ICYMI: Longtime Street Fighter series producer Yoshinori Ono announces departure from Capcom

After almost 30 years working with Capcom and undeniably helping steer one of its biggest IPs into a new renaissance, longtime Street Fighter series producer Yoshinori announced on the eve of his birthday (which is today) that he is departing from the company and resigning from his post as Capcom Brand Manager.

Here's the man's official Tweet.

Without Ono-San, we wouldn't have seen a fighting game resurgence come forth - as he was among the figureheads behind the release of Street Fighter IV over a decade ago. Since then, the Street Fighter brand has been reinvigorated under his watch, and has seen projects like Street Fighter x Tekken (a crossover with Bandai Namco Games Tekken series) and Street Fighter V come to pass. He definitely has left an impression with fans - especially with carrying his signature Blanka toy and shouting "SHO-RYU-KEN" to hype up the community during events.

No matter the mixed opinions there are during his tenure, we owe Ono-San a debt of gratitude for his contributions to the Fighting Game scene and the community. I even recorded my own tribute to honor his career... And wish him a Happy Birthday!

Thank you for your contributions, Ono-San! Good luck in your future projects!

Happy Fourth of July and Happy Birthday Steve Rogers - aka Captain America!

Today is July 4th  - marking the celebration of Independence Day in the United States of America AND the fictional birthday of one of the greatest superheroes in comic book history! On this day on July 4, 1918 - Steven Grant Rogers was born in the Marvel Universe -  a scrawny kid with a sense of idealism, patriotism, and justice who would soon volunteer for "Project Rebirth" and be injected with the Super Soldier Serum to transform him into a powerful warrior for the allies in World War II. While it proved successful - he would end up being the only successful "Super Soldier" as the scientist responsible for the serum would be assassinated. Dedicating himself to become a symbol as much as a weapon for justice - Steve Rogers donned the stars and stripes, wielded the shield, and became the sentinel of liberty known as Captain America!

So yes, today is the birthday of Cap! Whether you know him from Marvel Comics, his time fighting in the present alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the Avengers, or his portrayal by Chris Evans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - the character of Steve Rogers doesn't just wear the flag and fight for America - he fights for the ideals and beliefs of the dream, freedom, and justice wherever it may be. I've been a fan of the character in many forms of media, and it's always been a treat to honor one of my favorite characters in comics - whether it be through my collection or through cosplay!

Happy Fourth of July and Happy Birthday, Captain America!

Great Scott! Back To The Future turns 35 years old today!

It's time to go back... Back To The Future! On this day of July 3rd back in 1985, Universal Pictures and director Robert Zemeckis released one of the most important Sci-Fi Adventure films ever released - which would shift the Earth's gravitational pull with the 1.21 Gigawatts of AWESOMENESS and inspire a legion of fans worldwide who would appreciate the tropes, themes, and that kickass DeLorean Time Machine that has become a pop culture icon in itself!

Back To The Future (1985) Theatrical Trailer

While many things can be said about the film's success and spawning two follow-up that would collectively be called the "Back To The Future Trilogy", the impact BTTF and its sequels gave to us cannot be understated. We absolutely loved Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as Marty McFly and Doc Emmett Brown, and their adventures through time back to the past and into the future have definitely inspired us as well as new viewers to this day. I definitely had to reminisce and make a tribute video - especially with Netflix putting up all three films this month and Hasbro making an upcoming Transformers toy of the DeLorean called "Gigawatt"!

Flashback Friday & 35 Years of "OUTATIME"! Happy Anniversary, Back To The Future!

Happy Anniversary, Back To The Future!

Catwoman 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Special was supposed to be released today

Today, April 15th, 2020, would have been the release of the "Catwoman 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Special" issue - a commemorative deluxe one-shot comic that would have celebrated the eight decades that Selina Kyle and her femme fatale alter ego has appeared in the pages of DC Comics since her debut in Batman #1 in Spring 1940. As the years have shown, Selina has grown into a complex and unpredictable fan-favorite character, starting off as a Cat-themed villainess before evolving into an anti-hero and of course the on-and-off romantic interest of Bruce Wayne/ Batman. That relationship was taken further in the early 2000's with Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee's epic "Batman: Hush" storyline, and the revisited in Tom King's run which almost resulted in the official union of "Bat Cat".

