R.I.P Chadwick Boseman, aka The Black Panther
In what is certainly become a very very sad way to end the last weekend of August 2020, the world got the devastating news that actor Chadwick Boseman - best known for portraying King T'Challa/ Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - succumbed to his battle against colon cancer at the age of 43. It was sudden as it was depressing - Boseman battled the disease privately and no one knew he was suffering from it until the very end. :(
Here is the official statement from Chadwick Boseman's Facebook page:
It's definitely a sad time and a terrible year for all, and I even had to pay tribute in a video and post dedicated to this talented actor gone too soon. What the future of Black Panther be in the MCU remains to be seen... But now we mourn the loss of a king.
Rest well Chadwick. Thank you and "Wakanda Forever". :(

Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton return as their respective Batmans for “Flashpoint”
Batfans who have been looking for a sign or miracle that two former Batman actors would officially reprise their roles have gotten their prayers answered, as Variety reports that Ben Affleck AND Michael Keaton are returning as their respective versions of Batman for director Andy Muschietti’s “Flashpoint”! An adaptation of the 2011 alternate timeline Flash centered storyline that set up the DC Universe reboot initiative in “The New 52”, the film will see The Flash - once again played by Ezra Miller - making a time travel decision using the Speed Force which will seemingly impact the DC Films universe... And in some way traveling the DC Multiverse (as seen in the Arrowverse) where he’ll be encountering these two Batmen.
Affleck, who last played Batman/ Bruce Wayne in “Justice League”, will be returning the role for the first time since stepping away from starring and directing “The Batman” - which went on to Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves respectively. Michael Keaton has been heavily rumored to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/ Batman from “Batman” and “Batman Returns”, & now that’s officially confirmed too.
In the story by Variety, Muschietti said about Ben Affleck’s Batman and his relationship with Ezra Miller’s Flash:
“His Batman has a dichotomy that is very strong, which is his masculinity—because of the way he looks, and the imposing figure that he has, and his jawline —but he’s also very vulnerable,” Muschietti said in an interview. “He knows how to deliver from the inside out, that vulnerability. He just needs a story that allows him to bring that contrast, that balance.” Affleck got the script at the end of last week and agreed this week to join the project.
“He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before,” the director added. "It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.” “I’m glad to be collaborating with someone who has been on both sides of the camera, too,” Muschietti said. “He understands.”
With DC FanDome happening this weekend, we can expect more DC Films news and other exciting announcements to happen! Flashpoint is expected to be released on June 2022.

Mortal Kombat: The Movie was released 25 years ago
In 1995 - one of the most controversial and popular video game franchises got a live action film to its name - MORTAL KOMBAT. Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and based on the fighting game series of the same name created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, the movie dealt largely with the plot of the first game - where a group of martial artists battle in a tournament that will decide the fate of Earthrealm.
Despite the simple plot, slight deviations from its source material, and the campy comedic moments and dialogue it had, the movie became number at the box office at the time it was released - earning over $122 Million worldwide and becoming a cult classic and is arguably considered one of the better video game based films of all time.
With a cast led by Robin Shou as Liu Kang, Linden Ashby as Johnny Cage, Bridgette Wilson as Sonya Blade, Talisa Soto as Kitana, Christopher Lambert as Rayden, and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Shang Tsung, Mortal Kombat was a hit thanks to primarily to its martial arts performance, faithfulness to the main story, and that amazing techno song that serves as the theme song that’s catchy to listen to this day.
With a cult following that’s still active to this day, the Mortal Kombat film stands as a perfect example of how to adapt a video game concept and make it into a movie. Despite getting a horrible sequel (Mortal Kombat Annihilation *cough cough*), the film’s legacy was enough to influence the modern era of Mortal Kombat games by NetherRealm Studios - with Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa reprising his role as Shang Tsung for Mortal Kombat 11!
If you haven’t seen this movie, or the animatronic Goro, you absolutely need to. Go and watch it... FIGHT!

