Happy 30th Anniversary, Street Fighter!

It's been a long time since we celebrated and shouted "HADOUKEN!", "SHORYUKEN!", or "SONIC BOOM!" with feeling, but August 30th is a good time to do so this year as it marks the 30TH ANNIVERSARY of "Street Fighter"!

Released on this day three decades ago, the original Street Fighter was not as popular as its 1991 sequel - with only two playable characters in Ryu and Ken and fighting different CPU controlled opponents until they reach the final boss in Sagat. This game would set many of the conventions and standards that would follow in later sequels and spin-offs, and by the time Street Fighter II arrived - the rest was HISTORY.

by @Real_VcE

With so much happening and celebrations going on worldwide, Street Fighter has certainly evolved into a BIG FRANCHISE that while struggling with its own share of hits and misses - is undeniably THE most recognizable fighting game franchise of all time!

For a slight Throwback, here is the "I Am Street Fighter" documentary released five years ago to honor the 25th Anniversary of the series.

I Am Street Fighter

Once again... HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, STREET FIGHTER!

Matt Reeves tweets that "The Batman" IS a part of the DCEU

Looks like an earlier report of Matt Reeves' statements were taken in the wrong context, as the "War for the Planet of the Apes" director has officially put the word out via his own Twitter page that the solo Batman film titled "The Batman" is STILL part of the DC Extended Universe!

There's the official word from the director, who continued (and as noted by Superherohype):

“Just to be clear: Of COURSE Batman will be part of the D.C. Universe. Batman will be BATMAN… In my comments from a while back about not being part of the DCEU, I was talking about The Batman being a story specifically about Batman not about the others in the Universe. That it wouldn’t be filled with cameos servicing other stories — that it would be a BATMAN story."

No release date has been set for "The Batman", which is expected to have Ben Affleck reprise his role as the Caped Crusader.

Report: Matt Reeves says "The Batman" is not part of the DCEU

UPDATE: The report has been clarified by director Matt Reeves himself - "The Batman" is still part of the DCEU.

Looks like a new change may be hitting the course of the upcoming standalone Batman film that will be directed by "War for the Planet of the Apes" Matt Reeves, as the director of the tentatively titled "The Batman" has said during a podcast interview with The Business that the movie "will NOT be connected to the DC Extended Universe" as a report by Comic Book.com tells.

"When they approached me, what they said was, 'Look, it’s a standalone. This isn’t part of the Extended Universe,'

If that line by Reeves is to be believed, this contradicts all the work and reports that have led up to what the new standalone Batman movie will be. Ben Affleck is still attached to star as the Caped Crusader in this solo film after his appearance later this year on "Justice League", so how it comes together now is anybody's guess. If the news on the new Joker Origin Story movie that will be helmed by Todd Phillips and produced by Martin Scorsese and is not part of the DCEU is any indication, it wouldn't be farfetched to imagine Warner Bros. may be taking a similar direction for "The Batman" and bringing it to another banner of DC Films.

The Batman has no release date yet.

DC Metal: "Bats Out Of Hell" and "Hawkman Found" announced

DC Metal has begun, and with it a slew of reveals, more questions, and the kind of event set up that leaves a lot of things that Batman, the Justice League, and the rest of the DC Universe have to prepare to deal with as a "Dark Multiverse" prepares to be discovered and evil versions of the Dark Knight come forth to unleash their unholy wrath. The former will see the Justice League's related titles and members dealing with the Evil Batmen, while "Hawkman Found" will be a series that finally brings back Carter Hall, aka Hawkman, to the DC Rebirth saga and answer just what the hell is going on with him, the mystery involving his role and "Dark Nights Metal", and so forth.

Happy 45th Birthday Ben Affleck, aka Batman!

Today marks a special occasion for Hollywood and Batman fans, as August 15th marks the 45th birthday of Academy Award winning director and actor Ben Affleck - who plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne and Batman in the DC Extended Universe since his debut on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice last year.

Announced to play the new version of the Caped Crusader on the DCEU nearly four years ago this month, Affleck's casting was met with criticism and backlash from just about everyone in the comic and movie world - until he debuted in BvS and quickly proved to be one of the main highlights of that film. Accepted and pretty much playing one of the best interpretations of the DC Comics character in the big screen, Affleck would reprise his role as Bruce Wayne and Bats in a cameo role in 2016's Suicide Squad. His next full appearance will be alongside the rest of the Metahuman team he and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman are gathering together in "Justice League".

To commemorate his performance, here's a featurette on Batman/ Bruce Wayne from the BvS special features included on the Blu-Ray and Digital releases.
