Silent Hill Remake Confirmed by Konami, Bloober Team Developing The Game

Following the Konami Press Start digital showcase event, Konami had one big teaser surprise up their sleeve and official revealed that the original Silent Hill is getting the remake treatment - from Bloober Team themselves!

Yes, the same people responsible for the Silent Hill 2 Remake are making the Silent Hill Remake - and that probably means Silent Hill 3 Remake won’t be far behind as it is a sequel to the first game’s story! Let’s wait and see!

Silent Hill 2 Remake: New Story Trailer and Gameplay Videos Released

 

It’s almost time to return to that “special place” in less than two months, as Konami and Bloober Team prepare Silent Hill fans new and old for a new interpretation of one of the best games in the series with the “Silent Hill 2 Remake” - which is set to be released for PlayStation 5 and PC this October 8! 

A new story trailer has been released - which evokes the original game’s trailer where James Sunderland talks to Maria… who is acting like his late wife Mary, as well as meeting other characters and creatures inside the cursed town of Silent Hill.

Also, VGC has a new video showing off gameplay for the upcoming remake.

Silent Hill Transmission Returns This May 30

 

It’s been a long time since the very first Silent Hill Transmission digital event was held by Konami in October 2022 and revealed to the world new projects for the then long dormant survival horror franchise. In addition to confirming the existence and development of the long rumored Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill fans were treated to new trailers and reveals of upcoming new games and even a new film - “Return to Silent Hill”, which of course got a lot of fans excited.

Nearly two years later and following some game releases and updates on the status of the Silent Hill 2 Remake, Konami will return with a brand new Silent Hill Transmission digital event - which takes place on May 30, 4pm PDT on the Silent Hill YouTube channel. Stay tuned and be prepared for whatever announcements may come!

Silent Hill Transmission: Silent Hill 2 Remake Confirmed, New Projects Announced Including Return to Silent Hill Movie and New Game Silent Hill F

We did indeed have restless dreams about that town and franchise ever since Konami laid the Silent Hill franchise in a dormant state for years. Now all of that has changed - as the publisher delivered on their promise to hold a “Silent Hill Transmission” livestream digital event where they would announce news and updates on the series, and boy did they deliver big time!

First off is a long rumored and now officially confirmed game

- Silent Hill 2 is coming back and is getting a remake from Bloober Team!

21 years after its original release, this beloved entry in the Silent Hill franchise is being recreated and represented for a new generation - and will be released for PlayStation 5 to boot (UPDATE: Now also Steam as Konami has tweeted)!

In addition to the Silent Hill 2 Remake, a couple of new projects such as Silent Hill Townfall and Silent Hill Ascension have been announced - as well as a new Silent Hill film by Christophe Gans called “Return to Silent Hill” - which will be an adaptation of Silent Hill 2’s story!

Konami Launches New Silent Hill Teaser Site, Latest Updates Coming This October 19

Long rumored and now finally revealed by Konami themselves, it looks like the long dormant Silent Hill franchise is coming back in some shape and form, as the video game publisher has opened a new teaser website - which you can follow here.

After Konami cancelled Silent Hills and all but abandoned the franchise - Will this be the long rumored Silent Hill 2 remake? Or something entirely new that will catch fans off guard? We’ll just have to wait and see this Wednesday.

Silent Hill 2 Turns 20 Years Today

 

It's been two decades since Konami and Team Silent released one of the best survival horror entries in Silent Hill 2 - a sequel that enhances everything that its predecessor laid out by giving us a much more terrifying experience into the cursed town that the game derives its name from. Released on this day in 2001 for the Sony PlayStation 2, the game introduces us to widower James Sunderland - who is drawn into the mysterious town of Silent Hill due to a letter sent by his wife Mary... Who died three years prior to the events of the game. Exploring the town to find answers, he is instead drawn to the mystery of his surroundings - encountering people with their own problems as well as creatures that are demonic manifestations of a person's own dark nature.

The backstory of Silent Hill is a convoluted case - which is built on the notes and mysterious letters that center on a town that had a cult worshipping a demon and unleashing dark energies that have remained a part of it even after the events of the first game. Silent Hill 2 and the other sequels explore in great detail other aspects of the town and expand on its lore - as well as the poor unfortunate souls like James who are drawn to go there and their "skeletons in the closet" are brought to life because of the dark energies that still reside inside the haunted town. 

