Happy 90th Birthday, James Earl Jones!

 

One of the most talented and versatile actors in Hollywood is celebrating his birthday today, as Tony Award winner? Broadway actor, and the voice of Darth Vader himself James Earl Jones turns 90! With a distinguished career that includes appearances in Dr. Strangelove, Claudine, Conan The Barbarian, Coming to America, The Hunt for Red October, and voicing King Mufasa in The Lion King - Jones is known for his deep and distinguishable voice” that is instantly recognizable to those that hear him.

Jones is set to reprise his role as King Jaffe Joffer in Coming 2 America - the sequel to the 1988 comedy original which also has Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall back as well!

Happy Birthday to Takeru Satoh! Rurouni Kenshin and Kamen Rider Den-O star turns 31 this year

It's hard to believe that it's been over a decade since we got to know Takeru Satoh - who burst into the Tokusatsu world scene with his starring role as Ryotaro Nogami in the "Kamen Rider Den-O" series. His popularity would only skyrocket even further when he was cast as Kenshin Himura in the live-action "Rurouni Kenshin" films, and after playing the role for three installments - one released in 2012 and two in 2014, he's back to play the slasher turned wandering swordsman in two brand new films once again directed by Keishi Otomo this year in "Rurouni Kenshin: The Final" and "Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning".

Today, March 21st, marks Satoh's 31st birthday celebration. The Rurouni Kenshin Movie Facebook page has posted a cool Behind The Scenes picture featuring the actor in Kenshin attire but wearing a robe while not filming and being followed by an assistant taking care of his wig. Also, the actor has launched a YouTube channel, with his first video being a live discussion and also talking about how long it took to film the new RK films. Avengers: Age Of Ultron: New Promo Art shows Ultron victorious, and Happy Birthday, James Spader!

"There Are... No Strings On Me." And if those words weren't proof enough of how dangerous things are going to get for Earth's Mightiest Heroes when Avengers: Age Of Ultron hits theaters this May, then that new promo artwork from Tony Stark Sincero and Superherohype showing the big baddie himself victorious is a Stark reminder (literally) of the hard battle to come.

The Avengers' own Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo celebrate their birthdays today!

Two of Earth's Mightiest Heroes from the big screen celebrate their birthdays today, and they happen to be the actors who portray the femme fatale spy and Green Goliath of the Avengers respectively!

Born in November 22nd, 1984, the beautiful and talented Scarlett Johansson, who portrays Black Widow, turns 30 years old, while her Avengers co-star and Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo turns 47! Both characters are set  to return alongside Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Jeremy Renner for Avengers: Age of Ultron next year, and they will certainly be more action to come in the Marvel Studios film sequel that's once again directed by Joss Whedon!

It's a wonder and coincidence that these two share the same birthday! Perhaps that's why hints of chemistry and possible on-screen romance are blooming for the Avengers sequel between these two? We'll just have to wait and see come May 1, 2015!

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Christopher Nolan celebrate birthdays on The year of Batman's 75th Anniversary

July is about to end, but yesterday on the 30th of the month, two of Hollywood's most iconic talents celebrated their respective birthdays. Both can officially say that they were part of the long running Batman franchise, and while one's trip wasn't as memorable as the other, it still stands along the 75 years of adventure and legacy associated with the Dark Knight's legacy.

Pumping Iron. Action Star. Governator. Whatever you call him or know about him, legendary Hollywood actor and former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger just turned 67 this year. Batfans will remember him for his portrayal of the cool and cruel "Mister Freeze" in Joel Schumacher's disappointing and forgettable 1997 movie that was "Batman and Robin", but there's no denying that the Austrian-born actor has done a lot through his career!

And of course, the man behind The Dark Knight Trilogy himself, Christopher Nolan, turns 44. The British-American film director is also known for his works "Memento" and "Inception", and has a new film coming up this year that you probably have heard about. It's called Interstellar.

So there you have it for July! The celebrations and many happy returns greetings go to these two Hollywood icons, and more stuff will surely come for Batman's 75th Anniversary this year!

EXCELSIOR!!! Today's the birthday of one of the greatest talents of comic history, as comic writer and editor Stanley Martin Lieber, aka Stan "The Man" Lee, turns 91!

The immortal creator of popular Marvel heroes such as Spider-Man, The X-Men, The Incredible Hulk, and The Fantastic Four is one of the most iconic names in popculture, and is still present and appears in many forms of media, including cameo appearances in several Marvel films based on his works! For sure, he'll be appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier next year, so watch out for him True Believers!

