Final Fantasy VII Celebrates the 25th Anniversary of its Western Release

In September 7, 1997, the company then known as Square released the long awaited English translated version of “Final Fantasy VII” in North America - bringing one of the most anticipated Japanese role-playing games to western audiences. Packed in three discs and showcasing the first 3D polygon graphic made Final Fantasy installment for the Sony PlayStation, the game became a critical and financial success - and its legacy is still felt 25 years later as this particular FF became its own universe and multimedia franchise!

The popularity and importance of FFVII cannot be understated - it’s a global phenomenon, and the characters in the story have become household names with Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockhart, Aerith Gainsborough, Sephiroth, and the other iconic figures as memorable as any other video game character out there. With the second chapter of the remake saga coming in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and a remaster of the prequel with Zack Fair in Crisis Core Reunion due at the end of the year, FFVII fans are going to be enjoying more of the saga and its legacy for many years to come.

Happy 25th, Final Fantasy VII!
