Marvel's next big crossover is the Venom event "King in Black"

While "Empyre" rages on as the current summer event and crossover spanning several titles in the Marvel Comics universe, the House of Ideas is already gearing up for its next offering at the end of 2020 - and it's a Venom centered storyline that has been building up for the past two years in the character's solo title and tie-in crossovers that will finally see fruition come December.

Say hello to "King in Black" - which will see the God of Symbiotes, Knull, come to Earth and deal with the symbiote we know best - Venom aka Eddie Brock and his "other". The story will be written by Donny Cates and illustrated by Ryan Stegman - reuniting the Venom team and also seeing the other heroes and characters of the Marvel Universe - including Spider-Man, the Avengers, and the X-Men joining in on the fight - which will definitely spell a lot of disaster and carnage as they try to repel the oncoming attack. Venom: First official look at Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock in new production photo

Set for release at fall next year and acting as the first spin-off of Sony Pictures' new "Spider-Man Film Universe" following their latest Spidey film "Spider-Man: Homecoming", the first official production photo picture from the film has been released in the movie's official Twitter account - and it features actor Tom Hardy's first look as Eddie Brock - who is sporting black hair, tattoos, and is looking like he's brooding about something. The actual plot of the movie is still a mystery, but rumors point to it being inspired by the "Lethal Protector" storyline of the 90's where Venom becomes hunted by mercenaries and is on the path to being a hero... Albeit a very dangerous one.

Venom will be released in theaters on October 3, 2018 in the USA.

Tom Hardy cast as Eddie Brock for "Venom" in 2018

Looks like a very big guy who has played a comic book villain before will once again suit up as certain "Lethal Protector", as English actor Tom Hardy has been cast to play the part of Eddie Brock in Sony Pictures' upcoming "Venom" movie! Tweeted by Sony themselves (with a pic of Hardy wearing a Venom shirt above) and reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be set in Sony's new Spider-Man centered universe that begins with Spider-Man: Homecoming this year, and will be directed by Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer.

Certainly no stranger to Spider-Man fans, Venom is well known as the union between Eddie Brock and the Black alien symbiote that Spider-Man brought back from the "Secret Wars" as his new costume. While the symbiote has transferred and bonded with other hosts over the years (including Flash Thompson), Brock remains the original Venom and has recently returned to that role in comics. With Tom Hardy having experience playing bulky characters in "Bronson" and as Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises", it's a sure bet that this is one of the best casting choices made in films yet.

Venom is expected to be released on October 5, 2018.

Venom #1: Todd McFarlane variant is a classic remastered panel from "ASM #299"

In what is certainly a "blast from the past" piece of artwork that featured the very first appearance of one of Spider-Man's greatest enemies in the late 80's, the upcoming new "Venom" series Marvel is cooking up is going to reuse and recolor existing artwork by Todd McFarlane that was seen in The Amazing Spider-Man #299 and was the issue that saw the first appearance of Eddie Brock as Venom. As reported by Newsarama along with an interview with McFarlane himself, hat panel has been remastered and given a new lease in life as one of the variants of "Venom #1" - which is still a mystery as to who will be the new host of Peter Parker's former symbiote suit.

Time will tell for sure what's the deal with "new" Venom, but expect the issue on November 23rd from Marvel comics themselves.
