Dark Knight III: The Master Race #9 Exclusive Look released at CBR

Finally arriving in shops this week and bringing an end to the latest series that serves as a continuation to Frank Miller's 1986 masterpiece that is "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns", DC Comics has released via Comic Book Resources an exclusive look at the ninth issue of "Dark Knight III: The Master Race" - the epic conclusion to the saga that sees Bruce Wayne come out of retirement as Batman once more and teaming up with familiar allies to take on a race of Kryptonians bent on taking over the planet with an iron fist.

Co-written by Brian Azzarello and Frank Miller and featuring art by Andy Kubert and Klaus Janson, this is the epic finale those who have started on the miniseries should not miss (as well as the army of variant covers including the one above by Jim Lee). Grab DK III #9 on June 7th in comic shops worldwide.

Batman Day: Save the date on September 17, 2016!

It's that time of the year again when a certain Caped Crusader gets a day to himself and his fans celebrating worldwide as well, as DC Comics has officially dated September 17, 2016 as "Batman Day" - the THIRD TIME the event has happened since its inception in 2014 as part of The Dark Knight's 75th Anniversary!

According to Comic Book.com, DC Comics has announced that there will be free comic book giveaways once again, as well as special artists like Frank Miller, Scott Snyder, and Tom King who have worked on the character promoting the legacy Bruce Wayne's alter ego has garnered for 77 years now. There's no better time to celebrate either, as Batman and the rest of the DC Universe have experience a "Rebirth" in comics, as well as Ben Affleck portraying an older and hardened Dark Knight in this year's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and will make a cameo in this August's Suicide Squad.

Throwback Thursday: 30 Years of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns...

About 30 years have passed since one of the most important and genuine works in comic book history, The Dark Knight Returns, burst into the picture and brought back something that was sorely lacking for a time... A Batman who was, for all intents and purposes, THE DARK KNIGHT. Putting together a story of an older Bruce Wayne who was well past his prime yet still burning with the desire to make a difference and stand against crime and injustice, Frank Miller set the bar in depicting a Batman that not only embraced his mission again, but also returned to his dark roots and didn't hesitate to instill fear and intimidation to those who preyed on the innocent.

Published as a four issue miniseries beginning in February 1986, The Dark Knight Returns forever changed the landscape of comics as we knew it then and how we know it now. It not only defined Batman for a generation and inspired his portrayal in several mediums and films like Tim Burton's Batman films and Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, but it also serves as the DIRECT INSPIRATION behind the upcoming DC Films' epic "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", where Ben Affleck plays a more hardenered, older, and experienced Batman than anything depicted in film.

In fact, the regular Batsuit and Batarmor were inspired by The Dark Knight Returns, and taking on Supes is directly lifted from the last chapter of that graphic novel saga, "The Dark Knight Falls".

With a new sequel series currently running in Dark Knight III: The Master Race, attention and focus is clearly directed at this classic and its influence on BvS. We'll just have to wait and see what happens on March 25th between the Last Son of Krypton and Dark Knight on film, but for now we honor 30 years of TDKR... The Dark Knight III: The Master Race announced by DC Comics

After months of teasing and build up that a new sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed comic book graphic novels of all time was coming this year, DC Comics has officially announced that legendary comic writer Frank Miller will be returning to helm a new chapter in the futuristic "Batman: The Dark Knight" saga by writing "The Dark Knight 3: The Master Race" - an 8-issue miniseries that he'll be co-writing alongside fellow comic scribe Brian Azarello.

The new book is the second sequel to Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns", which was released in 1986 and featured an aged Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement and donning the cape and cowl once more as Batman. The four-issue masterpiece returned the Caped Crusader to his dark roots, and helped bring the character to new ground that saw his popularity spike. The book would eventually have a sequel in "The Dark Knight Strikes Again", which was released in 2001.

No word yet on who will be the artist for "The Dark Knight 3: The Master Race", but the series is expected to be published twice a month and released on Fall 2015 in time for the 30th anniversary of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, which inspired the Batman films - including The Dark Knight Trilogy and the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Batman: New 52 "Detective Comics #27", Batman 75th Anniversary, & Batman: Eternal details revealed

Next year is going to be another big year for The Batman, and it's not just because of a new title or two either.

Come 2014, it would have been 75 years since the character created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger first appeared in the pages of Detective Comics #27 in May 1939, and to celebrate things spectacularly, DC Comics is collaborating with a superb team of artists and writers to bring out a 104-page megahit anniversary issue with Detective Comics Vol. 2 #27. Lead by current Batman writer Scott Snyder, the occasion and team-up of superb creative forces will have the likes of Brad Meltzer, Paul Dini, Neal Adams, and Dustin Nguyen, as well as seminal Batman writer Frank Miller, who'll be drawing a two-page spread for the issue.

Following the anniversary issue, The Flash comic series collaborators Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato will take over and begin a run on Detective Comics themselves.

Also coming on Spring 2014 is Batman: Eternal - A new weekly-year long comic book series also helmed by Snyder, and with the support of James Tynion IV, John Layman, Ray Fawkes, Tim Seeley, and Jason Fabok.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Deluxe Edition coming to Blu-Ray this October

It goes without saying that the two-part DC Universe Animated Original Movie that is "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" was a great adaptation, if not one of the best Batman animated movies to hit home video and digital media. Split into Part 1 and Part 2, both movies were mostly faithful to the original 1986 limited series turned graphic novel by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson, and the story helped redefine Batman for the modern age and brought the Caped Crusader back to his dark roots. I personally loved both films and added them to my collection... But this new announcement by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment  kinda makes me interested to revisit it, and entices newbies to look into the epic saga of an aged Batman coming out of retirement.

