Dead Rising 2 was released 10 years ago today

If you were into video games during the middle years of the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360's life cycles, then you've probably heard of Dead Rising 2 - Capcom's big sequel to the 2006 zombie action survival horror title Dead Rising. However instead of controlling the series first star and photojournalist adventurer Frank West and his scoop crusade in Willamette Parkview Mall, we are introduced to Chuck Greene and the world of Fortune City. Five years after the events of the first game, the entertainment and casino styled metropolis houses shows like "Terror Is Reality" where zombies are used as sport and Chuck works as a motocross entertainer to provide a cure for his infected daughter Katey. However a new zombie outbreak occurs that sees him framed for the incident, forcing Chuck to fight his way into solving the case before the military arrives to save the survivors of Fortune City.

Dead Rising 2: Launch Trailer

Fast forward to 2020, and Dead Rising 2 is still a very much playable game that has gotten its own rerelease for the PS4 and Xbox One in 2016 that coincided with the 10th Anniversary of the first game. While we have already seen two sequels after this in Dead Rising 3 and Dead Rising 4 (and even an alternate history version of Dead Rising 2 called "Dead Rising 2: Off The Record" starring Frank West), this game did revitalize the popularity of the series as another IP Capcom can be proud of. It definitely deserves some love and attention to replay if you love making combo weapons and doing a LOT of things in a city infested with zombies.

Seemingly coming out of nowhere or probably being announced unexpectedly, a brand new Resident Evil CG animated series (initially thought to be a movie) has been revealed and is coming to Netflix next year -- and it's called "Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness" (aka "Biohazard: Infinite Darkness" in Japan")

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness | Trailer | NETFLIX

The teaser features the return and reunion of Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, and will be the third time these Resident Evil 2 heroes reunite and will be the second CG animated RE film they'll headline after 2009's "Resident Evil: Degeneration".

While no story details have been revealed, it looks like both will be caught up in another mystery involving abandoned houses, biological conspiracies, mysterious individuals, and of course zombies.

Street Fighter V: Champion Edition adds Fighting EX Layer/ Street Fighter EX's Kairi as an Extra Battle Costume for Ryu

It's the late 90's and early 2000's all over again, as Capcom has made a surprising reunion with fellow Japanese video game developer and publisher Arika to add some content to their latest iteration of Street Fighter in "Street Fighter V: Champion Edition" - and that's in the form of a special Extra Battle costume for Ryu based on the Fighting EX Layer/ Street Figher EX character Kairi!

For those who don't remember the Street Fighter EX series, it was the first 2.5D spin-off series for Capcom that departed from their traditional 2D animated fighting games. The games were developed by Arika, and while they featured well known World Warrios like Ryu, Chun-Li, Ken, Guile, and Zangief, some new fighters like Hokuto, Allen, and the aforementioned Kairi made their debut in this series. Street Fighter EX would go on to have two sequels as well as updates in true Street Fighter fashion, but the characters developed by Arika would not return in a Capcom game after the release of Street Fighter EX3 for the Playstation 2. Instead, they would appear in their own Arika published game called "Fighting Layer", and recently in a new spiritual successor game called "Fighting EX Layer".

With many fighting game companies working together and allowing crossovers to happen in their titles, Kairi's "addition" as an unlockable Extra Battle Costume for Ryu is the first in years that the two companies are back working together to put an "active character" from the EX series in SFV CE (not counting the Shadaloo profiles database). If you're a fan of these characters and still play Street Fighter, go and log in to unlock this outfit for Ryu! It runs from now until early October!

Check out more info on this by visiting the official Street Fighter Facebook page!

Batman/ Catwoman finally arrives on December 2020 as part of DC Black Label imprint

After nearly a year of postponement and no word of when it would finally hit comic shops, Tom King and Clay Mann's "Batman/ Catwoman" series is finally seeing going to see release literally before the year ends -- with the first issue of the planned 12 issue run hitting comic book shops and retailers this December.