Coming back in a month and ready to explode with another chapter of the ongoing story of Rick Grimes and his band of survivors against the zombie apocalypse, AMC has released a new "Extended Trailer" promoting the 4th Season of The Walking Dead. Featuring new footage interspersed with the recent ones seen in the Comic Con Trailer released a few months ago, the new teaser also features short interviews from the Cast and Crew behind the popular TV Series, giving fans more insight as to what to expect from the new batch of episodes set to premiere this October.

Happy Birthday Superman! Action Comics #1 celebrates 75th Anniversary

As Superman prepares to grace theaters once more with a new interpretation of the character with "Man Of Steel", the comic world celebrates the character's birthday as April 18 marks the 75th anniversary of  his first appearance in Action Comics #1!

Published by DC Comics' predecessor National Allied Publications, the first issue of Action had a publication date of June, 1938 stamped on its iconic cover of Superman carrying a car and terrifying criminals, but was actually published on this same day back on April 18, 1938. Currently known as the most expensive comic book to date and selling for $2 Million just for an original copy, Action Comics #1 was a compilation of amazing stories that helped usher in not just Superman, but a collection of other powerful individuals that helped usher in the age of the Super-Hero.

I think it goes without saying that we all remember the man behind the cape and legend. Today we celebrate what would have been his 60th birthday, and despite the tragic challenges and obstacles he had to endure because of paralysis that left him a paraplegic for life, he'll always be remembered for being an inspiration and a person who overcame all obstacles. We believed that a man could fly back in 1978, and he makes us believe that we can accomplish anything even in the after life.

Depending on what part of the world you are (and it's already January 31 as of this writing), Today, January 30, is the birthday of one of the most distinguished actors to ever grace the silver screen - Christian Bale. Turning 38 years old this day, the British actor best known for his role as Bruce Wayne/ Batman sees his latest and final bow as The Caped Crusader later this year when "The Dark Knight Rises" shows in theaters this July 20th, and he's also earned an Academy for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in "The Fighter" last 2010. For all his achievements in the last 25 years since he started acting, Bale has been a recognizable force in the acting and Hollywood community. Many happy returns, good sir!

The Man of Steel turns 73!

The month of May yields a lot of pleasant surprises, for May 3 happens to be the day 73 years ago when Action Comics #1 was released and introduced to the world one of the most beloved and iconic heroes the world has ever known - Superman! Co-created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics, the Kryptonian born Kal-El would be the last survivor of his planet sent to Earth by his parents; Adopted by a loving earth couple and given the name Clark Kent, who would be raised up with a strong moral conscience and go on to champion the cause of "Truth, Justice, and the American Way", serving as a symbol of hope and justice against all evildoers!

Several publications in DC Comics and other forms of media have featured Supes fighting the good fight, but his milestone issue of Action Comics #900 just hit comic shops last week (with him renouncing his American Citizenship in a back up feature by famed screenwriter David Koepp). With a new movie reboot directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill in the titular role slated for release on fall next year, it just proves that this "Man of Steel" is still popular as ever. 73 years and counting, he continues to be an inspiration to fans and peeps the world over! With that in mind, there's only one thing left to be said:

72 Years of Dark Knight Crusading...

72 years ago on April 25, a certain Caped Crusader made his debut in Detective Comics #27, basking the comic world with his influence and steadily spreading his crime fighting adventures to a generation of young readers. Happy 19th Birthday, Sonic The Hedgehog!

Back in my early gaming years, I was more of a Sega guy than a Super NES player during the infamous 16-Bit "Console Wars" generation. It wasn't just because I owned a Mega Drive console (my cousin had a SNES I could play as well); the line-up of games SEGA chugged on back then were pretty impressive, and titles like Altered Beast, Bare Knuckle, Shinobi, Spider-Man vs The Kingpin, and even a port of Street Fighter II already kept me happy as can be. However, anyone who owned a Mega Drive or Genesis can attest to the fact that there was one game in the list that was easily a MUST PLAY title. I'm sure those who bought a Genesis the first time got this packed along with the machine. This game's arguably synonymous with the system itself!

Yes, Today is the 19th year anniversary of the release of the original Sonic The Hedgehog game for the Sega Mega Drive/ Genesis, and conversely, it's also Sonic The Hedgehog's birthday! That's right, everybody's favorite little blue hedgehog celebrates almost two decades of existence, and it's hard to believe that it all started in 1991, turning into a lucrative franchise that has persisted through several generations of console platforms. To celebrate this occasion in gaming history, this post will be all about how I remember the heroic freedom fighter, and how much he meant to me then, as well as now.

