Captivate 2011: Crossover Battles and New Sequels heat things up!

Taking place last week at Miami, Capcom just recently lifted their embargo on news pertaining to their major showcase event, Captivate 2011, which revealed and teased some of the new games and updates the company had to offer this year and the next. Capcom-Unity and gaming news sites like Kotaku had the scoops on the program, and a lot of noteworthy titles came up in the list.

One of the most prominent and exciting ones arguably has to be the much awaited Street Fighter X Tekken, which pits Capcom's prized world warriors against Bandai Namco's Tekken roster! Shown at Captivate were a new "cinematic trailer" and "gameplay trailer" for fans salivating over just what would the game be like now after months of development and since the last trailer premiered at last year's San Diego Comic-Con. Well, the wait is finally over, so here's a glimpse of said cinematic trailer, which shows highlights some of the game's epic rivalries and story!

Street Fighter X Tekken Cinematic Trailer

Next up, we have the gameplay trailer, and it looks downright gorgeous!

Street Fighter X Tekken Gameplay Trailer

This game looks intense alright... Now the ball is on Bandai Namco's hands to show off their version of the epic crossover - Tekken X Street Fighter! However, the Capcom news doesn't only stop with SF X Tekken, as Capcom also revealed that Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition will officially be making it's way to consoles come June (though the news was leaked online last week despite the embargo restrictions). The company also showed off new trailers for their new upcoming games like Asura's Wrath, and gave off new details on their two new Resident Evil/ Bio Hazard titles hitting later this year - Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City for consoles and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries for the Nintendo 3DS.

The big surprise though has to be the announcement of a pseudo new sequel/ update to Dead Rising 2... which features the return of the first Dead Rising's protagonist, Frank West! That's right, Frank's coming back to the spotlight in a new game called "Dead Rising 2: Off The Record", which still takes place in DR2's fictional casino town of Fortune City, but instead of Chuck Greene as the main character, it'll be Frank at the head. I absolutely love the series to bits, and after the lukewarm ending I got finishing DR2 last year, I really look forward to this one! Check out the trailer below.

Dead Rising 2: Off The Record Captivate Trailer

I gotta say, this year's Captivate didn't have that much exciting NEW news as I would have wanted, but the trailers do tease and the titles on the menu do please. I'll be looking forward to all of them in the coming months ahead. For more on the highlights, check Kotaku and Capcom Unity!