With the trying times and suspension of new comic book releases until further notice, let's commemorate Catwoman's 80th Anniversary by honoring her legacy - like with this collection of graphic novels, books, and figures I have amassed in the years I have been a collector and fan of  Batman, his world, and the rest of the DC Universe. Looking forward to getting that Super Special eventually when things get better for all of us.

Happy 80th Anniversary, Catwoman!

Resident Evil celebrates 24 years of Survival Horror

Released at this time 24 years ago first in Japan and later before the end of the month in North America, the original Resident Evil (known as "Biohazard" in Japan) coined the genre "Survival Horror" and went on to become one of the original Sony Playstation's best-selling titles. Telling the story of a group of special division police officers who are stranded inside a seemingly empty mansion, the game introduced zombies and other biological monstrosities as enemies while also forcing the player to conserve ammo, solve puzzles, and think smart while navigating either Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine out of the death trap location alive. This game would then get a re-release a year later in a "Director's Cut", before spawning an official follow-up in 1998 with Resident Evil 2 and then several other sequels and spin-offs through the years, and even an official Remake for the Nintendo Gamecube in 2002.

As one of the games that defined a generation, Resident Evil's legacy has certainly grown and expanded beyond the confines of its video game legacy - growing into a well known franchise that is constantly getting updates and retools - including a remake to "Resident Evil 3" coming this April that follows in the footsteps of last year's highly successful "Resident Evil 2 Remake". As a longtime fan of the series, it still manages to surprise me - especially with Easter Eggs that were previously unknown and I found out via a new episode by "Did You Know Gaming?"!

Resident Evil Easter Eggs - Did You Know Gaming? Feat. Dazz

Resident Evil 1 and its Remake are available in several console releases. Resident Evil 3 Remake will be released this April 3rd for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Resident Evil 2 was released 22 years ago for the Sony Playstation

22 years ago... Survival Horror got a double dose of action and terror by bringing the zombie apocalypse and Umbrella's biological monstrosities to Raccoon City - as Capcom unleashed one of the greatest games for the Sony Playstation on this day in 1998 with "Resident Evil 2".

Released in North America first on January 21, 1998 - the game that is also known as "Biohazard 2" was a direct continuation of the 1996 third person action adventure title that coined the genre "Survival Horror", and introduced us to two new protagonists in Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Set two months after the events of the first Resident Evil - our new heroes enter the fiction midwestern town of Raccoon City - lost to an outbreak and forcing them to find a way to escape and survive by any means necessary.

Resident Evil 2 Demo Trailer

Resident Evil 2 was a critical success for Capcom upon its release, and went on to sell nearly 6 million Playstation units - becoming one of the best-selling games of all time. Last year around this time, a remake of the game was released for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC - Telling essentially the same kind of story but sporting new graphics and paths for fans new and old to explore.

This title's importance in video game history cannot be overstated, and it is definitely a classic in many fans eyes, including this long time fan and survival horror player here. HAPPY 22 YEARS, RESIDENT EVIL 2!

Can't end the year without a THANK YOU 2019 collage!

2019 was something else - a year full of events, highlights, opportunities, and most important of all - changes. Through its ups and downs, there were things learned and things enjoyed, as well as bonding with those who matter in life and finding out more things about yourself as you make your way. As passionate as I am in popculture, arts, hobbies, and cosplay, it’s also being true as a person and showing faith and belief that we can all be good and inspiring examples to others. We learn to be better people, to forgive, and to believe in positive things - so we may look forward to new things and opportunities as we look to the new year ahead. That being said - IT WAS A WILD YEAR OF BATMAN, AVENGERS, SPIDER-MAN, RESIDENT EVIL 2, DEATH STRANDING, AND SO MUCH MORE! I got to meet celebrities like Henry Cavill, Ian McKellen, Hailee Steinfeld, Steven Ogg, & Michael Cudlitz, and attend awesome events like TOYCON, BatCon, and Spider-Con! And of course seeing awesome films like Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Doctor Sleep, It: Chapter 2, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. "The Witcher In Manila" Recap - Catch the series NOW on Netflix!

