The Nintendo 3DS gets Resident Evil: Mercenaries!
Here's another personal reason to possibly invest in a Nintendo 3DS - More juicy games from Capcom!
Next to the major announcement that a new Megaman Legends game would be coming for the system, it seems that another Resident Evil/ Bio Hazard title will also be making its way besides the already announced "Resident Evil: Revelations". Dubbed "Resident Evil: Mercenaries", it's just what you expect - a spin-off title based on the mini-games and bonus gamesfeatured in Resident Evil 4 and 5. The graphics are understandably fair and look like a scaled down version of RE5, but it's still too early to judge, and it does look mighty impressive for a portable system like the 3DS to display. More images and notes can be found at the blog post over at Kotaku.

Blu-Ray Review: Iron Man 2
Iron Man 2 was a great sequel. It had tons of action, special effects, and superb acting to keep the fans entertained and get their money's worth. Despite some pacing issues and some nitpicks, the sequel performed well enough to keep the numbers rolling in Marvel's favor, outperforming expectations and even surpassing the box office record of its predecessor "Iron Man". Now that four months have passed since it took theaters by storm, Tony Stark and his armored alter ego are ready to suit up and ride home, as Iron Man 2 makes its long awaited release for home video via Blu-Ray and DVD!

Resident Evil: Afterlife Actors Take On RE 1 Acting!
The first Resident Evil/ Bio Hazard was a classic for its time, but it was also notorious for delivering one of the worst and most hilarious B Movie voice acting in video game history. I can attest to the game's silliness, and the lines were so memorable that I'd actually find myself mumbling them on random situations! Take for instance these scenes from Jill's scenario of the original game:
Ah yes. A true classic at work. Now we come to the main dish.

Tokyo Game Show 2010: Plenty of new games coming up!
This year's Tokyo Game Show has finally gone underway, and it's bringing out all the heavy gun announcements that game lovers are dying for! First up, there's a slew of new games coming from none other than the company that created the Street Fighter and Megaman series - Capcom! They've announced new titles like Asura's Wrath (a God Of War style game), a new Dead Rising game featuring the return of the original game's protagonist, Frank West, and a new Devil May Cry game, simply titled DmC! Developed by Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword), the new installment features Dante once again, showing him with a younger look complete with black hair. Kotaku has the scoop, and a trailer of a game via their link here, or see it here right below.
Dante looks way different... I don't know if it's a good thing or bad thing. We'll just have to wait for more updates and see.
More games and plenty of other surprises still await as the TGS rolls forward!

Yakuza/ Ryu Ga Gotoku has Zombies?!
Once I popped online to check on the gaming news, I see this eye-opening post over at Kotaku:
It appears that newest game in Sega's action crime Ryu Ga Gotoku/ Yakuza series is adding zombies to the mix... yes, ZOMBIES! This must be why the latest entry is called "Yakuza: Of The End", since it has hordes of the undead roaming around the streets of a destroyed Kamurocho. As Kotaku states, this pic was confirmed and shown in the latest issue of Famitsu, and several other scans show the Japanese Self Defense Force trying to contain the situation as best they can. The plot sounds a lot like Resident Evil 2 and High School Of The Dead to me. But hey, even if it's far-fetched, if you have Kazuma Kiryu beating up zombies senseless and dating/ saving hot hostess girls at the same time, I'm in!
No release date has been given for the new Yakuza game yet in Japan. Expect more details to arise (pun intended) soon.

Resident Evil goes from Degeneration to Damnation!
Now that Paul W.S. Anderson's latest Resident Evil flick, RE: Afterlife is making the rounds in theaters, news and interest on Capcom's survival horror franchise has spiked up, and yours truly couldn't be any happier with the results. In addition to the fact that there definitely will be a sequel to Afterlife, it looks like Sony and Capcom have decided to make a sequel to their 2008 CG Animated movie, Resident Evil: Degeneration!
For those who don't know about that movie, it was set in the same universe as the games, and featured Resident Evil 2's main stars Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield reuniting once more to fend off zombie attacks and bio hazard threats. While the film may have had mixed reviews, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and at least it retained the spirit and continuity of the games, which was big plus factor for me as an RE fan. Now, the people behind that flick are making the next CG installment, RE: Damnation. According to the post featured in Kotaku, the new movie will star Leon once again, and we can only guess who else will star and what the plot will be. Since RE: Degeneration took place between Resident Evil 4 and 5, maybe Damnation will take place after those events, with Leon taking on another mission backed by U.S Government... and running into Ada Wong once more. We can only dream for now... but I'm happy that a new flick is coming. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.

