Overview: The Walking Dead TV Series

AMC's The Walking Dead is a success story in itself, and I'm glad to bear witness to it. If there's anything to be said about the past five weeks since the show's premiere, it's been one heck of a zombie apocalypse ride the viewers around the world have tuned and engrossed themselves into.

The Walking Dead Trailer

Based on the comic book series of the same name created by Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead tells the story of a former small town sheriff's deputy named Rick Grimes, who gets shot in the line of duty and wakes up from a coma, only to be thrust into a world populated by the living dead. As he searches and eventually reunites with his family, Rick also comes across several other survivors, who also try to cope with the devastating changes wrought upon them by the zombie apocalypse. Soon, it becomes apparent that their enemy isn't just the dead, but also what remains of humanity as well.

R.I.P Leslie Nielsen.:(

I was very shocked to learn of this news via a friend and Yahoo news, and after just seeing the Naked Gun movies show this month in HBO, I can't help but feel a sense of irony and overwhelming sadness over the passing of one of the funniest actors from my childhood.

Leslie Nielsen, the Canadian comedian best known for his role as Lt. Frank Drebin in the Naked Gun movies, passed away on November 28 at the age of 84 over complications of pneumonia. He's a guy who literally delivered hilarious performances with his signature blend of humor, usually depicted in films that saw the characters he played getting themselves into embarrassing situations, whether it be unintentionally or due to stupidity. It's that brand of wacky comedy that endeared me to Leslie's performances, and movies like the Naked Gun series, Spy Hard, Airplane!, and Dracula: Dead and Loving It. Heck, he even took on the role of the near-sighted eccentric character Mr. Magoo in the live action film adaptation. Recently, he starred in some Scary Movie sequels and A Superhero Movie, and he was even supposed to do another Naked Gun. Unfortunately, we'll never know how that turned out. Even so, as a tribute and to remember the guy, I found this video over at You Tube that looks at the funny and peak moments of some of his best comedic roles. Check it out.

Rest In Peace and thanks for the laughs Leslie, you will be surely missed.

The Dark Knight Rises Update: Christian Bale gets interviewed on his thoughts

Earlier this week, Christian Bale was interviewed by several media sources on his thoughts and expectations on the next Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises. The man who plays both Bruce Wayne and Batman was asked a lot of questions regarding the new Bat-sequel, and this video interview from E! Online shows what's on the mind of the English actor as he promotes his latest flick "The Fighter" and gears up to don the Cape and Cowl once more. Check it out.

As expected, even the main actor himself still doesn't have a clue as to what exactly the nature of Christopher Nolan's next bat movie will be. Only time will tell for sure! For more videos and info, check out Batman News.com!

The Dark Knight Rises will premiere still on July 20, 2012!

An Alternate Inception Poster Revealed...

Many people loved Christopher Nolan's Inception, and I happen to be among the numbers. That film has done wonders for the film industry, as well as reigniting people's curiosity as to how the dreamscape works. With its home video release fast approaching, it's only natural that fans get a taste of "behind-the-scenes" material related to the movie, and here's one released by SnapTag and shown over at Slash Film and NolanFans - an alternate and unused Inception poster!

Pretty slick, eh? The final versions are still great, but this one would have also been ok had it been used. Dig the tagline too.

Inception comes home to dreamers on December!

Mark Wahlberg is Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie!

Seems like gamers looking forward to the Uncharted film adaptation finally have their lead... and it's an actor who's been in an action movie and videogame role before.

According to a post in Screen Rant, Mark Wahlberg has landed the coveted role of playing protagonist Nathan "Nate" Drake in the Uncharted movie based on the first game - Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (which I coincidentally got earlier this week as part of my old game collection package!). The film, based on the Playstation 3 video game series of the same name, depicts the character as a modern day treasure hunter in an action adventure/ third person shooter of a game that has death-defying stunts and thrills similar to an Indiana Jones or Die Hard flick. In fact, Nate Drake's character appearance is modeled after Jackass star Johnny Knoxville, so you can see where all stuntman looking resemblance comes from.