Over the weekend, Netflix finally released one of the most anticipated Fantasy properties to ever be released in mainstream popculture with "The Witcher" TV Series. Headed by showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and adapted from the popular Polish book series created by Andrzej Sapkowski, the series follows the adventures of a number of key individuals living in the fictional Continent, where all manners of kingdoms, beasts, and monsters exist and thrive for survival. Starring in this fantasy drama series is none other than English actor and self-professed gamer Henry Cavill, who plays the lead role of Geralt of Rivia - a witcher and monster hunter who lives in solitary and seeks to find purpose in this world where politics and greed make people more monsters than the beasts themselves.

Last December 12th, Netflix invited me and a couple of friends to a special event that was both intimate and spectacular - Showrunner Lauren Hissrich and Henry Cavill himself visited Manila to promote the release of "The Witcher"! Both guests first met the press and media for a press conference at Conrad hotel, which I myself attended and covered. Asked a series of questions about the show, from preparing for the role physically to doing his own stunts as Geralt, Cavill professed that he grew up reading fantasy stories and was a PC gamer himself. As "The Witcher" has spawned several video game adaptations that includes CD Projekt Red's Trilogy of games, it comes as no surprise that the actor was vying for the part of Geralt - and he got his wish to play one of the most fascinating adventurer roles ever that is adored by many around the world.

On the afternoon of the same day, I also covered a special "Fan Event" at the newly opened Ayala Malls Manila Bay, which Henry and Lauren also attended to meet and greet the fans who were looking forward to "The Witcher" and seeing the actor and showrunner in person. To say it was nothing short of breathtaking is an understatement - Henry Cavill took his time to meet those lucky to be nearby and in the barriers - signing autographs, memorabilia, and getting pictures with as much people as he possibly could.

With the atmosphere and excitement for the stars of the show complimented by some prizes, performances, and amazing cosplayers portyraying the main characters Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri,
I was fortunate enough to experience all of that and also meeting Henry in person as he gave off that wonderful smile he always does to everyone - Superman style.

After taking time to do fan service and greetings, Henry took to the stage to talk about The Witcher and greet the Filipino people with a "Mahal ko kayo".:)

Finally after all the excitement in the afternoon, we were treated to a special theatrical screening of the first episode of The Witcher - "The End's Beginning". Henry Cavill, Lauren Hissrich, and the rest of the Netflix team gave a special introductory message before the show, and then the lights went off and we journeyed to the Continent to meet Geralt,  Princess Ciri, and the rest of the characters in the story.

Without giving away too much, The Witcher is a fantasy drama show that will appeal to anybody who loves magic, demons, monster hunters, and following your destiny. It is now playing in Netflix and runs eight episodes for its first season.

August 31st is a very special day for Marvel fans worldwide, as the House of Ideas officially celebrates 80 years of existence and bringing to life many of the world's greatest superheroes! Beginning life as "Timely Publications/ Timely Comics" in 1939 - heroes such as Jim Hammond/ The Original Human Torch and the Star Spangled Avenger Captain America would lead the charge, and then inspire the creation of the Golden Age heroes of the 1960's such as Iron Man, Hulk, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and of course The Amazing Spider-Man.

As we honor the memories of legendary creators such as Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, and Jack Kirby, we also celebrate their creations and the many people who have contributed and influenced the comic book industry and genre through Marvel Comics and beyond. In fact, I recently celebrated with fellow fans, collectors, and cosplayers this week at the "Marvel 80 Years At SM" exhibit launch - welcoming a collection and showcase of the legacy and impact the brand has brought on for eight decades!

Castlevania Season 2: Bloody Tears were literally shed for this Netflix masterpiece

It's been almost two weeks since Netflix and producer Adi Shankar unleashed the second season of their animated series adaptation of "Castlevania" - the beloved action adventure series that sees players take on the role of Vampire Hunters traversing through Dracula's namesake castle and facing the Lord of Darkness himself. This show is nothing short of PERFECTION - premiering on July 2017 on the streaming service with four episodes - before eventually getting an expanded eight episode run this year with the sophomore season.

