Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 Announced Also For PS4, 18 Minutes of Gameplay Footage Released

 

One of the most eagerly awaited retro collections is getting another console added to its release and availability! The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 is coming to PS4 in addition to its release for PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam, meaning more fans who still haven’t upgraded to current generation systems will have the option of playing it in Sony’s last gen console too!

Fans of the Metal Gear Solid franchise who have wanted to see the original games rereleased for modern platforms are finally getting their wish, as Konami has officially announced that the “Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1” is set to make its way to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Steam on October 24!

Oscar Isaac cast as Solid Snake in Jordan Vogt-Roberts' Metal Gear Solid movie

 

The internet has exploded and we get the fitting "!" sign in our heads, as Deadline has reported that "Star Wars" Sequel Trilogy and "Dune" star Oscar Isaac has been cast as Solid Snake in the upcoming live-action Metal Gear Solid movie to be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts! The film is currently in development by Sony Pictures, and is based on the Tactical Espionage Action video game series of the same name created by Hideo Kojima that started in the original PlayStation way back in 1998.

Isaac is keeping pretty busy now that he's playing the legendary soldier who was a member of Foxhound. In addition to Snake, he was also recently tapped to play Moon Knight in the upcoming Marvel Studios TV Series for Disney +. This is definitely a good time for the Guatamelan-American actor!

No word yet on when Metal Gear Solid will be released, but we finally have a face behind Solid Snake!

In what seems like a long time since the last bit of exciting news was shared about the project, Metal Gear Solid movie director JordanVogt-Roberts took to his Twitter to share some pretty awesome stuff - including some new concept art that you can see above from Form Language Studio featuring the pretty recognizable bipedal weapon that is Metal Gear Rex!

The director also shared an awesome CODEC call video, featuring the voices of actors David Hayter, Paul Eiding, and Christopher Randolph - as they reprised their signature roles as Solid Snake, Roy Campbell, and Otacon respectively for an #MGSQuarantine message!

Metal Gear Solid: David Hayter and Robin Atkin Downes dub "Heiwa to Kazuhira no Blues"

In what has been one of the most requested pieces of Metal Gear media to be translated to English, Metal Gear voice acting legends David Hayter and Robin Atkin Downes - who each voiced Snake/ Big Boss and Kazuhira "Kaz" Miller" in the Metal Gear Solid series - have released a fan service tribute that honors their time in "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker", the 20th Anniversary of the release of "Metal Gear Solid", and "Veteran's Day" worldwide - the MGS Peace Walker Sauna Track or "Heiwa to Kazuhira no Blues/ Blues of Peace and Kazuhira".

Originally released on September 22, 2010 - the official CD Drama companion to Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker was written by Hideo Kojima and performed by Snake and Kaz's Japanese voice actors, Akio Otsuka and Tomakazu Sugita respectively. The CD contained remixes of songs released in the Peace Walker soundtrack, as well as "extended briefing file tapes" and other audio special to the release. Now, Snake and Kaz's US Voice Actors have released their version of the audio drama itself. Take a listen below.

Celebrating 43 years of fighting evil mechanical beasts and protecting humanity from evil, Go Nagai's Mazinger Z is truly one of the epic legends of Japanese Popculture, and is arguably considered the "Grandfather" of the Super Robot genre! Pilot Koji Kabuto and his robot companion have landed Rocket Punches, Rust Hurricanes, and Breast Fires in several mediums, but everything started way back in October 2, 1972 when the first manga volume was released on the Weekly Shonen Jump, followed by the classic anime series on December 3 that same year.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain: Limited Edition PS4 unboxing video by Geek Culture

With just TWO DAYS left until the latest chapter in the saga started by Hideo Kojima gets its worldwide release, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is generating a lot of positive buzz and reviews courtesy of the media and gaming market. Focusing on the continued story of one Naked Snake/ Venom Snake as he completes his evolution into the legendary soldier known as "Big Boss", this game will be open-world and redefines "Tactical Espionage Operations" as we know it, as well as it being the controversial last entry Mr. Kojima will work on with Konami after a dispute between the game developer and company that will see the former tender in his resignation following the game's release.

