25 years ago, The Matrix was Released in Theaters

What is The Matrix?

That was the question most moviegoers asked when the film was released on March 31, 1999 in US theaters, and boy were they in for a surprise with this Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow release that was directed by The Wachowskis and starred Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, and Joe Pantoliano.

Helping revolutionize the action and sci-fi genre for Hollywood, The Matrix ultimately became a critical and commercial success - spawning three sequels and many spin-offs. It helped propel special effects use in cinema - especially with the use of “Bullet Time” as well as daring storytelling with the rise of the computer and digital age.

Happy Anniversary to The Matrix!

After the "Fall of X" and the events of The Krakoa Era end in a few months time, literally "From The Ashes" rises a new beginning for Marvel's Merry Mutants!

As revealed by Marvel during their Future of Marvel Comics panel held at SXSW convention, the House of Ideas will be relaunching new X-Men books under the "X-Men: From The Ashes" initiative - with "Uncanny X-Men", "X-Men", and "Exceptional X-Men" leading the charge as the first three new books coming out this Summer!

X-Men: From The Ashes | Official Trailer | Marvel Comics

With Gail Simone and David Marquez handling Uncanny X-Men, Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman teaming up for X-Men, and finally Eve L. Ewing and Carmen Carnero taking on the Exceptional X-Men, that's a pretty solid line-up of teams harkening back to the 90's era of X-Books... And that's just the tip of the iceberg as there's more titles coming that also revert back to the classic 90's style logos too.

The new era of X-Men begins this July with “X-Men” by MacKay and Stegman launching first!

The Batman 2 Delayed One Year, Will Be Released on October 2026

Those looking forward to the return of Matt Reeves’ world of Gotham City and its vigilante defender will have to wait a little bit longer, as Deadline has broken the news that Warner Bros. has delayed the tentatively titled “The Batman 2” - moving its released date from October 2025 to October 2026.

The delay is said to be due to the aftereffects of the dual strike that hit Hollywood last year which caused several projects to be affected and pushed back. Matt Reeves of course is working on the sequel to the hit 2022 reboot that saw Robert Pattinson play Bruce Wayne and don the cape and cowl - and where he faced Paul Dano’s Riddler and had romantic tension and chemistry with Zoe Kravitz’s Selina Kyle/ Catwoman.

The Batman of course is a DC Elseworlds project and will not share the same shared universe as James Gunn’s DC Universe of films. While fans will have to wait a bit longer for Pattinson’s return as the Caped Crusader, there’s a consolation in the form of Max’s upcoming “The Penguin” TV series later this year - which is a spin-off series and where Colin Farrell reprises his role as Oswald Cobblepot.