Gameplay of course is typical Survival Horror fare - you guide the character through a town and explore collecting items, solving puzzles, and defeating enemies to progress through the story. There are multiple endings for this entry as well - the most out of any installment, and one that is dependent on the choices you make and conditions you set about completing the game. It's this attention to detail and these design choices that among the great aspects of the games Team Silent made, and why this sequel is beloved by many fans to this day.

GamesCom 2014: Hideo Kojima teams w/ Guillermo Del Toro for Silent Hills w/ Norman Reedus; Metal Gear Solid V comes to PC

Konami is on a roll for Gamescom 2014, and it's all thanks to Hideo Kojima.

In addition to the man himself appearing and "teasing" more of his upcoming epic that is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain with "a demonstration" of the new abilities of the Cardboard Box, the acclaimed video game developer and leader of Kojima Productions has also confirmed his involvement in a new Silent Hill game called "Silent Hills", which he'll be working on together with "Pacific Rim" and "Hellboy" director Guillermo Del Toro, with "The Walking Dead" and Daryl Dixon actor himself Norman Reedus set to star in it! As reported in Kotaku, That "P.T" announcement that was shown in the Sony Playstation Conference was pretty much the new Silent Hill's teaser, so Kojima has surprised us once again with goodness to come.

Also, Kotaku has put up a report that pretty much confirms that Metal Gear Solid V as a whole is coming to PC and Steam

As for a release date for these titles, that has yet to be confirmed... For now.

Silent Hill 3: 10 Years Later... It's still a terrifying sequel and an awesome classic

10 years ago, I never imagined that I'd revisit a certain "spooky town" for the third straight time in a video game series, let alone find myself controlling a teenaged girl with a feisty attitude, "life preserver" jacket, and some horrible and mysterious nightmares that could make any sane man crack at the seams.

Of course, I'm talking about none other than Konami's 2nd Playstation 2 Survival Horror epic "Silent Hill 3", which was released in North America on August 6th, 2003, and serves as the first direct sequel to a previous installment in the series, namely the very first Silent Hill.

Players take control of a young girl named Heather, who is the adopted daughter of first game's hero Harry Mason. Set seventeen years after Silent Hill, Heather is unaware that the same cult group responsible for unleashing the horrors in the town have found her, and are slowly manipulating those demonic forces to use the teenager for their own sinister whims. Of course, Heather won't go down without a fight... But will she survive the experience and make it out in one piece?

Silent Hill Revelation: Blu-Ray cover and details revealed

The official Silent Hill Facebook page has revealed the official box cover art for the upcoming home video release of Silent Hill Revelation! A sequel to the 2006 Silent Hill film and an adaptation of the Konami Survival Horror video game series of the same name, Revelation is based on the events of Silent Hill 3, and focuses on Heather Mason as she ventures into the cursed town to rescue her father and discover her origins. The movie starred Adelaide Clemens as Heather, while Game of Thrones stars Sean Bean and Kit Harrington played supporting roles as Heather's father Harry Mason/ Christopher Silva and Vincent.

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D poster revealed

Due next month in theaters and just in time for Halloween, Open Road Films and Lionsgate have revealed the newest poster to Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, featuring the infamous Pyramid Head holding out a huge blade as prisoners in the Otherworld hold out their hands in torment! Based on Konami's survival horror franchise of the same name and a sequel to the 2006 Silent Hill film, Revelation 3D is an adaptation of the video game Silent Hill 3, and features Adelaide Clemens as Heather Mason and Sean Bean returning as Christopher Da Silva, who assumes the name "Harry Mason". Silent Hill: Revelation reveals itself in theaters this October 26!

It's been a long time coming, but after months of waiting and little news popping out of the woodwork, Open Road Films and Lionsgate have released the first official trailer to Michael J. Bassett's film adaptation of Silent Hill 3, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D. As a sequel to the 2006 Silent Hill film, this film takes place years after the events of that film, and sees Sean Bean returning as Christopher Da Silva, or "Harry Mason" and Rahda Mitchell as Rose Da Silva. Adelaide Clemins takes the main protagonist role as Harry's daughter Heather Mason, and Mr. Bean's fellow Game Of Thrones co-star Kit Harington plays Vincent. Carrie-Anne Moss and Malcolm McDowell also co-star as Claudia and Leonard Wolf.

While browsing around the interwebz, I stumbled upon this on a post in Kotaku - a fan made Silent Hill film that actually looks good as it is creepy! Entitled "Silent Hill: Stolen Heart", the 5 minute feature was directed by Paul Leeming, and was filmed in an abandoned mining town that actually looks like Silent Hill itself given the proper effects and fog! Do check out this wonderful treat for fans by fans, which was released just a few weeks ago!