One amazing cover to Batman: The Dark Knight #2!
I have high hopes and expectations for the Bat-universe once Bruce Wayne comes back into the saddle and resumes his activities as The Dark Knight, but as noted in recent posts and comic book related websites, he won't be alone in his crusade anymore. Dick Grayson, his first ward and the original Robin, will still continue on as Batman, and while he watches over Gotham and his mentor's young son Damian, Mr. Wayne will be tackling his mission on a global scale, conducting his adventures within the pages of Batman Inc. and Batman: The Dark Knight. The latter title will be penned and illustrated by comic book talent David Finch, who's no stranger to drawing excellent superhero visuals thanks to his early works and exposure via Marvel's Avengers and Moon Knight titles. Now that he's exclusive to DC, Finch will be taking the challenge of writing and penciling a new Batman title, and for those wondering how it's gonna look, DC has released the cover to issue #2 of Batman: The Dark Knight via The Source. Get a load of great art here!
Well, looks like the Penguin's gonna strike at Bruce when he returns, in a new costume and all! This already looks interesting from the get-go, and I hope Finch's writing capabilities draw me into this new title, as it looks promising from the visuals alone!

Movie Review: Resident Evil: Afterlife
As a longtime follower of the Bio Hazard/ Resident Evil series, I wasn't the biggest fan of Paul W.S Anderson's movie adaptations. Right from the start of the first movie, the plot strayed away greatly from what was established by the games, instead giving moviegoer folks a shoddy "Hollywood treatment" of the game that was more survival action than survival horror. Yes, I didn't think of it as a true Resident Evil movie, and I'm still waiting for the day Capcom will actually commission a true adaptation to made.
Resident Evil: Afterlife Trailer
However, I must point out that despite all its inconsistencies and discrepancies, the universe Paul W.S Anderson has crafted for his vision of Resident Evil has remained remarkably consistent with each and every sequel chugged out in the market. His wife, actress Milla Jovovich, has remained the central figure throughout the movies, and although it's an original character put together for the movie, she does interact with the primary figures headlining the games, such as the Redfield siblings, Jill Valentine, and even main antagonist Albert Wesker. Their characterizations in the film universe are barely similar to their video game counterparts though, and I won't go into details on how they differ. All that I can say is that they're pretty unique for the movies, so they can be considered "alternate universe" counterparts to the ones fans know and love in the games, and that even includes the zombies and monstrosities created by the Umbrella Corporation, who continue to be pests and targets for a bullet regardless.

Months after I joined iamanavenger.com, a contest where dozens of Marvel's fans could join a contest and submit mugshot photos of themselves, I found myself wondering if I'd be one of the true believers out there who'd be lucky enough to be get their pictures shown in a collage of photos collecting Avengers fans from around the world.
Well, the wait is finally over. After spotting several friends in past issues, my mug has appeared in the last few pages of New Avengers #4!

Video Game Review: Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
Sensational. Spectacular. AMAZING.
These words are famously paired and associated with Marvel Comics' flagship character and web-slinging superhero, Spider-Man. As it goes, everyone's friendly neighborhood wallcrawler has dedicated his life to using his powers responsibly by defending his fellow man from just about every little freak and evildoer out to terrorize society. His feats of strength, agility, and heroism have inspired and awed readers over the years, and more than once, the character has sprang over to several other mediums like movies and games where fans can see first hand how savvy a guy with radioactive spider powers can be when he goes toe to toe with the bad guys. Yes, Spider-Man is a hero and popculture icon throughout the entire world, and he continues to see publication and exposure to this very day.