Castlevania: Season 2 | Official Trailer

Developed originally as a film beginning as early as 2007, Castlevania lingered on in developmental hell until 2015 - when it was resurrected and eventually began new life as a planned animated adult television series. Warren Ellis served as the writer of the series - adapting concepts and themes largely based from Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, but telling a wholly original story the fleshed out the adventures of Treveor Belmont, Sypha, Alucard, and of course Dracula and his army. The first season served as a slow introduction that built up the plot and narrative of Dracula's mission of vengeance after his wife Lisa is burned in the stake - which eventually sets up his inevitable confrontation with the Vampire Hunters and his estranged son - who honors his mother's wish to leave humanity unharmed by her husband's fury. Season 2 successfully expands the story and tuned up the band - introducing new characters and story arcs while maintaining the main plot - with Episode 7 serving as the "main course" that fans of the series have waited for. You just have to see it to believe it.

With Season 2 currently streaming and offering some good ol' Vampire Killer goodness to fans, Castlevania has proven itself to be one heck of a video game adaptation - possibly even THE BEST ONE made to date. Season 3 has been confirmed and is expected to come around within the next year or so. We'll just have to wait and see where the adventure to defeat the forces of evil takes us next. Catch this now on Netflix.

Goodbye 2017... Howdy 2018! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Another year goes bye bye, and here we are preparing to welcome a brand new one!

2017 certainly was a year of constant unpredictability and change. As with past years, I challenged myself to do new cosplays, and I've had PLENTY OF THEM. One of them - Logan - was my way of paying tribute to Hugh Jackman's portrayal of one of my favorite comic book characters in the big screen, and I was alongside Mislaine who did a WONDERFUL Laura/ X-23 right beside me. That movie is my pick for "2017 Film of the Year" as well, but I digress - this year has a LOT of EPIC films that did well in their own way.

As I pushed forward, I also had the opportunity to FINALLY cosplay Ryu from the Street Fighter series - honoring my fandom and the series' 30th Anniversary this year! I also got to have some AMAZING adventures with my Spider-Verse PH family - in no small part due to the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming this year and our favorite wallcrawler's introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

Then there was the big departure - leaving a team I worked with for seven years due to creative differences and the way things were running. It was arguably the best decision I have made, and I'm used to working on my own and being free to do my own thing. That still didn't stop me from dressing up like a Bat - and I FINALLY UPGRADED MY BATSUIT just in time for the Justice League Movie - joining other like minded friends and comrades who also enjoyed doing things out of passion and for the fun of it.

From ToyCon to APCC, there were exciting conventions to attend and memories to cultivate - including meeting Karen Fukuhara/ Katana from Suicide Squad and Ray Fisher/ Cyborg himself with my buddy CAZ. Then there was Geek Day 2017 too and being invited as a judge and speaker. So much to be grateful for along with fellow ambassadors Dinny Grayson, Xidge Evangelista, and FoxRots! Plus I also got to cosplay Kylo Ren. for Star Wars and take part on A Hero's Call as Green Arrow!

Bottomline - 2017 was a rollercoaster ride full of unpredictability and memorable moments. I have a lot to convey and share, but this collage will do the trick for the highlights! THANK YOU AND HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY! TO 2018 WE GO!

It's that time of the year again where we celebrate the good times and spend the holidays with loved ones all around! If you're wondering why the year went by so fast - we still have a few days left before we properly welcome 2018! So whether you enjoyed "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" this month, had mixed feelings about "Justice League", or absolutely cried manly tears over Hugh Jackman's final performance as Wolverine early this year in "Logan", there's plenty to talk about with friends and family who enjoy these things. There's also the new stuff like Avengers: Infinity War and Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition - so much to be excited about and we can absolutely treat ourselves to in the next few months.

Whether you collect stuff, watch movies, play games, or simply love reading about pop culture - here's wishing all of you a Merry Merry Christmas!!! Happy Holidays and hope you all got lovely presents! Let's all be festive this holiday season!