The Confined does awesome Silent Hill goodness!

After navigating through my usual web searches, I found this awesome little Silent Hill tribute made by fans of the dreaded survival horror franchise created by Konami! Called "The Confined". With the terrifying creatures created by Nathan A. Quattrini and featured in Kotaku, the three minute clip is something truly worth beholding for fans of the cursed and haunted town that's plagued 7 games and a live action film so far, with an 8th installment and second flick already in the works to scare more people out of their wits with their own worst fears manifesting themselves into dark caricatures that'll eat them alive! Check this 3 minute clip of this wonderful fan film below, directed by Leo Kei Angelos (who also did a fan film for Dragon Age), with the full thing slated for a release this fall!

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D Update: First official movie image and details released!

It appears that shooting has gone underway for the next Silent Hill movie, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, and now movie news site Collider has the big scoop and first official image up from the movie, featuring Adelaide Clemens as Heather Mason, the protagonist and star of the Konami survival horror videogame Silent Hill 3, which Revelations is based upon. Kit Harington is also slated to star, but no role has been announced for the Game of Thornes actor yet. Shooting has begun officially March 7 and is currently taking place in Toronto, with Michael J. Bassett directing and writing the film, as well as shooting the entire thing in 3D.

Personally, I was a big fan and supporter of the way the first Silent Hill movie turned out despite its flaws. The movie got the creepiness and vibe from the games right, but it didn't really pull off the full effect of creepiness thanks to the needless addition of the townsfolk that resulted in a lackluster climax and ending. Regardless of all that, Christoph Gans and Roger Avery did an ok job in establishing the proper tone in accordance with the atmosphere seen in the games, and I'm hoping this sequel under the direction of Bassett retains this and does more to accomplish what fans of the franchise and videogames in general are hoping for: a decent and successful videogame movie adaptation. I'm not holding my breath here, but looking at the picture above and comparing it to the Heather Mason I remember from the games, there's a bit of optimism sparking inside of me. Silent Hill: Revelation 3D director talks!

After hearing the news that a new Silent Hill is officially underway and based on the third video game installment's plot, I couldn't be more hopeful to watch another big screen adaptation featuring that haunted little town. Now, the film's new director has opened up and served up his initial reactions a week after the big announcement was made.

Via his own official blog, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D writer and director Michael J. Bassett expresses his own excitement and enthusiasm at being picked to make the next film, citing that he's a fan of the games and enjoyed the last film helmed by Christoph Gans. He also says that he aims to bring a little more darkness and fear into the mix, but try to retain the same feel as the games and hire as much of the previous film's core-creative team as he can. Silent Hill 3 will be made into "Silent Hill: Revelation".

Horror site Fangoria and video game blog site Kotaku have posted some interesting news for Silent Hill fans. The next movie adaptation based on the Konami survival horror series has finally been given the green light, and will be based on one of the better entries of the video game series, Silent Hill 3. After four years in development with slow news and updates, the sequel to 2006's Silent Hill will be titled "Silent Hill: Revelation", and will be produced by Lionsgate, Konami, and Davis Films. Michael J. Bassett, whose credentials include Solomon Kane and Deathwatch, will bewriting and directing the film, replacing Christophe Gans and Roger Avery on those roles respectively. The movie will also be apparently shot in 3D, to give viewers a choice between that and conventional theater viewing.

Personally, this is exciting news for me as a Silent Hill fan. The third game had one of the best stories in the series to date. It was a follow up to the original Silent Hill, in which players too control of a teenage girl named Heather, who was eventually revealed to be the daughter of the first game's protagonist, Harry Mason. Here's the official synopsis from Fangoria:

"For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand," reads the official synopsis. "Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever."

E3 2010: Silent Hill 8

It was inevitable. Gamers are going back to Silent Hill by 2011. The question is... will it be good? Check out the new trailer to find out.

Shown at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, Konami hasn't given the full title to this latest installment in their survival horror series, but it's tentatively called "Silent Hill 8", so it's expected to be official and canon to the series extensive and somewhat convoluted history. By the looks of the trailer alone, everything we see here is in-game graphics, and the story sees the main character as a prisoner on the run ala The Fugitive, finding "sanctuary" from the law in Silent Hill, where he'll most likely find himself wishing he was back behind bars after he goes through the local attractions there.

Silent Hill 8 is confirmed for a PS3 and Xbox 360 release sometime in 2011.
