Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man was Released 20 Years Ago Today

One of the most important movies in the history of superhero films and cinema was released exactly two decades ago today! The very first Spider-Man film directed by Sam Raimi opened in theaters on May 3, 2002 - introducing the world to Tobey Maguire’s version of the wallcrawler as well as Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson and Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn/ Green Goblin.

Nothing short of AMAZING and SPECTACULAR, Spider-Man would go on to become a box office success - spawning two sequels also directed by Raimi and two rebooted franchises that would continue the legacy of the webslinger in the big screen. Eventually those versions would meet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with “Spider-Man: No Way Home” - bringing back Maguire and seeing Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland team up with him for a multiversal adventure like no other! Sam Raimi would also get to return to Marvel movies with this year’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”!

Happy 20th, Spider-Man!