Following the on and off relationship between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle, the series is a continuation of Tom King's run on Batman -- which highlighted that Bat Cat romance and their ill-fated wedding which was sabotaged and manipulated behind the scenes by a group of villains led by Bane and Flashpoint Batman. The run is also set to introduce Phantasm, aka Andrea Beaumont, into the DC Universe proper for the first time. Beaumont was Bruce Wayne's love interest and fiancee in the Batman: The Animateds Series film "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm", so her inclusion and role in the DC Black Label series will be interesting and a compelling reason to collect the limited series run. For more information and details, check out Newsarama.

Batman/ Catwoman will run from December 2020 to November 2021, with a hiatus on June 2021 to make way for a "Batman/ Catwoman Special" to be released that same month.

Happy 21st Anniversary, Sega Dreamcast!

21 years ago today in North America, Sega launched their 128-bit console in the "Dreamcast" - a gaming system that was clearly ahead of its time trying to cut costs while maintaining a strong presentation and library of games. It was SEGA's final console in the video game console market, aiming to release and produce games instead as a third party developer instead of making hardware.

Sega Dreamcast Commercials (1999)

Despite facing big competition on the Sony Playstation 2, Microsoft Xbox, and Nintendo Gamecube, the Dreamcast was the machine to call home for a number of exclusives and games that became cult favorites. There's SEGA staples like Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 and Crazy Taxi to name a few, but it was also the system that gave us Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Soul Calibur, Phantasy Star Online, and Yu Suzuki's Shenmue. This really was a console that did big things and had big ideas, and the commercials from 1999 above showed that in full force.

Happy 21 years Sega Dreamcast in the US. Soon this November, you turn 22 in Japan!

"The Batman" halts production again due to coronavirus, Star Robert Pattinson reportedly tests positive for it

Looks like production on Matt Reeves' "The Batman" will have to take another break and suspend filming, as Variety reports that one of the crew working on the film tested positive for coronavirus... And it's apparently the lead and star himself Robert Pattinson.

The Batman - DC FanDome Trailer

Production for the new Batman film began early this year but had to grind to a halt after seven weeks of filming due to the pandemic. With three months left of material to shoot, the film is looking to wrap up all major filming by the end of the year. The first teaser trailer (above) premiered on the first DC FanDome event last August 22nd, and gave the world their first look at Pattinson's Bruce Wayne/ Batman in action. The footage used to make the teaser was only 25% of the movie done, and we're hoping to see the film complete and reach its release date by fall next year.

The Batman is set to be released on October 2021.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was released five years ago

Five years ago, one of the most anticipated games and what would ironically be the last collaboration between Konami and Hideo Kojima before the well documented controversy became public was released - as the long awaited "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" hit stores and shelves internationally on September 1st, 2015 for the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. As a follow up to the stand alone prologue chapter that was "Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes", The Phantom Pain was the true full MGSV experience and the first open world game in the series - utilizing the proprietary FOX Engine and putting players in control of Punished "Venom" Snake.

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN | E3 2015 Trailer [Long] (US)

Set primarily in 1984 and with the theme of vengeance at its core, Snake wakes up from a nine year coma and embarks in a journey of revenge and reestablishment following the loss of the Militaires Sans Frontieres. Reunited with Kazuhira Miller and joining forces with his old nemesis Ocelot, the man with the codename "Big Boss" leads a new mercenary army in "Diamond Dogs" - setting on missions in Afghanistan and the Angola--Zaire Border to track down those responsible for their misfortunes - the XOF, Cipher, and the mysterious Skull Face. Being an open world game, The Phantom Pain utilized familiar mechanics used in past MGS games but also allowed for near flawless movement in the environment - utilizing stealth and plotting your actions carefully to achieve goals and capturing enemies and bases in order to succeed in the mission.

Coincidentally, The Phantom Pain was released on September 2nd in Japan - the day Big Boss' mentor and mother figure was killed during the events of Operation: Snake Eater (MGS3)