In many ways, Sonic was Sega's answer to Nintendo's Mario, only that instead of relying on headjumps and mushrooms, this guy excelled using his most famous asset - his speed, to conquer evil and take back his home planet Mobius from the evil reign of Dr. Robotnik (Dr. Eggman in Japan). Controlling and playing the character was similar to any Mario game sure, but there were obvious differences. He collected rings that served as his extended "lifebar", and roamed around several zones to fight and free his roboticized friends, as well as face Robotnik numerous times. That was how I remembered playing Sonic for the most part, and the game's success spawned several sequels on the Genesis, earning him a sidekick and more allies in the fight to free Mobius from tyranny. Sonic 2 was actually my favorite in the series, but the first game also holds a special place in my list, especially with its awe-inspiring soundtrack. Ah 16-Bit music, how I missed you.

Besides his "way past cool" attitude, what I enjoyed about Sonic was the thrill of playing the character and experiencing his adventures hand-on. Apart from the sequels that followed in the Genesis, more titles eventually popped up as Sega began producing more powerful consoles to further their evolution in the gaming industry. Probably the other Sonic series I appreciated the most was the Sonic Adventure games for the Dreamcast. Sure, it wasn't 2D sidescrolling platform gaming anymore, but there was something appealing about playing this new three dimensional take on the blue hedgehog's adventures, especially with Sonic Adventure 2, which brought a whole new meaning to the words "fun" and "speed". Same emphasis was still placed on spinning, running, collecting rings, and evading/ defeating bad guys, but these Sonic games were on a completely different level compared to the classics, and that was somewhat of a good thing back in the day. Heck, Sonic even got his own comic book and cartoon series to boot, and I used to follow the latter in Cartoon Network diligently. There were several animated shows, but my favorite was the one with Princess Sally and the freedom fighters, offering a more serious form of storytelling to the hedgehog's escapades.

Unfortunately, the day came when Sega decided to pull out of the console business and focus all of its efforts into producing games only, and Sonic practically became a "free agent", meaning the property could appear in any console that was formerly a competitor. As such, Sonic teamed up with his once eternal rival, Mario, and through several crossover games, fans finally had the chance to duke it out - Plumber vs Hedgehog. That was not to say that Sonic didn't have his own series of solo games produced anymore - there were several in fact. Unfortunately, they didn't capture the charm of the character, and recent attempts strayed away from what made the character cool in the first place. Luckily, all that is about to change with the upcoming 2010 release of the "true sequel" to the series - Sonic 4: Episode 1. The blue hedgehog returns to sidescrolling action in a 2.5D setting. Everything old is new again, and if it wins the appreciation of the fans once it comes out, then it would be a fitting gift to the hedgehog's 19 years of existence.

With several games, cartoons, and even a comic book series published by Archie Comics, Sonic is truly one of the best gaming characters I've had the privilege and pleasure of knowing since I got into gaming all those years ago. He certainly entertained many with his cocky attitude, and he remains a cool character through and through, and we have artist Naoto Oshima, designer Hirokazu Yasuhara, programmer Yuji Naka, and Sonic Team to thank for. Happy Birthday, Sonic The Hedgehog!

Awesome Birthday Gear!

I'd like to take this opportunity to say a big thanks to all who greeted this crusader on his Birthday yesterday! As fun and festive as it may sound, it was just a simple day for me to relax and make the smooth transition to a new age, literally! I did get some new goodies to enjoy though, and some of the most memorable gifts I got were these:



Yes... Left 4 Dead 2! The first game totally blew my mind away when I played it about a year ago, and now fans of the zombie apocalypse already have a sequel to gun for! Sure, it may sound a little bit too soon, but the new maps, monsters, and challenges are well worth the price of admission if you're "dead tired" of the old campaigns or mods from the first game. Net connection has been pretty wonky lately, so I yet to play through the entire game. Still, I finally return to PC gaming with this one... and so let the real zombieland battles commence!XD



Another landmark gaming comeback is my official return to Liberty City! Over a year since its release, I finally got Grand Theft Auto IV for the Playstation 3... and it's absolutely amazing! Redesigned and defined for the new console generation, this is one GTA I have been waiting to get my hands on for a long time, but several other good games and set backs prevented me from experiencing Niko Bellic's adventure until now. Sure, I still have Assassin's Creed 2 to enjoy, but after playing and experiencing its GTA like play style, I just had to go back to the source and play through one of the pioneers of the "open world" gaming experience.



Next to the games, I received some comic book goodness for the bday as well in the form of the GL saga that precedes the events of Blackest Night... The Sinestro Corps War! This is one of the DC storylines that has EPIC written all over it, and every big gun and evil known to the GL and DC universe makes an appearance here. Mainstay writer Geoff Johns shows how the green and yellow get it on, and tells a tale that shapes up events that lead to the "War Of The Light", a war between the colors of the emotional spectrum that eventually brings about the coming of the "Blackest Night". Fear and willpower collide big time on this one!

Oh yes, there's lots of birthday stuff to enjoy, and so little time to do so!
