It was only a matter of time until he showed his maniacal and ugly face once more... But the latter statement could be wrong for the most part given his "new and improved" look for his much anticipated comeback.
Since last being seen at the end of the pivotal "
Death of the Family" storyline,
The Joker makes his long awaited return in the pages of this December's "
Batman #37", which is part of the "
Endgame" storyline being done by the long running
New 52 era creative force of
Scott Snyder and
Greg Capullo.
In the cover drawn by Capullo (seen above) that debuted in
HitFlix and was posted by
Comic Book.com, the
Clown Prince of Crime sheds off his rotting old face that he used as "a mask" and now sports a clean new face - one with a shorter hair length and with thinner red lips.
In fact, it's somewhat reminiscent of...
Yes. Joker as seen in
Frank Miller's seminal 1980's classic Batman story -
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns.
Nostalgic and creepy, and both ways aren't a good sign for The Dark Knight, who's taking quite the beating these days and is undergoing several changes thanks to the events of "
Batman: Eternal". In fact, "Endgame" sees the Caped Crusader fighting against his fellow
Justice League teammates who have been "Jokerized" for the most part.
Oh, and another variant cover channeling "
The Death of Jason Todd" as drawn by
Andy Kubert screams classic too.
Batman #37 will be released in comic book stores. December 10.