All that being said, it should come as no surprise that ol' webhead has a new game out in the market today... and it's not an ordinary one at that. Oh no, this is a Spider-Man game that not only stars the main guy we all know and love, but his alternate reality counterparts as well! We're talking about 3 other Spider-Men from different worlds and universes, and some of these guys have their own cult following that's as large as the original's! They're not some mere palette swap colored freaks thrown in for variation. The three have their own distinct personalities and wit to share, and in fact one of them isn't even another Peter Parker! More explanations to that come as we progress with this review, but for now, here's a taste of the good stuff with the launch trailer to SPIDER-MAN: SHATTERED DIMENSIONS.
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions Launch Trailer
Looking good, noh? I've been enjoying this game too much, and as of this writing, I'm still playing and unlocking stuff as I go with things! Yes, it's been quite a wait, but finally, Activision's newest and latest attempt at making the definite Spider-Man game has come to pass... and it's pretty damn good to boot! I kid you not, true believers, this is the real deal here, and it's an experience no diehard Spider-Man fan should miss!

Captain America Update: First Photos Of Cap Costume in action!
Superherohype and The Daily Mail have just released photos online showing the full look of the costume Chris Evans will wear in next year's superhero flick - Captain America: The First Avenger. The man wearing the costume in this scene is NOT Mr. Evans however, but a stunt double who is participating in a scene where Cap, riding a motorbike, is being chased by agents of H.Y.D.R.A.
The H.Y.D.R.A agents also look impressive, along with their futuristic bikes. Not bad, but I'm still waiting to see Evans himself in the suit, as well as Hugo Weaving decked out in full Red Skull attire! For more pics, check out Superherohype or The Daily Mail!

Celebrating 25 Years Of Mario!
It's been a while since I posted anything out of nostalgia, but with this post I just saw, now's the perfect time to talk about something I genuinely like and miss in relation to gaming:

I got wind of this beautiful new logo announcement for SMB via Kotaku. It seems the folks at Nintendo have taken notice that this year marks the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. - a game that would forever make history as one of the most fun and genuine titles that people of all ages can play and relate to.
As Mario, a plumber who found himself in the strange and mysterious world of the Mushroom Kingdom, players had to guide him (or his brother Luigi) through a series of worlds in order to rescue a young maiden named Princess Peach from the evil clutches of Bowser, king of the Koopas. The game, directed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, would come to be synonymous with the brand Nintendo, and decades after the original game launched, Super Mario Bros. has evolved into a franchise that has spawned numerous sequels, spin-offs, and yes, even clones that were inspired by the game's simple yet addicting gameplay.
Even with the advent of next generation gaming and Mario's current home in Nintendo's latest gaming platforms (the Wii and DS), life can be funny sometimes, as it has a way of taking you back to the past when you least expect it.
Late last month, I picked up an old and used Nintendo Entertainment System over at a second hand shop. Unlike its colorful and shorter Japanese counterpart called the Famicom (which I owned, this baby was a white/ grey box that used longer and extended catridges (an early attempt at "regionizing" games based on the countrythe platform was released on). This system was home to many of the games I've cherished throughout my childhood, and yes, one of them was Super Mario Bros. Unfortunately, the system I picked up didn't come bundled with the game. Instead, it was packed along with this:
Thank the gods, I was blessed with the third and arguably most popular installment of the NES games - Super Mario Bros. 3! This game took a cue from Miyamoto's other games (namely Zelda), and added RPG styled elements that gave a new spin to the original Mario formula, which was still intact. Now, instead of just growing up in size courtesy of a mushroom, Mario could also fly with the help of a Raccoon suit upgrade he acquires with the help of a leaf! Several other unique upgrades and abilities were available as you progressed through this game, and it made SMB3 one of the unique NES titles to play and own. Still, that game wouldn't have made a buzz had it not been for the formula established by its predecessors. In my own way, getting a NES again was my way of paying tribute to the years I enjoyed playing games like Mario alongside cousins and friends, and those were experiences that shaped me into the gamer I am today. Coincidentally, this coming October marks the 25th anniversary of the US release of the NES. Talk about your nostalgia gaming trip come full circle!
Happy 25Th anniversary Super Mario Bros! Feel the power with Nintendo, peeps!
