havens, who is on the way home to Boston for her sister's wedding. She is at first completely unaware of his CIA agent nature, but circumstances inside the airplane they're both riding force Miller to act and save June. From there, the movie follows the duo, as they get into more daring situations that force Roy to play double time as the hero and save June as she gets dragged into his world deeper and deeper.

Ok, now that I've described the gist of things, I'll be honest with you guys. This movie was typical at best for an action movie, especially one with Tom Cruise at the lead. There was nothing wrong with the mechanics and presentation. However, there wasn't much of a bang to make this one memorable, especially with that lackluster ending sequence that probably opens doors for a sequel if need be. Despite opening a week after Toy Story 3, the Disney Pixar movie still has more of a charm to work with that will leave audiences satisfied, unlike here where if you're just after the thrill of the chase, all you'll get is momentary satisfaction and the usual action comedy segments that make this look like a Mission: Impossible/ Charlie's Angels crossover not taken seriously. Overall, I'd recommend this one if you have nothing better to do. Otherwise, it's either watching the toys again or making room for vampire moments this week.

Rating - 3/5