With the news of Mark Wahlberg being cast in the role of Nate, I don't know what to feel at this point. I totally respect the actor, and he's a fine one at that, but I just don't see the Nathan Drake persona resonate from him. Heck, Marky Mark played Max Payne in the 2008 film adaptation of the video game of the same name, and that didn't really meet expectations of the fans at all. Let's hope that the star of such films as The Departed and Shooter will be able to pull this role off. The film, based on the first game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, will be helmed by director David O. Russell, with Joe Pesci ad Robert De Niro also slated to star alongside Mr. Wahlberg. No new details have risen so far, but for more info on this update, check out the source article at Screen Rant.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is slated for a 2012 release.

First Look at Apollo 18 Poster...

Movie news site Slash Film has posted an eerie and creepy image in the form of the official "Apollo 18" poster. The film, presented by The Weinstein Company, is a sci-fi horror found footage flick in which a group of astronauts on a secret expedition to the moon encounter an alien life form... and nothing good comes out of it. Similar to The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield, the movie will be told "camcorder style", so the viewer will experience all the horror through the eyes of the lens only. Directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego, the film is slated for a March 4 release next year. Check out the source post at Slash Film for more details.

Sherlock Holmes 2 Update: First Official Pic is up!

Slash Film has just posted what appears to be the first official picture from Sherlock Holmes 2! The sequel to 2009's Christmas adventure that is once again directed by Guy Ritchie will have actors Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law reprising their roles as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson respectively. Noomi Rapace will be joining the cast as a French gypsy, while Jared Harris will be taking on the role of Holmes' nemesis, Professor Moriarty. Stephen Fry on the other hand takes the big brother role as Holmes' older brother, Mycroft, and Rachel McAdams may reprise her role of Irene Adler, Sherlock's love interest in the last film, though that's still subject to change. At this point, production of the sequel is still rolling, and more updates will still be on the way before the film's impending release on December next year. For more info, check out the source post at Slash Film!

Sherlock Holmes 2 will crack the case in cinemas December 16, 2011!

The Dark Knight Rises Update: Christian Bale says it will be his last film as Batman

This is an unsurprising reaction from the man who defined the role these past few years.

In an interview conducted with Total Film, English performer and Batman actor Christian Bale says that "The Dark Knight Rises" will be the last film in which he will play Bruce Wayne and don the cape and cowl, unless director Christopher Nolan says otherwise. This is reminiscent of the commitment and promise Tobey Maguire made about his role in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films, in which the young actor promised he wouldn't don the webs again unless the director was involved. In that light, I guess we'll be seeing Bale suit up and fight crime for the last time as Batman unless something causes Nolan to extend his Batfilms forward outside of his promised "Trilogy". For more on the scoop plus the interview itself, visit Slash Film and Total Film!

The Dark Knight Rises will be released on July 20, 2012.

Just wanted to share this most unexpected greeting card from a dear friend (Thanks Sammi!:D). It's another unique day of my own to celebrate this year, and I don't know what's on the menu... but let the day commence!XD

The Dark Knight Rises Update: Movie's script based on "Prey"?

Rumors have been buzzing around concerning Christopher Nolan's next Batman film "The Dark Knight Rises". There have been reports that actor Tom Hardy, who worked with Nolan in Inception, was cast as the villainous Dr. Hugo Strange, something that's still unconfirmed at this point, but new info from website Scriptflags may add more fuel to the rumor mill.