That being said, the game will also be offered alongside a LIMITED EDITION Playstation 4 console that is decorated appropriately after Venom Snake's robotic arm colors and bearing the Diamond Dogs insignia. Popculture fansite "Geek Culture" offers a first look at the unboxing of the Asia version of the MGSV TPP LE PS4... And it looks downright GORGEOUS.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain: "Stained in Blood" poster released by Hideo Kojima

In what is surely one of the most anticipated and controversial games coming out in a few months time, Konami and Hideo Kojima have released a brand new poster promoting the latest entry in the long running Metal Gear Solid series with "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain", which features Venom Snake/ Big Boss and the new character Quiet on the one sheet, all covered in blood and looking ready to take on anything coming against them.

The poster, tweeted by Kojima and posted on Comic Book.com, comes with the tagline in Japanese that's translated as "Stained in Blood, The Aftermath of Revenge", which pertains to Snake and his army MSF/ Diamond Dogs mission seeking vengeance for the atrocities committed against them. The poster also evidently lacks the "A Hideo Kojima Game" label that is always associated with every MGS game, as internal tensions and issues between Konami and Kojima-san will see the latter depart from the company after work on The Phantom Pain in finished.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be released on September 1.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater turns 10 Years old this day

It's hard to imagine that one of the most important games of the sixth-generation of console gaming is already a decade old... And it still resonates with fans of the franchise to this day!

Originally released on November 17, 2004 for the Playstation 2, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater has officially turned 10 years today, and the game remains a critically acclaimed video game as well as one of the most important installments of Konami's long-running Metal Gear series created by Hideo Kojima. The game is set in 1964, and introduces gamers to the origins of Naked Snake, the man who will grow to become the legendary soldier known as "Big Boss", and his "Baptism of Fire" through his very first mission to put a stop to a deadly nuclear weapon and assassinate a central figure important to him that will change his life forever.

Changing the rules and breaking boundaries, Snake Eater went on to have several re-releases and ports through the years, with the most recent being an HD re-release in the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PS Vita. If you haven't dived into a Metal Gear game yet and want to experience first hand the events that lead up to the upcoming game that is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, then this is the game you should start with and play before anything else.

GamesCom 2014: Hideo Kojima teams w/ Guillermo Del Toro for Silent Hills w/ Norman Reedus; Metal Gear Solid V comes to PC

Konami is on a roll for Gamescom 2014, and it's all thanks to Hideo Kojima.

In addition to the man himself appearing and "teasing" more of his upcoming epic that is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain with "a demonstration" of the new abilities of the Cardboard Box, the acclaimed video game developer and leader of Kojima Productions has also confirmed his involvement in a new Silent Hill game called "Silent Hills", which he'll be working on together with "Pacific Rim" and "Hellboy" director Guillermo Del Toro, with "The Walking Dead" and Daryl Dixon actor himself Norman Reedus set to star in it! As reported in Kotaku, That "P.T" announcement that was shown in the Sony Playstation Conference was pretty much the new Silent Hill's teaser, so Kojima has surprised us once again with goodness to come.

Also, Kotaku has put up a report that pretty much confirms that Metal Gear Solid V as a whole is coming to PC and Steam

As for a release date for these titles, that has yet to be confirmed... For now.

MGS Update: Walking By Some Peace Walker!

