Lupin III is getting the Live Action Film treatment in 2014
Those who grew up with the exploits of a certain Arsene Lupin III, best be excited, for Japan is going to give this iconic Manga/ Anime series the live action film treatment come 2014!
Much like recent hits Rurouni Kenshin and Gatchaman, the Lupin III/ Rupan Sansei franchise has been officially tapped and announced for the big screen, coming sometime in Summer 2014. Created by Monkey Punch in August 1967, the character is the grandson of Arsene Lupin, the gentleman master thief and main character of Maurice Leblanc's novels, who steals valuable items and travels around the world with his trusted allies, Marksman Daisuke Jigen and Samurai Goemon Ishikawa XIII. Also working together with the gang is Lupin's love interest Fujiko Mine, who the thief lusts after, but is usually manipulated by the female fetale for her own gains. Inspector Koichi Zenigata of the ICPO has made it his personal mission to apprehend Lupin and his crew, going through thick and thin to chase the thief wherever he goes around the globe.
Playing the iconic role of the master thief will be Shun Oguri, who also played the role of Shinichi Kudo in the Detective Conan TV Special in 2006 (ironically, the characters he played, Conan and Lupin III, met in a animated TV special as well). Tetsuji Tamayama (GaoSilver of GaoRanger fame) plays Daisuke Jigen, Go Ayano (who starred in the live action Rurouni Kenshin and Gatchaman movies incidentally) takes on the role of Goemon, and Meisa Kuroki (who played Yuki Mori in the live action adaptation of Space Battleship Yamato) is Fujiko Mine. Meanwhile, Thor's own Hogun the Grim and 47 Ronin star Tadanobu Asano will play Inspector Zenigata. That's a pretty good cast altogether, and Versus and Azumi director Ryuhei Kitamura is set to helm the film. For more information, visit the source post at Kotaku and IT Media.
Be sure to look out for Lupin III as he hits the big screen in Japanese theaters on Summer 2014.
