Marvel teaser: Superior Spider-Man Fired from The Avengers?!
Superior Spider-Man #1 is due in comic book shops and stores this week, and it ushers in the new era of a very different kind of Spider-Man, as presented by Dan Slott and artist Ryan Stegman. MAJOR SPOILERS of course follow after this paragraph on what exactly those changes are, which were finalized in the major epic final issue of the flagship Spidey series of Marvel that was The Amazing Spider-Man #700 last December 2012. Now that a new year begins, so does a new status quo for Spidey... Which apparently affects his status as an Avenger!
For those who don't know the score, Peter Parker "died" after his mind was exchanged and trapped in the fragile and dying body of his deadly archnemesis, Doctor Otto Octavius. While Doc Ock still inhabits the body of Spidey, he is no longer the same villain he was before, having experienced the raw emotions and memories Peter experienced throughout his life and gaining the sense of "Power and Responsibility" that is imbued within the core of Spider-Man. Now determined to be a "Better Hero than Peter ever was", Ock/ Parker has adopted a new and more menacing persona as "The Superior Spider-Man", which starts this week and leads into a new direction for the webslinger.
That "new direction" apparently has our "friendly neighborhood hero" getting Fired by his teammates The Avengers, and it looks like Marvel is teasing the action to come with the poster above, slating a reteaming of the ASM #700 creative team of Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos! What will happen to Ock/ Spider-Man that causes the split between him and Earth's Mightiest Heroes? We'll just have to find out come April.