Apparently, Scriptflags has gotten word from a publicist involved with the new batflick that the next installment will be based on "Prey", a classic and well known storyline from the old Batman comic book series "Legends of the Dark Knight". In that story, which occurs in the Year One timeframe, Dr. Hugo Strange hypnotizes a cop named Sgt. Max Cort, who has a distinct hatred for vigilantes, into becoming one himself called Night Scourge, in order to get Batman's attention. He also convinces the mayor to put together a task force with Commissioner Gordon leading to hunt the Dark Knight. As if that weren't enough headaches already, Strange also discovers Batman's secret identity of Bruce Wayne, and proceeds to torment him with psychological attacks on his mind.

All in all, Prey is one of the more interesting storylines that could be adapted into the new Nolan flick, but right now it's still on the speculation radar. In fact, Tom Hardy would be better suited to play Sgt. Max Cort/ Night Scourge if the movie takes reigns from the storyline. Still, we'll just have to wait and see how things go and when official word from the director and Warner Bros. turns up. In fact, according to Sir Michael Caine in a post over at Slash Film, shooting is to begin on May next year, so we'll probably find out more concrete details soon enough.

The Dark Knight Rises will be released on July 20, 2012.

Comic Book Review: Batman: The Return #1

It's a great week for Bat fans, and I say this without any exaggeration in mind. A new beginning has dawned over the saga of The Dark Knight, and it involves escalating his war against crime by taking it to a new level. As witnessed at the end of Batman and Robin #16, Batman will take his fight worldwide, and he's going to expand his reach by recruiting some of the best and brightest to become Batmen of their respective countries.

If that concept doesn't sound enticing enough, then blame writer Grant Morrison for it. He's the brains behind the Caped Crusader's adventures ever since he introduced his biological son, Damian Wayne, into mainstream DC continuity, and so far that idea has been embraced and accepted by fans worldwide. As I've said many times before, if there's one thing to be said about the Scotsman, it's his tenacity to make the unexpected WORK and inevitably PAYOFF by the end, and he's pretty much accomplished what he set forth to do when he wrangled Bruce Wayne through time and brought him back to the present day. Now that the original Dark Knight is back, the focus can now shift to his spotlight, which now has room for more than his lone shadow apparently.

Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Update: Collector's Edition And 2 DLC Characters Revealed!

After the reveal of She-Hulk and Zero, it was only a matter of time til Capcom revealed more stuff for MvC3. Sure enough, via a post over at Kotaku, Gamestop has unveiled the Collector's Edition package of next year's smash hit brawler, Marvel Vs Capcom 3: Fate Of Two Worlds!

As you can see, the Package will include A Steelbook with exclusive art, Two Downloadable Characters, an exclusive comic and art book, and a 1 month subscription to Marvel Digital Comics! Now if that package doesn't sound good and enticing for the die hard MvC fan, I don't know what will! As for the two DLC exclusive characters... they are none other than MvC fighting veterans Shuma-Gorath and Jill Valentine! Shuma, of course, hails from the Marvel side and is the giant purple eye with purple tentacles... famous for being an adversary of Dr. Strange! As for Capcom's Jill, no introductions are necessary if you played the Resident Evil series! She's the "Master of Unlocking" and heroine of RE1 and RE3, so that alone counts for why she shouldn't be dismissed as "Jill Sandwich" easily, hehe! For more details, check out the source post at Kotaku!

Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Update: Check out the new Smash Hit poster!

It's been a while since Marvel and Capcom have released any new updates related to next year's crossover brawler Marvel Vs Capcom 3: Fate Of Two Worlds, but I believe the silence will be broken soon enough... for they have just unleashed a new poster that looks as sweet and as drooling as can be!

As posted in Event Hubs, here's the new "Smash Hit" GameStop poster of MvC3, and it's downright amazing! Many of the central characters already revealed and confirmed on the roster are shown here, and to say it doesn't look epic does it a world of injustice. After all, this one sheet is done by none other than Marvel's very own Adi Granov, whose artistic works on the Iron Man and X-men books should be familiar to longtime fans and readers of The House of Ideas! Good show Adi, and I can't wait for more announcements and characters yet to be revealed for the game!

