The Superior Spider-Man Returns With Giant Sized One-Shot This October

One of the most daring and ambitious events in Spider-Man history is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and Marvel is celebrating that occasion by reuniting the creative duo that brought the series to the forefront with Doc Ock as the Superior Spider-Man!

Coming this October, “The Superior Spider-Man Returns” will be a special giant sized one-shot that will bring the aggressive webslinging hero back to the forefront. Back in 2013, the Amazing Spider-Man #700 saw Otto Octavios do the impossible - defeat his nemesis Peter Parker by swapping bodies with him and becoming Spider-Man. However he also inherited his nemesis’ sense of power and responsibility, and aimed to become his own version of the wallcrawler by transforming into a “Superior Spider-Man”.

The one-shot will reunite writer Dan Slott with artist Ryan Stegman, and will also see other talents such as Mark Bagley, Humberto Ramos, and Giuseppe Camuncoli join in for the ride. Read more details via Marvel.com!

Alex Ross reveals cover to "Amazing Spider-Man #20" - DOC OCK LIVES AGAIN

Looks like a familiar Spider-Man villain is making his long awaited return from the dead, as Alex Ross revealed via his Facebook page his amazing cover to Marvel's "Amazing Spider-Man #20" - which shows Doctor Octopus back in his own body and tearing the mask of the webslinger apart!

While no details on exactly how Doc Ock comes back has been revealed, those who follow current ASM series written by Dan Slott know that after seemingly sacrificing his brain to restore Peter Parker back to his own body during the events of "Superior Spider-Man", Ock was able to make a back up of his mind in the robotic body of the "Living Brain". With the major Spidey event "Dead No More" fast approaching, it's a no brainer that Otto Octavius will return as a result of the events of that storyline.

SDCC '13: Superior Spider-Man faces Flash Venom in "Darkest Hours"

As SDCC' 13 kicks onward, so does the big news on a certain "Superior" wall-crawler!

Things may be looking up for the Superior Spider-Man currently, but come the next few months, it's going to be a dark road ahead for Doc Ock's new life as he comes face to face with another individual leading a new legacy as well... Flash Thompson, aka Venom!

Announced in the San Diego Comic Con via Marvel's own Superior Spider-Man panel, writer Dan Slott is putting these two unlikely heroes in the same place and the same time come November in Superior Spider-Man #22, as a new four-part story arc called "Darkest Hours" will see the new "Spidey" clash with the new "Venom". One can only wonder how this will turn out... And if things will ever be the same for the life Spider-Man.

Superior Spider-Man: May Spidey Solicitations reveal the end of Superior Spider-Man?

Since the end of the "Amazing era" last December 2012 and the subsequent debut of a new kind of Spider-Man come January 2013, Marvel has left fans divided over the fate of Peter Parker and his alter ego with "Superior Spider-Man". Despite the change in the status quo, it's been a terrific run by Dan Slott, and his gamble has certainly paid off in terms of telling a wealth of interesting stories. I've picked up the first three issues (with issue #3 arriving this month), and the action and drama from the changes isn't showing any signs stopping anytime soon... Until now that is.

Jumping a few months ahead, Marvel and Comic Book Resources have released a preview of the May solicitations for Spider-Man related titles, and it teases what may be the end of Superior Spidey as we know him now... And the return of a very familiar to boot! If you don't know what's actually happening in the pages of the new ongoing series, it's SPOILERIFIC territory from here on out.

SPOILERS AHEAD, So look ahead at your own risk!

MAJOR SPOILERS of course follow after this paragraph on what exactly those changes are, which were finalized in the major epic final issue of the flagship Spidey series of Marvel that was The Amazing Spider-Man #700 last December 2012. Now that a new year begins, so does a new status quo for Spidey... Which apparently affects his status as an Avenger!

NYCC '12: Spider-Man and Superman get new ongoing titles in 2013

Like a clash of thunder echoing in the air, two new titles were announced by "The Big 2" comic book companies known worldwide, namely DC Comics and Marvel, at this month's New York Comic Con. Both involve two of the best known superheroes ever, Spider-Man and Superman, and it's going to send shockwaves and excitement for readers who have jumped into the new initiatives both companies have carried out, that being DC Comics The New 52 and Marvel NOW! respectively.

Set to launch on January 2013, Amazing Spider-Man writer Dan Slott will team up with artists Ryan Stegman, Humberto Ramos, and Giuseppe Camuncoli on a new ongoing Spider-Man series called "Superior Spider-Man"! After the flagship title "The Amazing Spider-Man" ends with issue #700 this new book will replace it, seeing everyone's favorite Wall-Crawler upping the ante and changing his costume to relfect a darker tone. Read more on the announcement via Newsarama and USA Today.

Also announced that's sure to make waves in the comicdom is a new ongoing Superman title that will be part of DC Comics "New 52" universe. Penned by Scott Snyder and drawn by Jim Lee, the as of yet "Untitled Superman" comic will be launching in 2013, and most likely coinciding with the release of the new Superman reboot flick "Man Of Steel". Hopefully it will be akin to classic stories of Kal-El and his alter ego, as it will include Clark Kent's life as well and those closest to him. Check Newsarama for more details!
