Those wondering what Marvel was teasing earlier this week when they posted an Avengers logo poster with an "X shaped" crosshair dead on its sights have finally gotten their answer.
Yes, that's who you think it is. As speculated a few months ago, Cable is making a comeback from the dead, and he's going to be taking on... The Avengers?!
Via their live blog featured at Marvel.com and a post at Bleeding Cool, the House of Ideas has formally announced "Avengers: X-Sanction" - a four part miniseries by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness that will show just how the X-Man from the future managed to survive his death and sacrifice at the end of epic X-Men storyline, X-Men: Second Coming. The project was initially called "Cable: Reborn", but now that Marvel has incorporated Earth's Mightiest Heroes into the equation, there's big mystery as to why Nathan Christopher Summers is coming back in an Avengers themed storyline and not alongside his fellow mutants. Of course, this doesn't mean that none of the X-Men will be unaware here. There's Cyclops, his father, and Hope, Cable's adoptive daughter, will surely be delighted to know her dad's alive and well... But how did he survive? Also, with the fallout of X-Men: Schism about to take effect, how will Cable react to it and which side will he choose? All these questions piling up, and we can only speculate from this point. Avengers: X-Sanction is slated to begin this December!