Tomb Raider Reboot Announcement Coming Soon?

Gaming website 1up.com has an article up featuring an image taken from the latest issue of Game Informer, in which the magazine's next issue teases a reveal that simply proclaims "A Survivor Is Born". Several rumors have already spread that a Tomb Raider reboot was in the works, and this spread seemingly foreshadows that reveal, which would feature a younger and less experienced Lara Croft, the main heroine of the series. Nothing else to go with other than this image, so more stay tuned for more updates, and check out more info from the source article at 1up.com!

Green Lantern Update: First Trailer Attached to Harry Potter!

Next week, the first part of the final adventure of "The Boy Who Lived" will be told in cinemas, as "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1" will be unveiled for the world to see.

However, that's not the reason why I want to watch the movie.

Apparently, Warner Bros. will be attaching the first long awaited TRAILER of the live action movie adaptation of "Green Lantern" along with the film! The film, starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, will be out next year still, so this is the moment when we'll be able to see the ring charge up and shine for the first time as a tease in theaters! Now that is news! It gives me a good reason why I should see Mr. Potter, personally not being a fan of the franchise. Anyway, Slash Film has the scoop, and Entertainment Tonight will be premiering said trailer this Tuesday as well. For a preview on that, check out the sneak peek here!

The Dark Knight Rises Update: Christopher Nolan looking for two female leads

After learning from Christopher Nolan himself that the title of the next Batman film will be "The Dark Knight Rises", Enewsi now reports that the British director who gave us "The Dark Knight" and "Inception" is now looking for two female leads to star in his next Bat film. While no specific names have been given as to who these ladies are and who will play them, what's sure is that one female lead will play Bruce Wayne's new love interest, while the other is an unnamed villain.

Hopefully it'll be Selina Kyle/ Catwoman and/ or Ra's Al Ghul's daughter, Talia, but no confirmation's been given yet. However, movie news site Deadline reports that candidates have already been rumored to be chose, and they are actresses Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, and Keira Knightley. Speculations are still up in the air at this point, but let it be known that Blake Lively and Natalie Portman are already due to star in superhero movies of their own next year, with the former appearing as Hal Jordan's love interest Carol Ferris in Green Lantern, and the Ms. Portman playing Jane Foster in Marvel's live action movie adaptation of Thor. For more on the scoop, visit the source articles at Enewsi and Deadline!

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled for a July 20, 2012 release!

Death Of Spider-Man?!

First, he loses his uncle...

Then, he loses his marriage...

Now, he's going to die?!

I don't know what Marvel is planning for our friendly neighborhood webslinger, but after the events of Civil War, Brand New Day, and the upcoming Big Time, it seems like Peter Parker's alter ego, the Amazing Spider-Man, will face death itself. Revealed in comic blogsite Newsarama, Marvel Comics' upcoming December issue of Previews reveals a somber image in the form of "The Death of Spider-Man", which only suggests that the webslinger's going to meet his doom. However, with a title like this, I'm not even getting anxious or excited. They've already killed and resurrected so many comic book characters before (see Superman and Cap), it's become routine, and a vicious cycle of superheroes playing "russian roulette" and buying the big one to get fans talking. Regardless, I'll keep tabs on this story as it develops. Newsarama's got the scoop on this, so check out the source article for more info and updates.

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D director talks!

After hearing the news that a new Silent Hill is officially underway and based on the third video game installment's plot, I couldn't be more hopeful to watch another big screen adaptation featuring that haunted little town. Now, the film's new director has opened up and served up his initial reactions a week after the big announcement was made.

Via his own official blog, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D writer and director Michael J. Bassett expresses his own excitement and enthusiasm at being picked to make the next film, citing that he's a fan of the games and enjoyed the last film helmed by Christoph Gans. He also says that he aims to bring a little more darkness and fear into the mix, but try to retain the same feel as the games and hire as much of the previous film's core-creative team as he can. As he puts it off quite well "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". For more on the scoop, visit ComingSoon.net and Michael's official blog!