The Metal Gear Solid series is one of my favorite videogame franchises that I have had the privilege of experiencing from the moment it began in 1997, during the golden years of the original Sony Playstation. It can be said that Hideo Kojima weaved together a beautiful military drama masterpiece, rought with danger and laced with espionage themed action that would make even the most experienced player crack under pressure. I've gone through the motions of each installment, and arguably all of them have unique qualities about them that firmly establishes each one as a classic that stands the test of time. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for lead protagonist Solid Snake, who by leaps and bounds has sailed through his final and most tedious mission yet with 2008's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots. That game, for the life of me, is sheer excellence when it comes to gameplay perfection, and it was practically the sole reason why I had to get Sony's monolith next and now current generation console, the Playstation 3. Now that it's done and finished, the adventures of Solid Snake have come to an end... but that doesn't mean the series is over. Fans have this baby to look forward to:



Oh yes, we've seen the trailers and previews these past few months, but here's a look at the official North American box art to Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker! Naked Snake, aka Big Boss and the protagonist of MGS 3: Snake Eater and the MGS: Portable Ops series, will be returning to the frontlines in this one, and will once again have to fend off enemies and avert a major crisis from happening. The great thing about this game, however, is that heavy emphasis will be placed on co-op and multiplayer, and that takes full advantage of PSP Capabilities. Up to four players can join in the fray, with two engaging in main missions, while four duke it out against powerful adversaries in boss missions. The standard MGS play formula has been tweaked slightly to adjust to this new gameplay style, and after playing Demo Ops alongside my fellow gamer friend Billy, I can attest how fresh and sound Peace Walker will feel and play upon its release this coming June. Looking Forward To Some Peace Walker...

Many gamers out there can't wait to experience Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the Playstation Portable next year, but there's a demo out at least to tide fans over while Konami and Kojima Productions work hard to make the next chapter in the Naked Snake saga another epic game to remember. In the meantime, scope out some of these fine artwork from the game itself as posted in Kotaku. It's not only the future Big Boss spotlighting the visuals, the other characters are there too, and some of them will look EXTREMELY familiar to fans of the franchise.

Pre-TGS Madness: Some Exciting Gaming News...

Oooh gaming news... Lots and lots of gaming news.

Hot on the heels of this week's Tokyo Game Show, a couple of announcements made by various gaming companies suddenly fueled my expectations and made me more hopeful for what's to come in the next year or so. Most of these were reported by the good folks from Kotaku, so read away and get pumped before we hear more major announcements in the next few days:


Resident Evil 5's getting a director's cut? That's what Patricia Ja Lee, the voice of Jill Valentine in RE5, is saying. Speculation still up in the air, and it could just be a new DLC the game's getting, but the word is out via Kotaku, so you check the news link here.


I'm still crossing my fingers about Yakuza 3 making it stateside, but SEGA already promises to show the next installment in the series in the TGS. A sneak peak of the trailer has already made its way to Kotaku, so take a looksie at the vid above if you're curious about what Mr. Kiryu's going to deal with next in Yakuza 4.

We all know about that God Of War Collection coming out at the end of this year, but did you know that Sony's bundling a voucher along with it that will allow you to download and play the exclusive demo of God Of War III? I find it hard to believe myself, but it's about damn time we get a taste of Kratos' new adventure before the game hits next year.

Kotaku has an article up showcasing more characters that will be appearing in Hideo Kojima's new and upcoming Metal Gear game for the PSP, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. While most of them are relatively new, one of them is an old face that makes his long awaited return (or debut to be chronologically precise) in the series. I'm talking about none other than McDonell "Master" Miller, FOXHOUND's Survival Trainer who was killed and replaced by Liquid Snake during the events of MGS1. It's good to see the expert back in an MGS game, but what will his role be? Time will tell for sure.

Arc Systems has announced a new expansion to Blazblue, their latest fighter and the spiritual successor to the Guilty Gear series. Entitled "Blazblue: Continuum Shift", the expansion will include the once unplayable character Tsubaki Yayoi as the latest addition to the game's growing roster. New stages and a refined HUD are also expected with the new release, so am looking forward to this update by next year.

That's about it for now. Here's to more major announcements to come in the TGS. I hope to get blown away by the surprises... if there's any.