Entertainment Weekly has new details on Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales!
In a brand new article spotlighting the upcoming Marvel Games hitting in the next few months, Entertainment Weekly has new details from Insomniac Games on “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales” - their brand new expansion/ spin-off for their critically acclaimed “Spider-Man” game for the PS4! Set to be released this holiday season as a launch title for the Sony Playstation 5, the new game is set during winter time and one year after the events of “Marvel’s Spider-Man” - where Miles has to deal with the fact that his Harlem home may be collateral damage and caught in a war between an energy corporation and a criminal organization using advanced tech.
From the article alone, the game is compared to Naughty Dog’s Uncharted spin-off “Uncharted: Lost Legacy” - which is not a full blown sequel in itself and more of a companion story to “Uncharted 4”. The real Spider-Man sequel is being kept under (webbing) wraps, and we can only imagine when Sony and Insomniac Games will reveal more details on that!
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be a PS5 exclusive coming this holiday season!

ICYMI: Longtime Street Fighter series producer Yoshinori Ono announces departure from Capcom
After almost 30 years working with Capcom and undeniably helping steer one of its biggest IPs into a new renaissance, longtime Street Fighter series producer Yoshinori announced on the eve of his birthday (which is today) that he is departing from the company and resigning from his post as Capcom Brand Manager.
Here's the man's official Tweet.
Without Ono-San, we wouldn't have seen a fighting game resurgence come forth - as he was among the figureheads behind the release of Street Fighter IV over a decade ago. Since then, the Street Fighter brand has been reinvigorated under his watch, and has seen projects like Street Fighter x Tekken (a crossover with Bandai Namco Games Tekken series) and Street Fighter V come to pass. He definitely has left an impression with fans - especially with carrying his signature Blanka toy and shouting "SHO-RYU-KEN" to hype up the community during events.
No matter the mixed opinions there are during his tenure, we owe Ono-San a debt of gratitude for his contributions to the Fighting Game scene and the community. I even recorded my own tribute to honor his career... And wish him a Happy Birthday!
Thank you for your contributions, Ono-San! Good luck in your future projects!

Storm Collectibles previews Jin Kazama action figure from Tekken 7
Adding another fan favorite character to the line-up of their growing roster of Tekken 7 action figures, Storm Collectibles has released some preview photos of their upcoming Jin Kazama action figure on their Facebook page. The character - a mainstay of the franchise since Tekken 3, has been long awaited and sought after by fans and players who know the character's lineage in the long running Bandai Namco fighting game series .
As the son of Kazuya Mishima and Jun Kazama, Jin was originally trained by his grandfather Heihachi Mishima in the Mishima-Ryu style of Karate and sought to avenge his mother's death at the hand of Ogre in Tekken 3. After defeating Ogre he was betrayed by Heihachi, and the Devil Gene he inherited from his father Kazuya awoke inside of him. He renounced his Mishima heritage and adopted Traditional Karate as his fighting style, however events led to him becoming the leader of the Mishima Zaibatsu for a time after defeating his great grandfather Jinpachi Mishima in battle. That led to a war between him and his resurrected father Kazuya, which engulfed the world in chaos to achieve his true goal of defeating the demon Azazel. However Jin's sacrifice to defeat the demon only led to Heihachi reclaiming the Zaibatsu - and the Mishima saga seemingly came to a front during the events of Tekken 7.

DC brings back “Tales From the Dark Multiverse” w/ “Flashpoint” and “Batman: Hush”
Set to return a year after exploring parallel worlds in the “Dark Multiverse” in which well known storylines and characters branched out to darker paths, DC Comics (via a report by Newsarama) has announced that the popular “Tales From the Dark Multiverse” series will be returning this November - with two newly announced one shots that tackle two well known sagas - “Flashpoint” and “Batman: Hush” - With covers drawn by artist David Marquez.
In “Tales From the Dark Multiverse - Flashpoint” - imagine if The Flash never corrected the events of the alternate timeline, and the Reverse Flash was left to do his dirty work? What would happen to Thomas Wayne - the Batman of this reality - and the war between the Atlanteans and Amazons raging the world? That question will be answered by Bryan Hitch - who serves as writer and artist for the story.
In “Tales From the Dark Multiverse - Batman: Hush” - we are shown a world where Thomas Elliot ruined Bruce Wayne’s life as a child - leading to a series of events that brings out a dark and twisted Dark Knight called “Batman: The Silenced”. The story will be written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and drawn by artist Dexter Soy.
Tales From the Dark Multiverse returns this November, with Batman: Hush on sale November 3 and Flashpoint on November 17.