Officially Confirmed: The Walking Dead gets a Second Season!

Like many people who have started shuffling to their television sets, I've been thoroughly pleased with AMC's TV series adaptation of Robert Kirkman's "The Walking Dead". With two episodes already shown and quite the positive feedback the show has gotten, it's no surprise that fans have been inkling for a second season follow up after the initial one ends with episode 6 come December 6. Well, our prayers have been answered, and the dead will rise again with 13 new episodes scheduled for the renewed season!

Prepare for the coming of Batman Live!

I've just learned a stunning and remarkable announcement from a post over at Superherohype! For the first time ever in its history of publishing and presenting beloved comic book characters, DC Comics, together with Warner Bros., are paving the way for a world arena tour live show featuring none other than the Dark Knight himself, Batman! Yes, Batman Live is coming, and it sounds pretty epic and awesome!

Kung Fu Panda 2 Teaser Trailer Is Online!

I loved 2008's Kung Fu Panda. It was one of the most hilarious 3D animated films I've ever seen, thanks in part to the excellent voice casting and talents led by the tenacious one Jack Black, who voices the main fat panda hero Po! Of course, the film grossed out well in the box office, and a sequel is making its way to theaters May next year. If you're anxious to see a teaser of it, well look no further! As posted in movie news site Slash Film, DreamWorks Animation and Paramount Pictures have released the first teaser trailer of the next film - Kung Fu panda 2: The Kaboom of Doom!

Star Trek 2 Update: First teaser pic?

J.J Abram's 2009 Star Trek was a masterly woven reboot, and a sequel is definitely in the works for a 2012 release. Other than news on the cast returning and little script details being leaked, not much has been shown about the next film... until now that is.

Via Collider and a post on i09, the pic you see above is the Starship Enterprise herself with a "Summer 2012" caption below the Star Trek title, as tweeted by Montgomery Scott actor Simon Pegg via his Twitter! Is this the first pic of the Trek sequel, or something totally different? For more, check Collider and io9!

Spider-Man Reboot Update: No Mary Jane Watson, Hello Gwen Stacy!

Rumors are abound in several movie news sites that Peter Parker's main squeeze and once future wife Mary Jane Watson may not be in Marc Webb's Spider-Man reboot. Instead, website The Wrap reports that the webslinger's other love interest, Gwen Stacy, will be the only female lead focused on in the new movie. This is not new news, considering that there already was a rumor before that Ms. Watson won't be appearing, and actress Emma Stone was cast as Ms. Stacy, thereby confirming MJ's no show in the new flick and no romantic tensions for Peter to worry about.

Personally, I think it's great that Gwen will be the focus of Peter's affections this time, since the character was so underused in Spider-Man 3 and wasn't given the fair treatment the character deserves. She's just as important a love interest as Mary Jane was to Peter, and I think it will fit right well, especially with the reboot being set back in High School and reintroducing Parker (played by Andrew Garfield) back in his developmental years. It's still all rumors at this point, but for more on the story, check out the source article at Screen Rant!

The Spider-Man reboot will debut with a new web of intrigue on July 3, 2012!

Comic Book Review: Batman and Robin #16

I'll come into this review with a simple reaction to the issue itself -WOAH!

By all accounts, Grant Morrison has fashioned quite the reputation for himself as writer and plot master behind all things Batman these past few years. He's put Bruce Wayne's alter ego through the ringer, stacked him with insurmountable odds to face, and orchestrated a journey through time that brings him full circle with his origins and being. If that sounds like a bunch of confusing hokey-pokey, then I don't blame you, it's a long story to follow. However, the payoff has been sweet, and there have been drastic changes to the Bat universe that most fans have embraced and accepted over time. The book I'm reviewing here, Batman and Robin, is the primary title of said change "Batman: Reborn", which showcases the adventures of a new Dynamic Duo protecting Gotham, namely the pairing of Wayne's first ward Dick Grayson and his biological son Damian. The series has run for 16 issues so far, and with the final one written by Morrison in place this week, Grant has once again brought something unexpected to the table, through what many people have summed up as a "game changer". I promise not to mention any reveals or spoilers... that's what the internet is for if you're impatient, haha.

