Resident Evil 2 was released 22 years ago for the Sony Playstation

22 years ago... Survival Horror got a double dose of action and terror by bringing the zombie apocalypse and Umbrella's biological monstrosities to Raccoon City - as Capcom unleashed one of the greatest games for the Sony Playstation on this day in 1998 with "Resident Evil 2".

Released in North America first on January 21, 1998 - the game that is also known as "Biohazard 2" was a direct continuation of the 1996 third person action adventure title that coined the genre "Survival Horror", and introduced us to two new protagonists in Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Set two months after the events of the first Resident Evil - our new heroes enter the fiction midwestern town of Raccoon City - lost to an outbreak and forcing them to find a way to escape and survive by any means necessary.

Resident Evil 2 Demo Trailer

Resident Evil 2 was a critical success for Capcom upon its release, and went on to sell nearly 6 million Playstation units - becoming one of the best-selling games of all time. Last year around this time, a remake of the game was released for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC - Telling essentially the same kind of story but sporting new graphics and paths for fans new and old to explore.

This title's importance in video game history cannot be overstated, and it is definitely a classic in many fans eyes, including this long time fan and survival horror player here. HAPPY 22 YEARS, RESIDENT EVIL 2!

Batman Beyond ala Batman: Arkham Knight takes flight in Hot Toys' 1/6th scale preview

Hot Toys continues to chug out some concept figures from games and movies alike - and one of them is the costume that one Terry McGinnis will eventually wear as Batman Beyond, albeit a version that Bruce Wayne develops and wears as one of the alternate costumes featured in the 2015 game "Batman: Arkham Knight".

Looking a lot more tactical and heavy as compared to the look everyone knows from the animated series and comics, this Batman Beyond Hot Toys figure will fit well with those who collect The Dark Knight and his world - as well as Hot Toys figures and concept stuff they like to display in their collection.

“Resident Evil 4” was released this week 15 years ago

It’s the game that changed a generation and redefined one of Capcom’s most popular video game franchises for better or for worse, but on this weekend 15 years ago - Resident Evil 4, or Biohazard 4 as it is known in its native Japan, was released first on the Nintendo GameCube - bringing back Resident Evil 2 protagonist Leon S. Kennedy as a special ops government agent and deployed on a mission to save the US President’s daughter Ashley Graham from a group of cultists known as the “Los Illuminados”.

Resident Evil 4 Demo Gameplay (Nintendo GameCube)

Initially made as an exclusive to the system, Capcom eventually made RE4 for other systems - first porting it to the PlayStation 2 the following year and then having subsequent re-releases on other platforms and next generations consoles thereafter. The game became one of the best-selling video games of its generation, and changed the RE franchise from “Survival Horror” to “Survival Action” - focusing more on the “Run and Gun” part and making Leon shoot “over the shoulder” and putting an emphasis on “Quick Time Events” during gameplay and cutscenes.

So let’s raise a toast this game - one of the best and definitely a game Capcom will always find a way to release again - even today on the Nintendo Switch! It’s third person gameplay influenced several shooters, and even the Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remakes owe a lot to the path started by this game! Happy Anniversary, Resident Evil 4!

Reality Punching returns: Superboy-Prime revealed for “Shazam #13”

Even if the events of DC Rebirth and the recently concluded “Doomsday Clock” have seemingly given finality and explanation that Doctor Manhattan of the Watchmen universe was responsible for all the changes going on to the DC Universe - it looks like another twist and wrench has been thrown in to make matters even more interesting and complicated at the same time.

Via colorist Michael Atiyah’s Twitter - the cover to DC’s upcoming “Shazam #13” reveals Billy Batcon and his friends defeated at the hands of a very familiar foe - SUPERBOY-PRIME. Yes, the same insane alternate reality young Superman who punched through the wall of their “paradise” during the events of “Infinite Crisis” that sent ripples through time and made changes to DC continuity which included the resurrection of Jason Todd, as well as the same alternate version of Clark Kent that joined the Sinestro Corps and even killed heroes like Superman from Earth-2.

What he will do and how he factors into the new future of the DCU is anyone’s guess, but it won’t be good that’s for sure as the architect of his downfall, Geoff Johns, is writing Shazam and will probably have a very good explanation for this.

Thanks goes to Bleeding Cool for putting this up. We’ll just have to wait for “Shazam #13” sometime very soon to see what happens next - Whether it be another big event or crisis that occurs because of his actions and madness.