300: Rise Of An Empire: First teaser poster and trailer debut online

With Zack Snyder taking charge and successfully releasing his Superman reboot flick "Man Of Steel", his follow-up to his successful Spartan epic film based on Frank Miller's "300" had to be continuously shelved and reworked.

Fortunately, he was still in a producing and writing capacity to work on a Prequel/ Sequel to his action flick hit, and now we have the first poster and trailer to his follow-up that'll be directed by Noam Murro - 300: Rise Of An Empire.

With the release of the newest issue of EMPIRE magazine this month featuring Henry Cavill as Superman in the cover spotlighting Man of Steel, new information has also sprouted out for several other movies, including Hugh Jackman's next outing as the feral mutant and X-man Logan in The Wolverine! To that end, a new pic and details have surfaces for the movie, showcasing what we can expect from the ol' caknucklehead's next flick!

Bruce Willis set to return for Sin City: A Dame To Kill For

In an interview with MTV, director Robert Rodriguez has confirmed that legendary action movie star Bruce Willis will be returning for the sequel to the cult hit comic book drama film Sin City - Sin City: A Dame To Kill For.

In the 2005 original based on the graphic novel series of the same name by Frank Miller, Willis played  police detective John Hartigan, who was one of the primary characters featured throughout the first film, based on Miller's 1996 Sin City book "That Yellow Bastard". Hartigan also cameos in the follow up story "Just Another Saturday Night", which is one of the central tales "A Dame To Kill For" revolves under. It's possible Bruce will reprise his role as Hartigan for that one... Or something else entirely. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2: First clip now online

Set for release later this month, the next and final installment of Warner Bros. Animated and DC Universe Animated Original Movies' adaptation of Frank Miller's epic Batman work "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" is upon us, with this new clip for "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2" showcasing just what we can expect next from an aged Bruce Wayne's return as The Dark Knight!

Part 2 will see Batman taking on his eternal archnemesis, The Joker, as he returns to wreck havoc on Gotham once more. The Clown Prince of Crime isn't the only person Bruce has to contend with, as Batman's presence and influence on Gotham forces the US President to send a champion to stop The Dark Knight by any means necessary... Superman.

The Wolverine: New poster/ motion poster revealed

Revealed and shown in the film's official Facebook page, 20th Century Fox and Marvel have released this stunning new poster for Hugh Jackman's return as Logan in "The Wolverine". The new one sheet shows the feral mutant kneeling on a Japanese rooftop ledge that overlooks Tokyo, with a Samurai sword in one hand and his Adamantium claws unsheathed in the other.

Following the release of the first part animated adaptation of Frank Miller's seminal work that helped changed comic industry as we know it, Warner Bros. is getting ready to unleash the final installment of the legendary graphic novel story Batman: The Dark Knight Returns with Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part II. Via a post at Superherohype, new stills from the next DC Universe Animated Original Movies release, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Animated. The new animated feature based on Frank Miller's 1986 seminal graphic novel work of the same name is due for release on home video on September 25th, but it will also be getting an advanced premiere on two coasts in the United States, namely New York and Los Angeles. Filmmakers and cast members will be present on those dates, with panel discussions open to fans and viewers attending! SDCC '11: Batman: The Dark Knight Returns confirmed as a DC Animated film!

Fans of DC's ever growing animated film line up may get the surprise of their lives next year, as Warner Bros. and DC pretty much confirmed during the San Diego Comic Con that one of the most beloved Batman stories would be getting the toon treatment... As a two-parter even!

That's right, Frank Miller and Klaus Janson's The Dark Knight Returns is being adapted! The EPIC tale of an aged Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement and returning as Batman in a distant future is going to be made into DC's next animated film sometime in 2012. The Dark Knight Returns will most likely be released after the two animated movies slated for launch within the year, which are Justice League: Doom and Superman Vs. The Elite. Not much details were given on who will be voicing who, but good rumor and word is that legendary Batman: The Animated Series actors Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are being considered for Batman and Joker again, and if that's true, things will be so much more AWESOME going for this movie.

SDCC '11: Frank Miller's Holy Terror

If you know who Frank Miller is, then you're probably well aware that many of his works in the world of comics like Daredevil, Batman, 300, and Sin City, with the latter two eve made into blockbuster movies. His contributions to both film and literature are diverse and well known to fans of popculture, but arguably he is best known for bringing Batman back to his dark roots with his work on Batman: Year One and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. Those titles became legendary in status, and helped set the pace for future tales of the Caped Crusader to be told in a much more grittier and realistic fashion. Recent years have seen Miller return to writing sequels to his "Dark Knight universe" with The Dark Knight Strikes Again and All-Star Batman and Robin, but those books weren't as highly acclaimed as his previous two storylines (with the exception of coining the phrase "The Goddamn Batman" with his exceptional dialogue writing and script).

Originally pitched as a Batman story in 2006 but was eventually cancelled by DC, Miller is now working on a new graphic novel called "Holy Terror", in which a masked vigilante garbed and styled like the Dark Knight wages a one man war against the Al-Qaeda and Terrorism. A trailer has been released and can be seen below just to show just how graphic and serious this story is going to be, and it leans on the political aspect of the concept being used here.