Silent Hill 3 will be made into "Silent Hill: Revelation".

Horror site Fangoria and video game blog site Kotaku have posted some interesting news for Silent Hill fans. The next movie adaptation based on the Konami survival horror series has finally been given the green light, and will be based on one of the better entries of the video game series, Silent Hill 3. After four years in development with slow news and updates, the sequel to 2006's Silent Hill will be titled "Silent Hill: Revelation", and will be produced by Lionsgate, Konami, and Davis Films. Michael J. Bassett, whose credentials include Solomon Kane and Deathwatch, will bewriting and directing the film, replacing Christophe Gans and Roger Avery on those roles respectively. The movie will also be apparently shot in 3D, to give viewers a choice between that and conventional theater viewing.

Silent Hill 3 Game Intro

Personally, this is exciting news for me as a Silent Hill fan. The third game had one of the best stories in the series to date. It was a follow up to the original Silent Hill, in which players too control of a teenage girl named Heather, who was eventually revealed to be the daughter of the first game's protagonist, Harry Mason. Here's the official synopsis from Fangoria:

"For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand," reads the official synopsis. "Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever."

Of course, the 2006 Silent Hill film has no relation to the sequel, apart from the haunted town te stories are set in. For more details, visit the source articles over at Fangoria and Kotaku.

Silent Hill: Revelations has no release date given yet. Check back from time to time for more updates as they come.

Resident Evil Damnation First Trailer!

G4TV and Attack of the Show have previewed the upcoming December Blu-Ray release of last Semptember's Resident Evil: Afterlife, and packaged together with that will be the first look at Capcom's next animated RE/ Bio Hazard flick - Resident Evil Damnation! It's already been mentioned that recurring series protagonist Leon S. Kennedy will return, but just what and who will he be facing? Check the trailer and find out!

G4TV Resident Evil: Damnation Preview Trailer

Like what you see so far? I do! However, Resident Evil: Damnation doesn't come out until 2012, so a long wait is still ahead of us!

One cool variant cover to Batman: The Dark Knight #1!

DC Comics has released some pretty neat variant covers to some of their upcoming books, and they're all featured over at their blog The Source. The one cover that caught my eye though, is the variant to the David Finch written and drawn first issue of "Batman: The Dark Knight", which is provided by artist Andy Clarke.

Impressive is the word I'd use for this cover, and it's one of the better covers I've seen with Bruce Wayne in his new Batman costume, running down to face crime and evil head on! For more variant covers of other DC titles plus the Black and White variant to this issue, check out The Source!

Captain America Update: High-Res photos and more plot details pop up!

Last week featured big news for Marvel fans eagerly awaiting next year's star spangled heroic movie Captain America: The First Avenger. Not only was the cover to the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly revealed featuring Chris Evans as Cap on the cover, but so were photos from the movie itself featuring more shots of Evans in his starring role, as well as his fellow cast members like Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull. As such, details were inevitably going to follow, and sure enough, movie blog site Screen Rant has the scoop on plot highlights from the movie. Of course, SPOILERS are going to be there, so I won't note down the specifics. Obviously, the movie will be set in World War II and will be an origin story... but there's a lot more to it as well that will simply leave fans excited for what's to come, especially with the build up to the forthcoming Avengers film in 2012. Also, the movie will undergo a slight title change when it gets relased internationally, omitting "Captain America" and going by "The First Avenger" instead. This is obviously to make audiences in non-US territories connect the movie with Avengers better, but personally, I think Captain America is the one true label that should stick.