Street Fighter V Summer Update reveals Dan, Rose, Oro, and Rival Schools' Akira as new fighters for Season 5!
After promising some big announcements for their "Summer Update" live stream showcase for Street Fighter V, Capcom kept their word and revealed four of the five new characters that will be appearing in the fifth and final season pass of "Street Fighter V: Champion Edition". Three of these fighters are very familiar to fans of the series... While the fourth one is an unexpected yet very welcomed entry into the saga that finally brings a character from one of Capcom's fan favorite brawler into the Street Fighter canon!
The four characters revealed are as follows -Dan Hibiki, Rose, Oro, and surprise entrant Akira Kazama of Rival Schools fame! Dan will be the first to arrive and he actually had test footage shown in the stream presentation (which also featured AEW star Kenny Omega - who's a Street Fighter player himself!). Rose and Oro were no brainers as they appeared in the story mode of SFV... But Akira's inclusion is a welcomed one - as it marks the first time a Rival Schools character is crossing over to Street Fighter instead of the other way around as Sakura did!
UPDATE: Here's Dan gameplay test footage straight from Capcom and Playstation!
For more details on the updates, read it up at Event Hubs and Playstation Blog!
Check out the entire replay of the live stream above! Expect more Season 5 news for SFV down the line and the reveal of who the fifth character is!

ICYMI: Spider-Man comes to Marvel's Avengers as a Playstation Exclusive in Early 2021
With just a month to go before it releases for various gaming platforms worldwide, Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, and Square Enix's Avengers game has been putting up the hype to have fans play a unique video game adventure featuring Earth's Mightiest Heroes and fan favorite characters like Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Black Widow. However, the DLC content for that game has taken a MAJOR SWING in a direction that will leave some fans excited (or divided) - and that's having your friendly neighborhood webslinging hero Spider-Man as an EXCLUSIVE post-launch character for Playstation sometime in Early 2021.
As reported by IGN, the news was announced over at the Playstation Blog. After announcing the likes of Hawkeye as Downloaded Content heroes that are coming to the game after it launches this September, Spider-Man's reveal as a Playstation exclusive character tilts things in the console's favor while the Xbox Series X, PC, and Stadia versions of the game won't be getting the character at this point. It's no surprise either - given that Marvel's Spider-Man by Insomniac Games was also a Playstation exclusive for the PS4 and is one of the best superhero games ever made.
Marvel's Avengers will be hitting platforms starting September 4th.

Playstation 5: Arcade Sticks, Dual Shock 4 support for PS4 games, and other peripherals will work with the PS5
After announcing "The Future of Gaming" and revealing the Playstation 5 hardware in all of its white and black glory in their digital event last June, Sony and Playstation have followed up with fans and consumers wondering if past peripherals and devices can still be used for the upcoming new device. Thanks to a Playstation Blog post, we got that answer as well as a few specifics:
Which existing PS4 peripherals/accessories will work on PS5?
Specialty peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games.
The Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will work on PS5 (the headset companion app is not compatible with PS5).
The DualShock 4 wireless controller and PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers will work with supported PS4 games.
Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5.
Pretty much good news for Arcade Stick users who are into fighting games! As for Dual Shock 4 controllers, only supported PS4 games will allow those to be used. Find out more via the Playstation Blog post!

Happy Spider-Man Day! Todd McFarlane's Spider-Man released 30 years ago!
The month of August has arrived, and the first day is widely recognized by comic book fans as "Spider-Man Day" - when the world was introduced to Peter Parker and his amazing alter ego in the pages of "Amazing Fantasy #15" in 1962! Now each year, webheads and Spidey fans find ways to celebrate the occasion - but this particular time also marks the 30th Anniversary of one of the most dynamic Spider-Man titles released in Marvel Comics history - thanks to the art and contributions of one Todd McFarlane!
On August of 1990, "Spider-Man #1" was released to the world - with a young and enthusiastic artist by the name of Todd McFarlane getting the "keys to his own Spidey title" thanks to his game changing work in the pages of "The Amazing Spider-Man" where he created the dynamic poseable drawings of the character and the messy "spaghetti webs" that would be a signature contribution to the modernized interpretation of the wallcrawler. McFarlane's ASM run would also see the introduction of "Venom" - who would go on to be one of Spider-Man's most fearsome rivals and a fan-favorite Marvel character in his own right.
Happy Spider-Man Day and Happy 30 years to Todd McFarlane's Spider-Man!
