Happy 35th Anniversary, Street Fighter!

35 years ago this day in Japanese arcades, the original Street Fighter was released and introduced the world to the franchise that would be synonymous with Capcom and the world of fighting games. It wouldn’t be until the release of its 1991 sequel Street Fighter II where the series’ popularity would boom and many characters like Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Guile, Sagat, and M. Bison would become household names, but it got its start with that 1987 title and things would only grow bigger from there.

Following Street Fighter II’s success, more sequels, spin-offs, and other forms of media and merchandise would follow. Street Fighter would take the world by storm and would feature largely in the fighting game community, leading to the birth of events and tournaments where fans and fighters from around the world could gather and participate in. After a brief hiatus in the early 2000’s that saw the franchise all but gone, Street Fighter IV would be released and see a resurgence in interest for fighting games. Street Fighter V would eventually follow, and now that game is ready to give way to its successor in Street Fighter 6 - which is set for release some time next year.

Three and a half decades of FIGHT! Happy anniversary, Street Fighter!

Street Fighter V: First screenshots of Guile revealed!

As April marches forward and past its mid-mark, Capcom has quite the patriotic surprise that comes just in time as fans look forward to the release of Marvel's Captain America: Civil War - The Army Man and Sonic Hurricane himself has returned with a mighty SONIC BOOM, as Col. William Guile stands revealed as the official second DLC character for Street Fighter V!

While ol' broom top hasn't changed much, he does have a new uniform that sees him sport shades, a tie, and more formal army wear... But the ARMS and Flag tattoos remain as does his movelist of "Sonic Boom" and the "Flash Kick"! Plus it seems Capcom's going to revisit the Family Man's iconic stage from Street Fighter II, so this is going to play on those SF nostalgia feels so well! One has to wonder how Guile's going to react to the returning Charlie Nash in story mode... We'll just have to wait and see.

Also, special Happy Birthday shoutout to M.Bison (Vega in Japan), who celebrated his fictional birthday on April 17!

Check out more screenshots of Guile at the Street Fighter V Facebook page... And listen to his theme that goes with everything too.

Street Fighter V: Capcom releases Nash gameplay trailer

Teased, discussed, and alluded to many times since the sequel was announced, Capcom has finally released a brand new gameplay trailer that FULLY REVEALS the return of one of Street Fighter Alpha/ Street Fighter Zero's most iconic characters - Charlie Nash, aka Guile's mentor and best friend!

Yes... The originator of the Sonic Boom and Flash Kick style returns from the grave... But VERY DIFFERENT and obviously under the control of something evil. We'll never know until the game is properly released and fleshed out.

Here's the gameplay trailer, straight from Capcom-Unity.

And speaking of evil... That tease of course at the end of the trailer for the next character to be revealed.

Street Fighter V, a PS4 and PC Exclusive, has no specific release date set yet.
